Beyond Torture documents the persecution of Romanians under the communist regime. You'll hear firsthand stories of the persecution of Romanians under Stalinist communism. Beyond Torture: The Gulag of Pitesti, Romania documents the persecution of Romanians under the communist regime. Electrical shock, hallucinogenic drugs, near starvation and fatal beatings were daily rituals in the prison of Pitesti, Romania. But this sadistic story goes beyond torture: this was an attempt to totally destroy a people's culture and faith. In 1949, Stalinist Soviets began a systematic sweep of Romanian college campuses. Their purpose was to imprison and transform young Romanians into a communistic way of thinking. One prisoner describes this re-education as the most vile tortures imaginable. Orthodox priest Father George Calciu says, They tried to destroy our souls. But he and others survived this gulag, lived to tell their stories and even forgave their captors. In this documentary, you'll meet three survivors from the prison of Pitesti and see shocking paintings that capture the essence of the extreme torture. This DVD also includes an in-depth one-hour interview with Father Roman Braga: prison survivor and spiritual leader.
Director: Alan Hartwick

I am surprised the documentary appeared here in full length but also I am super grateful to the wonderful Human Alan Hartwick who involved me in this memorable project. I was taking care of a small part of it, the photography; it was long time ago when I was at the beginning of my career as a photographer; Alan encouraged me than to follow my path and I am forever grateful to him. The whole story is amazing and I felt such a mix of feelings and u will do too after u will watch it! We all should be grateful to such people who endured so much and yet they were able to forgive; their faith and their own existence on this earth after such experiences made them to be above all. So much to learn from our history, from our great people.

The darkness of communism was engulfed by the light of these three men and many other men and women. I am speechless with admiration, not many people could forgive. When Father Roman said he had forgiven I was utterly ashamed of myself as I keep on holding on to events far in the past. Perhaps forgiveness releases the soul's darker energy which has temporarily dampened it. This video should be mandatory viewing for all of us.

If you don’t know why communism happened, check out “200 years together” by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. Communism was and still is a kosher operation; they tortured and killed more than 60 million, and use their media dominance to remind you every moment of the day about their 6. They are going to do the same to the whole world next-they’re going to get away with it, because no one believes you when you tell them. Prepare yourself for worse treatment than these people endured. God bless you.

I learned of this event in a neuroscience class. My professor stated his opinion on the matter, and it has always stuck with me to this day. He stated he believed this was man's attempt to see if they could break a person's soul and physically take it from him.

They, the commies, didn't advertise it, you can be sure. They didn't say: „Look, when we'll grab the Power, that's what will happen to all of our opponents, beware!”. First, they stole general elections, just like they did in USA. By other means, of couse, back in 1945 there were not mail voting, electronic counting machines or internet. As Stalin said, it doesn't matter who's voting, all that matter is who's counting Then they distroy all: justice, political parties, liberties, all. Then they arrested, tortured, imprisoned and killed as much people as they could! That's the way they all do it! Damn bastards! As Stalin said,it doesn't matter who's voting, all that matter is who's counting!

This is so difficult to fathom the darkness perpetrated by one human to another. It's difficult to watch. So why continue? So that exposure of this brutality can never take place again. In our society, we must be alert to crisis like this happening anywhere in the world today. May these poor souls who suffered through this find strength and peace. Thank you for showing the world.

/ Here the propaganda purpose of the youtube video maker is wrong. Here the Nazis were wrong and the Soviet decisions were right, for a sentence to Nazi soldiers who took part in extensive atrocities. Sentence by Soviets: 10 years of hard labor. 10 years of hard labor. Many who committed extensive atrocities were sent to a gulag or two. All Nazi prisoners of war given 10 years sentences for atrocities committed were to be released no later than 1955. This decision was right. Anyone from the Nazi military forces who killed more than 500 civilian villagers or 100 Soviet prisoners of war people were not given life term jail terms and not to be hanged. They were to be given a sentence of 10 years of hard labor. To be released in 1954 or 1955. Here, some were happy about it. Others said the Nazis who participated in massacres of civilian villagers in Belarus and Ukraine and Russia would rather die than work as a hard laborer foe 10 years till 1955. : They were give 10 years of hard labor. As per Stalin's orders all Nazi soldiers who had killed more than 100 civilians or massacred more than 100 Soviet poisoners of war will be given 10 years of hard labor sentence. To understand what happened in gulars for some prisoners of war in who committed atrocities during ww2, one has to understand the American prison system of the US. A Nazi after completing one year of hard year may have 9 years to re released. A serial killer in jail in the USA, America will suddenly confess to fellow convicts that he killed seven more men as a serial killer. Similarly, a Nazi has just completed one year of hard labor out of a 10 year sentence. Such a Nazi in a gulag for har labor work who committed atrocities may suddenly say something to the effect that he massacred 100 more villagers in a village 100 miles from Brest, Belarus. Outcome of this confession: The Nazi who committed is given more hard labor tasks as he had confessed to additional atrocities that he had additionally killed 100 villagers in Belarus. Nothing wrong in that. Soviet guard says to a Nazi prisoner: "Mr. OsterMann, your papers say you killed 250 Soviet prisoners of war. You confessed to a fellow prisoner of killing 100 additional villagers near Brest, Belarus. Today onwards you will begiven even more work to do daily. You will still be released in 1954." Nothing wrong with that. A few Mr. Jones or average Mrs. Jones in the year 1950 living in the western hemisphere if asked may say "All Nazi soldiers who committed excessive atrocities in wars should be released from had labor gulags immediately or be given American citizenship."

What the heck are you rambling on about? Your lengthy harangue is just a bunch of irrelevant babble. These men were not Nazis. Did you even watch the documentary? The gulags primary prisoner was the ordinary civilian (and the survivors here were Romanian intellectuals) and it could be for any reason at all or no reason at all that he was being imprisoned. Here, the claim was to re educate the prisoners, but it was a guise for experimental brainwashing torture. The communist regime was by far the most maniacal and murderous the world has ever known.
