My birthday gift to my daughter, when she turned 16, was her first bike with the proviso that she pass the Basic Riding Course of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) first. I strongly encourage all parents to make participation in the MSF course part of their youngsters' motorcycle learning experience. Thank you for being a great role model for my daughter too, Amanda.

I rode that road south of Puertecitos a year ago (07 KLR 650) A hurricane had washed out much of the new road so it was a mess. Nice lady at the store in Puertecitos. Somehow I missed Coco's. It was cold, windy and getting dark. I'll be back next Spring.

Awesome movie thanks for sharing! In 99, I drove a truck solo all the way down Baja, and then took the ferry over to the mainland. I spent several weeks in Baja, and really enjoyed it. I ended up meeting my wife in Mazatlan. Then 19 years later, December of 2018, I flew my grandson from Mazatlan to Tijuana, and we road 2 up down to La Paz. Then took the ferry to Mazatlan. We stopped in San Felipe, chatted with Coco, and enjoyed San Ignacio. We mostly took paved roads when we could, but it was a great experience for both of us. I hope your journey can motivate others to get out of their comfort zone and go travel. I loved my solo trip, but if you can find someone to share the journey with, it's even better.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I agree with you thats it more enjoyable with another person or even a few, but solo travel has its own rewards that are untouchable - especially the way it pushes your boundaries and teaches you new things you wouldn't learn with other people.

This is special .... I watch a lot of motorcyle video bloggers but there is something about Sterling, and the soul of this solo documentary. I loved it - and the story that arose from the natives and the Ultramarathon was fantastic. Just goes to show you don't need a fully kitted, late edition adventure bike and drones and various Go Pros to convey an adventure :) Well done!

Skillfully crafted video. I get nervous when you get so far from your camera on the tripod. I ride Northwest Thailand, mostly alone. You've given me a bit of courage to get further from my cameras. Although I encounter Thai, Lanna, Burmese and Chinese languages among the hill tribes, I'm a words and phrases guy and advanced pantomime skills have developed. It seemed your action cam added a hint of sepia to some of the scenes, don't know if it was the camera or something you did in post. There's a sign in the window of a motorcycle shop in Chiang Mai, Thailand that becomes a bar after working hours. "FOUR WHEELS MOVE THE BODY,..TWO WHEELS MOVE THE SOUL. THE MOUNTAINS ARE CALLING."

RAZOR'S EDGE- Thailand I was a little nervous about that too. I often concealed it in the bushes off the side of the road in case someone drove by. I was more nervous about potential cartel wondering what I was filming and what their reaction would be but I didn’t encounter them and have to explain anything.

At 22:58 , I believe , is when you should have partially aired your tires down which is equivalent to installing an wider tire increasing tire footprint and traction which decreases the chance of the tires from sliding out from under you and just maybe partially deflating tires decreases the chance of slicing a tire on sharp and jagged rocks , just maybe . Ofcourse I'm not saying to deflate all the air from the tires but a percentage ( guestimation of deflating down 10-25 percent ) . Keep in mind an percentage of tire deflation also is a percentage in added tire width so an 10% deflation is equivalent to an 10% wider tire . The other benefit of an wider tire from deflation is there is only added rolling resistance when the tire is deflated ( while tire is deflated )than if you were to actually put on a bigger tire you would have an added rolling wheel resistance from increased traction same as deflated tire , being that bigger tire is fully inflated and an increased take-off resistance from an heavier wheel , heavier cause there is more rubber in the bigger tire , requiring more power from the engine burning more fuel for as long as the wheel is installed adding more of a load to your driveline .So Deflating tires or in stalling bigger tires increases rolling resistance ( traction ) thus adding more of a load to the driveline thus consumption of more fuel by the engine . So installing an bigger tire has the same advantages and one extra disadvantage , that is requiring more power from the engine for turning the wheels , I'm calling this take-off resistance , due to tire being heavier . I also have an idea for an air hose that you connect in place of one of your spark plugs turning one of your cylinders into an air pump so the engine compression can be used to air tires back up but unfortunately only works on multi-cylinder engines and fuel injected ones . This item would take place of a 12v air pump . Let me know if y'all would be interested in something like that .

I put 3300 miles deep in Mexico on a Yamaha XT225 in 2009. I had the time of my life. Cross the border with full tank, and don’t stop till you a couple hundred miles away from the border. I had the time of my life. The people are great in Mexico. I was in little Mexican towns up in the mountains, to large cities. The food was the best! At 23:00 when he dumps it. That’s the reason you travel on a small motorcycle that your feet can touch the ground. After my XT225 I bought a KLR650. I’ve ended up in the same situation he was in here, with my wife on the back a couple of times. Had the same results too.

@Leon Wood small bikes have small fuel tanks (range anxiety), and are slow on hiways. perhaps putting bigger and bigger rocks underneath the bike, to avoid doing complete lift many times, perhaps stronger branch of tree as a leverage, perhaps cleaning that road a bit, if it's that crappy for short.....
