@@jkb_games_music Just because a film uses mature subject matters for laughs, doesn't make it a family film, like you claimed it to be. The first Beetlejuice was definitely not made with the primary target group of children in mind. The animated nature of Corpse Bride makes the very dark themes of the film more digestable for younger folks, since it abstracts a lot of the graphic imagery as well. Beetlejuice is that kind of movie that really benefitted from a skewed rating system from the MPAA. Like when Drag me to Hell somehow got a pg-13 rating as well.

@treyous33954 ай бұрын
I find it interesting that you mentioned the new Beetlejuice movie. Seems to draw inspiration from gritty, adult-oriented 70s horror films. Who is this movie really for? I get the sense you believe it's aimed at kids. I would argue the core audience is actually the fans of the original 1988 film. Most of whom are now adults, many with kids of their own. Sure, the studio likely wants to attract new viewers. The heart of their fan base is still those who fell in love with the original, and they should be the priority. Also, it's fascinating how critics seem to believe that every film today needs to tackle real-world issues or push a particular narrative. Why can't we "just" enjoy a well-crafted, entertaining story without being preached to? For lots of us, movies are a chance to escape the challenges of the "real" world, even if only for a couple of hours. Not every film needs to carry a message; sometimes, pure entertainment is more than enough.

I got the impression from the first movie, Lydia's real mom was completely out of the picture. Possibly abandoning the family. Which would lead Lydia's step-mom becoming more of a mom, even if the two ghosts would also be like parents to her (though I'm not sure if they mention them missing in this movie *not done with video as I type this*) That said, I don't care about the actor, the idea of ignoring the father is a terrible idea. You don't ignore the character because of an actor. You going to ignore The Flash character now because of Ezra? I have to agree with the idea of ghosts not aging, but I feel fans would whine if they had recast them with age appropriate actors for those roles.

I know, age restrictions can vary from country to country, plus in some ways, they were more strict back then, but that's just food for thought about how dark maybe this one could've gone. Though, to be fair, I'm guessing it only got that high a rating, because beetlejuice drops an f-bomb

Of course I'm going to watch beetlejuice2, going to watch 1st right before hand. I've waited 36years

There is a mistake in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Maria SKŁODOWSKA Curie was born Polish not French.

Grace only wants to see strong independant women on the screen. Typical coastal elitist living in a bubble.

Girl, all classic Italian Horror movies are not Giallo. Giallo are specifically murder mystery/slasher/crime thriller-horror movies. If it's at all supernatural (including Malignant) then by definition it AIN'T Giallo.

THANK YOU! just because it’s drenched in a certain color doesn’t make it GiALlo - I’m so annoyed with that being thrown around everywhere.

But there are giallo films with supernatural aspects though...
@BruceWayne-wh4of4 ай бұрын
@@21stcenturyhiphop There are, and personally I would view Malignant as Giallo because the supernatural aspect is so miniscule and inconsequential to the story. But in general, if the supernatural aspect take centre stage in the narrative, it would not fall under giallo directly.

This reminds me of Rocky Horror Picture Show. It too is macabre with a main character, Dr. Frank-N-Furter, that has all the red flags for toxic relationships. That's interesting. But Rocky Horror is very much an R rated movie and not a franchise that could have a family audience. I like that the movie goes places Hollywood normally wouldn't. But I understand from a business perspective that this could hurt box office. Though I wonder if fans of macabre media will find those things troubling. I may actually go see this in theaters if I'm free on Friday. I know some elements struck a nerve for Grace, but honestly this review peaked my interest and now I gotta go see what's in this movie! I kind of hope it does push boundaries. To quote another Keaton character.. You wanna get nuts!? Come on! Let's get nuts... haha

JENNA AND WINONA WERE GREAT IN THE MOVIE!

I suppose the first film dealt with the topic of suicide in a pretty cavalier way that wasn’t always terribly self aware, so having that energy on another topic is at least on brand. And I guess with Burton and his leading ladies, he’s technically done that four times considering Lisa Marie.

Horrible review! That’s not politically correct….thats also not politically correct! Not everything has to be politically correct. Thats what makes great comedy. We can laugh at ourselves for a few hours. Must be exhausting living life through the lens you are looking through! Two thumbs down for this review!
