I have asked myself the question can the President wake up and take the nuclear football and just launch the missiles. After much thought I think this is what would happen. If I am wrong would like to know what would really happen. Once the General with the authority to give the orders to launch after looking at the threat board and seeing no threats of any kind would he after identifying that it is the President contact the Joint Chiefs, Sec of Defense or someone else to find out what was going on first before giving the order to launch?
