The great thing about flechette is that it bypasses the armor perk, buckshot against armor has a .671 multiplier, so it's only doing 67.1% of it's damage, whereas flechette does 100% against armor. So, from the Hawk, buckshot against an armored target only does a max of 144.6 damage, where flechette does 154. Not a lot, but you also gain the benefit of slower damage dropoff and higher minimum damage. Buckshot eventually loses it's capability to one shot as range increases, very fast against armor, flechette will always maintain a high enough damage to one shot if all the darts hit. The Hawk is also the best shotgun to use with flechette, if only by a little, doing 4 more max damage than the 870, whereas the Hawk and 870 are only .4 damage apart on buckshot, with the 870 being ahead at 216 vs 215.6.

Yeah unlocking the dart ammo is a pain in the ass. But then, combined with full choke, you get a shotgun that is pretty deadly from 0-30m

On the topic of frag ammo: once, near the end of a game on some conquest map(something with railline or whatever) i was shooting in the air with my m1014 on which i used frag rounds because i had just unlocked them, we had a handfull of tickets to go and i noticed that if i were to shoot in the air the rounds still came down, so I kinda used it like artillery fire, and belive it or not, I actually got a kill by just shooting in the air at random

Yeah, it is a great rifle, but just in certain game modes like TDM or Domination, this is a rifle for an Aggressive Recon not for a distance shooter.

My favourite shotgun, I tend to run it with an hd-33, green laser sight, full choke and flechette darts, the extra potential at range is significant and I don't have any trouble dropping people in cqb, this set up also make hip fire far more reliable

I think I know how the shotgun hipfire works, after doing a lot of testing in the range. Every time you shoot without aiming, the game has to calculate 2 things about that shot. 1: How the pellets are going to spread and 2: Where the center-point of the whole spread is in relation to your dead-center-point on screen (So the dot on your coyote) The game treats shotgun shells just like regular bullets, except that it fires multiple "bullets" per shot", and regular bullets are subject to a random trajectory, within its cone of fire (Most ARs fire within .2 degrees CoF at their base spread AKA This is their ADS accuracy). I think that shotguns do this as well, and simply that their shots fire multiple projectiles. Try to think of the shotgun hipfire reticule NOT as the region in which all your pellets will land, but rather the region that the center-point of the shotgun spread can fall into. The center-point of the spread might be on the very edge of the hipfire reticule, but the extra pellets in the spread are fired in a random configuration AROUND THE CENTER POINT.

Ah, the good times...I actually remember getting banned from quite a few servers for using slugs on my Remington (only way I ever ran it). My friend and I (who got me into Battlefield) were in a Metro server once, came across the clan that owned the server and they were all running around with shotguns. We eventually said "screw this" and pulled out what we occasionally referred to as our angry guns (mine was the 870 with slugs, his was the SPAS-12 with slugs). We then proceeded to absolutely destroy them with a combination of slugs, .44 Magnum rounds, and a bit of C4 here and there (400% match). Then, a hundred or so tickets before the match ended, they banned us.

Frag rounds are GLORIOUS when using them as a passenger in the scout heli! One strategy my lil bro and I would use was I'd fly and run the indirect fire field upgrades which includes more ammo for your passengers, while he'd run the rpg and dbv12 with frags. I'd get 40 plus kills in a round of conquest easily and he'd get about 50 plus sooooo crazy

The circle reticule is not misleading; it represents the size of the pellet spread. Where that pellet spread lands is a completely different matter when you hip fire, just like every other weapon.

You underestimate frag rounds. Saiga with frag rounds is by far my best weapon. You just have try to stick to medium ranges and use the splash damage to your advantage to hit people peeking around corners before they can even see you. It's highly effective if you use it properly. Not to mention the hackusations are hilarious, people don't expect a shotgun that can kill at long ranges and around corners.

I personally prefer the DBV-12 for frag grounds. The Saiga 12K has almost identical stats to the DBV-12, so it's just a matter of preference on their use.

i play mostly hardcore, so i find flechettes to be more useful for clearing a hall or something than buckshot because it travels through more people. slugs and frag rounds are also useful in hardcore because of the lower health model.

I use the 870 mcs/ Hawk 12 g with full choke and slug ammo on operation metro all the time, slugs are great for sniping people downstairs in the metro and they are also great for close quaters

I like using slug rounds for guns like the Saiga or Hawk because it reminds me of the Battlefield 3 DMRs. The only problem is that for some reason, suppression was way too strong against them. I could get a kill from at least 100m with a Saiga if no one was shooting at me, but I couldn't hit someone across the street if they were shooting back.

There actually are a few pump-action shotguns with detachable box mags. But they are rare. Which is kinda weird because the benefits vastly outweigh the drawbacks. A Hawk with a drum mag would have been epic.

I always use slugs on my saiga 12g on smaller or closer maps. Locker, lancang dam, zavod, etc. Annoy people at range, destroy in close to mid range, use the fn57 as my backup

I haven't used this shotgun much but am going to start using it more. I do, however, use the frag rounds but only with a semi auto shotgun, like the Saiga. It's more of a troll thing to do but it can be extremely fun on a Lockers and Metro.

Master the cz805 I did recently and had a lot of fun doing it. The rifle is a beast at mid-long range due to mild recoil and the 700 rpm is good enough to do decent up close.

0:40-1:00 If you think it's bad hipfiring in battlefield try planetside 2. Shotguns is always 50/50 if you will actually hit, and it's horrible. You can do 4-5 blasts in cqb without dealing damage.
