What a pleasant surprise, and one of those games that seems to be gaining in popularity as more people discover it. Definitely a keeper as i love a lot of what it does and any game with an hour a bit play time and that many decisions is a good time. Compared to the other tech tree game I covered recently, Anno 1800, it was very refreshing and fun. I've gone into more detail about my thoughts about the fundamental differences in how the games treat tech trees and why i find this take much more engaging on patreon.

Interesting idea. I just use a set of 6 pre-packed graphics Steph did up at the start of the season. It's possible we could implement that for next season

@@tigriscallidus4477I would fully endorse use of the "Vince McMahon 5 panel demon eyes" meme for the complexity rating. It would really take the intro to the next level.

Shows anniversary is Jan 30. So new seasons with new graphics always start then. And lol and the VKM eyes thing. Especially now with all the Vince news of late. dodgy old geezer

Currently sitting at number 3 for me. I love exploring tech trees and this just hits all the right notes. The mix between the importance of the two boards is just right and it's not often you can say that about a game with such disparate play areas.

Agreed, each time i've played i felt i've paid too much attention to one over the other to my detriment

This is one of my favorites. I rushed to buy it after the shut up and sit down review and we've played it a minimum of once a month since but often weekly

So helpful, in so many ways, to so many people, in such a compact package: Great! Thanks.

Highly recommend people go on to BGA to try out their very good implementation there. A great way to play the game as it also automates all the various components which cuts down maybe an hour of playtime. Of course in person is more fun though.

Great review. I think the mechanics for the game are there but it needs some visual makeover to help bring home the theme that you are exploring, settling and developing tech. Plays a bit too much like a spreadsheet game for me and needs some more variability which is why I would give it a B+ grade. Thx for the review...love the 3 min approach

It’s a lovely lovely gem both complex but beginners can thrive

I've played this game numerous times (on BGA) and always enjoyed it. My only complaint is that the main board is a bit abstract - it feels more like you're just "doing stuff" rather than "exploring the universe", but that's a very minor quibble for a fun game.
@3MBG2 жыл бұрын
Mine too, as i mention. Still, i have leaving earth and space corp for more hands on space exploration.

I honestly can't tell if I would like or hate this game. I like the idea of lots of techs and choosing between them. Seems awfully fiddly though.

The first time we planned to play Beyond the sun, I was expecting to like it. I was not a disappointment, I really enjoy it. The graphics are a problem for a lot of people, and I admit it: they could be better. If Rio Grande wanted, they could have done some extra work for it (at least on the cards, I mind even less the player boards). After a bit too many plays on BGA, it cooled down for me a bit, probably because I had some games I got lost from waiting for my turn. But I still like it a lot that I want to play BtS once again!
@3MBG2 жыл бұрын
Ah, that sounds like a BGA problem more than the game though right

Absolutely lovely game. I love the idea of a tech tree and this game just nailed it. My minor complaints are the production (which is just okay) and I prefer the game to take a tad longer, but that's just personal preference.

Both fair. It looks like a well made prototype to me, which is fine, but a bit like sideral confluence, it could benefit from a new paint job.

I won this game a few months ago and will play it soon. I'm just loving Teotihuacan too much at the moment. I just re watched your civ new dawn video and am really tempted but will chill for a few months, maybe next year as I have Eclipse. What's your thoughts on mosiac? Ps. Keep up the work champ!! Love your honesty, its refreshing 👍

This is genuinely the first time i've heard of that game. So having a quick look at its BGG page. I'd give it a go once at least. I'm guessing this was a kickstarter judging from the serious levels of bling on it. The designer has a good track record of making civ games too which is reassuring as they are a very complex field. But asides from those superficial observations not much to say

The only thing that's bothered me about this game is the randomness of the techcards you flip - sometimes the one off bonus is huge, sometimes it's something you cannot even use - which can easily win or lose you the game.

This game CALLS to me as a lover of space theme and as a massive nerd. However, I know it would rarely be played by my gaming circle. I will have to settle for more iterations of Zombicide (insert theme here), I guess. 😑

I hate every area control game except this one
@3MBG2 жыл бұрын
Ha, fair. Its a very different take on area control.
@tinstargames2 жыл бұрын
I think it’s the fact that it resets so often and the winner loses troops while the loser doesn’t. So much area control doesn’t do that
@3MBG2 жыл бұрын
I think you need to stay tuned into me, because my 2nd game is an area control game and, well, that's the focal point of it. Control is spent to get points, and is removed. A player just placing bits and not scoring will run out of bits in 30% of the way into the game.
@tinstargames2 жыл бұрын
@@3MBG nice. Small World also has something like this where there’s implicit fading out, but slowly. But a lot of Eric lang games don’t for example, it’s more like everyone who fights for a space loses troops. BTS you can wait for them to spend then swoop in afterwards.
@3MBG2 жыл бұрын
The premise of the game is crime based. So building up influence is all about "casing jobs"
