I have a pressure cooker- prestige- which has been inuse for a couple of decades and is still in use. It builds pressure inside after closing the lid placing the weight on the lid to seal it. The instructions to use it say that as soon as the pressure pressure builds in the cooker it gives a whistle and the heat should be lowered. Now what should be the time given on the lowered heat to cook the chana. This concept of number of whistles is quite alien to me. How to convert your time to this cooker? Thank you

Firstly I would say, It will be possible if you replace it with the new one. But going to the technical part, if proper pressure develops inside the prestige, try it keeping for 15 - 20 min on med-low flame and fill a little more water.

Try thinking 5 minutes for one whistle, Eg bharat say 5 to 6 whistles, that converts in 25 to 30 minutes. See if this works for you❤

You don't so many steps - Try a slow cooker - the flavors are awesome! You can make the masala paste and add dry chole to soak in the cooked masala paste + water for deep flavors + slow cook for 18 hours in Instant Pot.
