BHF SUSTAINABILITY PARTNER 2023 - Charles Tyrwhitt

British Heart Foundation (BHF) celebrated its 6th annual Heart Hero Awards on Wednesday 6 December 2023 at Glaziers Hall in London.
The annual awards celebrate the incredible supporters who go above and beyond for BHF, including the exceptional contributions that companies and organisations have made to help raise valuable funds for lifesaving research.
The BHF Sustainability Partner award recognises companies that have used their profile and commercial drive to make a difference towards heart and circulatory disease, alongside achieving ethical and sustainability goals and targets, such as rescuing items from landfill or reducing emissions.
As part of their wider sustainability strategy, Charles Tyrwhitt’s partnership with BHF launched in August 2021 as a solution to find a home for preloved clothing.
The clothing company has an in-store donation scheme which encourages customers to give their preloved shirts - from any brand - to any Charles Tyrwhitt store in return for money off a new shirt as a thank you.
Charles Tyrwhitt sends the donated shirts to their warehouse where BHF collects them, equating to over 11,000 items average per month. BHF then sell these donations through their network of shops to raise funds for vital lifesaving research.
As of August 2023, the partnership has helped divert more than 26 tonnes of clothing items away from the waste stream and into BHF shops, saving an estimated 257,020kg of carbon emissions.
With a three-year goal to generate more than £1million of stock through the scheme, this target was surpassed by the end of 2023 after hitting an impressive £2million.
