My experience was excellent, the people were absolutely hospitable, the scenery was serene and pretty and I just fell in love with the culture and fascinating history of Mississippi. I’m 34 years old. I was born and raised in MS, and lived there until 2016 when I left for a my career. A couple of observations from this video. 1) This is not an accurate portrayal of MS. There are well educated, hard working people in MS. While people may look down on the state as poor and part of the south, what they miss is the genuine hospitality the people there have for one another. 2) While this video tries to show MS as the poorest state with nothing but racism and ignorance, they only interviewed white males. What about the other people from other walks of life?! As someone who has traveled the country and met people from various walks of life, I guarantee that you will find ignorant and racist people in each and every state. This video solidifies more that Bill Maher and his show is just a way to belittle people and doesn’t fully state all facts and perspectives.

Today I live in Rio de Janeiro and I see here in Brazil a lot more racism than in my time in Jackson city. I lived in Natchez, and I never once saw racism in-person (again, in my presence), but I sure as hell saw it in Cincinnati and Southeastern Indiana. The biggest racists I ever saw were Hoosiers.
