I’m on the hunt for a bigger tank. Having seen you fit that. Even me with my limited skills looks like I could do it. Thanks for taking the time to put these videos up. 🙏🏻🙏🏻.

@@kickbackgarage ya need one that will stick to your new tank.You should have thought ahead and glued some metal on the inside of the tank, lol

That looks like a decent tank, time will tell how durable it is but of course cars have been using plastic tanks for ages. My Oiltek tank has a fuel gauge which I find really useful on longer runs .

It's super important not to cross thread those bolts. If you do, the brass insert will spin in the tank and you can't get the bolt back out (without cutting it). I just had to remove one like that. :(

Great vid as usual Rob, that looks the "Nuts" not it's on, was thinking same as you on next production: 1 recess for one side Lor R. Can't work out the Fuel Tap Collar, if it's solid then why do they supply the Jubilee Clip ? 👍👍

If you didn’t want to drill holes for the bottom fittings u cud have fabricated a simple strap type metal bar which you fasten to the tank with countersunk screw then clamped it around the part you ended up drilling, if that makes sense lol. Think you’ve enough room

I just wanted to fit as pr instructions. This way, if something happens with the tank Im covered.

While I would love to have greater range as I do enjoy riding, I just can't see eliminating my toolbox. Getting forgetful in my old age, Im bound to leave something at home if its not kept full time on my Series 3

Isn’t there issues with the brass captive nuts pulling out of their housings?
@kickbackgarage6 ай бұрын
No. Spinning if you cross thread them.

Excellent video Rob, but the tank is not a good design, the design of the tank you have taken out is better can you see why? All that space taken up for 12ltr?? Really , have a series 2 Spanish which has a tank like the one you have taken out and it holds 12 with the tool box in. To much gap at the top to the frame, cut/outs way to big, just a copy of the previous one. (No improvement) and the pointy bit at the front will retain fuel so you will only use about 10, tried a Vietnam tank looked similar with that bit at the front to much slope at the back and pointy at the front causes fuel starvation. Referring to the point above, the old tank has a dip in it and all the fuel goes to the fuel tap, I have fitted a Oiltek, a lot better design and bigger tank and better fixing, but not perfect bottom of the tank is flat and the the fuel runs low it slops about causing fuel starvation with 2-3 litres to go, causing fuel starvation and a rise in temperature to the engine, the plastic tank needs left and right carb fitments and to cut out the poiny bit at the front that holds fuel, petrol tap and sensor really good idea, see how you go.
