ShangChi was a good movie if just taken for the family drama. The problem with the MCU is that they finished what was built up since Phase1, culminating in Endgame. And Phase 4 is now that awkward moment where they still have to deal with the consequences of Endgame while just starting the build-up of a new arc culminating in another Endgame-level movie. People are expecting Endgame level productions, but are getting Thor the DarkWorld and IronMan3's in terms of quality (when what we actually want is another CA:WinterSoldier).

I think Animation rarely kills careers because the actors face is never in the actual movie so people will forget pretty quickly. Members of the general public rarely care about who is voicing who that's mostly for fandoms. Those are really bad movies and big disappointments both in front and behind the scenes. Although I have to say, on this list, it seems like the behind the scenes talents (the directors and screenwriters) are mainly responsible for the failures and not the actors. No one saids Margot Robbie was a bad actress from both films. It was the legendary directors who somehow lost the touch or misfire. Chris Hemsworth is giving his all as Thor, but Tika Watiti’s ego got the best of him…

I really think people are behaving a bit overly dramatic about Disney and Pixar’s animation studios.. the reality is both studios released INCREDIBLE movies within the last year (Encanto and Turning Red) and animation takes such a long time to produce that the upcoming projects, Elemental and Wish are too far in production to be drastically altered. Additionally I think it’s important to look back on Disneys history and see how it is mirrored in Pixar and even dreamworks! These studios go through major shifts from golden ages, to dark ages, to experimental ages.. I think Pixar is experimenting rn and to act like they need to “go back to the formula” misses the reason that Pixar was so successful in its first decade of life. They didn’t have a formula until Disney bought them.. and that’s when Pixar’s quality first dipped. So point being, yeah Lightyear and Strange World were definitely not good films but to behave as if they are “major blows” to the animation studios is a huge over exaggeration. (Also don’t forget both studios are expanding to accommodate Disney+ needs.. we have Win or Lose, Iwájú, Tiana, and a Moana series all set for release in the next 2 years!)

You're in rare form here, Grace. Love the energy. Great report.

I don't know. Maybe things are different in Hollywood now but the formula has always been that it takes a lot of bad movies to make a good one. It's the old saying that even the best hitters in baseball fail 70% of the time or whatever.

I didn't even go see Lightyear so I don't know if its a good movie or not. All I know is that it threw out the animated series they had so I didn't really care to watch it.

I could barely make it through half the movie before I quit and stopped watched. It wasn't good. Found better things to do with my time. Lol

Old Pixar didn't do messages, they did meaning. Stop virtue signaling and go for true meaning, wonder, and joy.

I feel like I'm one of the few that actually really enjoyed Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore! I thought it was close to being as good as the 1st film and far better than the 2nd!

I actually prefer “Secrets of Dumbledore” to “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”. However, I would not be surprised if most of the cast do not care if WB cancels it or not. Most of them have moved on to other projects. Only Ezra Miller and that actress who played Queenie’s sister have dead careers. While, David Yates is directing and producing a film with Emily Blunt and Chris Evans. It was obvious he was suffering from franchise fatigue.

Excellent video! I like this better than a worst movie list. This was a tough year for some people and biz. You're a gem Grace!! Thank you! Happy New year everyone!! 🙂🍾🥂

Did Don't Worry Darling really bomb tho? 86 million on a 35 million budget doesn't seem that bad.

Breakeven is probably close to $85M. I guess it depends on how much was spent on marketing.

@@mimicku5256 isn’t it a rule of thumb that marketing for studio films is usually around the same as the production budget? I read that somewhere a long time ago.
