My approach: Agar dono ka product 2 hai to kam se kam ek part ko to integer hona hi hoga. To agar main a wali fraction ko integer mannu to ((2020/a)-1) agar integer hai to 2020/a ko bhi integer hona hoga. Bas phir kya jo prime factors kare the 2020 ke put karke dekho aage se 1010 do not satisfy but 505 satisfies. Same type of problem done in class 11 in fom chapter

I did it but in a different way (2020-a/a)(2020-b/b)=2 i multiplied it and simplified it 2020^2-2020(a+b)-ab=0 we can see a good quadratic eqn in 2020 by solving the quad we get 2020 as 2020=a+b+-sqrt (a^2+b^2+6ab)/2 the sqrt term should be a perfect square and the sum should be divisible by 2 and by easily solving it we get a and b as 505 and 1212 respectively. thank u

Hey! I found out we are solving correctly and the values you get are one of the solutions of equation but not an appropriate answer of question because question is asking positive integer value but 2020/3 is decimal! That's why we can't do like this hope it helps u

Very fantastic solution sir ❤ i am from pakistan , sir if we break 2 on RHS into multiplication of two factors i.e 3*2/3 then compare each factor on LHS with 3 and 2/3 and solve simple linear equation to get solution more easily ❤❤❤❤

Sir ,here is another approach to this by the following steps , 1st - simplified the equation as, 2020^2=2020b+2020a+ab 2nd- Factorize it by simon's fav trick as- (a+2020)(b+2020)=2x2020^2 3rd- You can solve this as it's a standard diophantine equn,though lengthy due to many cases. 4th- You will get the answer,you can even verify by checking the answers in the equn 5th - My thoughts - l would prefer your method as it's short and much more beautiful. When I tried it myself I first did itwith my approach but I got stuck into the cases of solving the equn and I watched the solution and when I putted the answers back into my previous work the equation satisfied ,hence resulting that my previous work also correct though the calculations were not as to my liking. THANK YOU

Sir i got the answer correct. I took (2020-a) /a=k and (2020_b) /b=2/k Solving I got a= 2020/(k+1) and b=2020k/(k+2) By trial and error, if we put k=3 we get a= 505 and b=1212 because then only we get an integral value of a and b

I tried as a grade 10 student cbse I multiplied and got 2020^2 - 2020(a+b) + ab = 2 ab 2020 (2020 -a-b) = ab a + b = 2020 - ab/2020 Now a and b are intergers and hence a+b would be interger Hence ab/2020 must be a integer so minimum value of ab must be 2020 ab = 2020 Therefore , a+b = 2019 Now to find a and b solve the roots of x² - 2019x + 2020 Now a+b = 2020 - ab/2020 (proved above) Now ab can be 2020n , where n is any integer and hence will get a +b as integer . But n is less than 2020. Now check in which case both roots are +ve integers and make such sets of (a,b) tho finding such many roots is hectic and seem impossible 😂 How's it.

Dear Sir. My Solution::: Since a and b are integers so (2020-a)/a and (2020-b)/b are also integers... Assuming them X and Y respectively ,,, Product of two integers can only be two when ::::: CASE 1 ::: X is 2 and Y is 1 CASE 2 ::: X is -2 and Y is -1 (((Ignoring X = 1 or -1 and also ignoring Y = 2 or -2 ((( As we get both values correspondingly)))))) By doing this Sir I get {{{{ a = -2020 or infinite.... b = infinite or -2020.....}}}} Sir kindly talk about this solution is this right ???... i solved the equation and got 2020=ab/(2020-a-b) then i found factors of 2020 .... 4,5,101 then after thinking a bit i got a,b must be multiple of 101 to minimize the denominator and got denominator 101(20-a/101 -b/101) then i did hit and trial with 4,5 and some integer near of them and found 3 ..(20-5-(4*3))=3 which will cut the 3 of numerator and a= 5*101 b=12*101

I can't understand why both a and b can't be greater than 2020.

It's because the answer will be in negative... Example if a=2021 and b= 2022 (which is greater than 2020 right) then we have the equation as 2020-2021/2021 × 2020-2022/2022 , we have -1/2021×-2/2022 which is equal to 2/2021×2022 which is of course a negative number.... This is just an example take any no. Greater than 2020 u will always get a -ve number i hope u got it..... 👍
