Horror has always been a super saturated genre and there are always horror films flopping every single year, but the thing with horror is that we ALWAYS have horror hits every single year unlike some other genres that fade away completely (westerns, romcoms, comedies, dramas etc) so I don't think Heretic underperforming is out of the ordinary Edit: Exorcist flopped in 2023, Men in 2022, Malignant in 2021 and so on

@ The domestic side is solid and with this performance on PVOD for months on end I believe if Universal plays their cards right they could get a real glow-up situation. I believe the secret sauce would be to bring Helen Hunt back while still possible. Have Jo Harding join forces with the new team and watch those numbers go up. Even the first Twister wasn’t super big overseas. If they can keep the budget reasonable and avoid bloat they really could get those domestic numbers to go up. I believe anyway.

Red One, a Christmas movie coming out 15 days into November. What happened to the 12 days of Christmas?
@terrymcginnis0113 күн бұрын
Christmas season comes and goes very fast. All of November is basically Christmas season at this point when it comes to marketing, advertising. That's why Christmas movies come out around November as well. For example: Spirited from Apple came out on 11/11/2022. The Polar Expressed released on 11/12 2004 Elf released in theaters on 11/07/2003. Home Alone released on 11/16/1990.

I think the issue with Heretic is that it focused on Hugh Grant in the poster and trailers, and most people would not expect someone famous for rom-coms to make a compelling villain. In comparison, Longlegs had fantastic marketing the purely focused on saying "This film is totally terrifying!", so much so that a lot of people probably didn't even realize Nicolas Cage was in it. Grant has the acting ability to pull off scary (see Robin Williams in One Minute Photo) but the trailer seemed weak to me, as a horror fan. I'll watch it on streaming eventually, but I made the effort to see Smile 2 and Terrifier 3 in theatres as I had confidence in them to deliver 'horror'.
