Grace, your review underscores my opinion, that it was the producer who caused “Gladiator” to be a great film. Everyone always forgets “Gladiator” was produced Amblin/Dreamworks (aka: Steven Spielberg). Meaning, the producers reigned in all of Ridley Scott’s worst impulses and streamlined the story. Something about the trailer for “Gladiator II” showcased Scott went for bombastic over substance, and the film lacked a compelling lead in Paul Mescal. Even without seeing this yet, I seriously cannot believe there are talks about filming a third installment. Which only proves that Hollywood continually fails to read the room.

If grace doesn't like a movie it means it's good

You haters will always show up to support Grace huh, thanks for the view ❤

Yeah like Grace said, in the first movie we're told that "There was once a dream that was Rome", and we get to see that through following Maximus, who embody that vision - A loving father, a loyal husband, a just leader. Which is yeah, romantic - but so was the dream the Emperor was talking about. It's idealism - it's classic storytelling of good prevailing over evil. The first movie is so smart about this, but now I'm starting to wonder if this was a intentional or just a fluke from Ridley Scott lmao. I'll never forget him for butchering my favourite movie's sequel like this😭

This movie should have never seen the light of day. As a huge Gladiator 1 fan, i will never ever watch this.

Bring on wicked! My theatre is basically sold out all through thanksgiving for premium screen grace! Gladiator is no where near as popular I think.

it was such a re do of the original.....kind of just ok.

Ah what a bummer! Disappointing to hear that it doesn’t even have the gravitas and “Hoo-ra” a film like this desperately needs. Even if the story fell apart, having that could have maybe helped save the film.

Usually when Grace doesn't like something, I do. So I'm still very excited! Great cast!

I usually have the opposite feelings from Grace abot the movie ,but on this rare ocasion I agree with her.The story is trying to be complecating but it really make no sence..and of course ,it's too modern fot that time period.

"The main reason you want to go see a movie on a big screen, is because you want to experience those big visuals and sound in the ARENA - and this just isn't much of a show" is so scathing💀

I had a feeling… I laughed at the first trailer, it was so over the top. I love Mescal. But Washington seemed to be playing a caricature of prior roles. Pre-bought tickets weeks ago so we shall see…
