The Wildebeest Migration is one of the wonders of nature. This video views the migration not just for the excitement of the river crossings but takes a wider view of what surrounds the migration and some of the longer term challenges of its popularity.

Hi Vitale. Thanks for watching the video. In answer to your question the main reason they don’t change is that the crossing places are etched in their minds as part of the history of the annual migration. Even if they see danger the urge to cross is so strong that they will still cross if they they think there is new grass on the other side. They follow the rain and thus where the fresh grass can be found. There is no option about crossing the river in this way which may seem mad to us but they cannot override the innate desire to swim or walk or clamber across the rivers at well known places. There are of course no bridges for them.

I have to correct you on one small thing. Male Lions do not lead the pride, in fact they aren't even part of the pride. Males form coalitions who will mate with all the prides in their territory. It's common for a coalitions territory to overlap with around three pride territories.
