Magnificent Mr. Jacomet! Your sentiment and passion was captivating! At times, I believe because I try to be gentle and kind to others, and focus on others, that they take my kindness for weakness. Then my wife tells me, it is for the very reason that I am kind and gentle and that I always put her first is the reason she fell in love with me. When we are going out on a date on an elegant occasion, I always ask her what color dress is she wearing. When I wear my suit, I attempt to wear a necktie that matches the color of her dress. When I do this she smiles and I sense her pride in me, because she knows that my heart’s desire is to compliment her and have her be the focus of attention.

Hugo I was hanging on every word of this. Honestly, such an interesting and thought provoking video. These perspectives and facts are important because the concept of being a gentlemen was really at the core of Western European culture, and helped to shape style, art, science, politics and society throughout Europe. This is especially true in British culture as well, where chivalry was still a concept that was propagated up to the First World War and arguably up to the Second. Unfortunately it is much less so now and has been commercialised rather than discussed for its virtues. This is why I am such a fan of the British style, because to me it always has seemed virtuous even moral, to dress and act quietly, discreetly but still with authority. Thanks again. Josh.

I'm so fortunate to stumble upon this channel. As a woman, I always admire the silhouette of a suit, and I enjoy wearing crisp white shirts (billowy ones, like the Romantic poets over fitted pants (cigarette pants?). In my mind, I always see an image in the styles of equestrian and aviator ('20s) style, but much pared down--softer but structured. And there will always be a scarf. The ensemble, like perfume, is a (pleasurable) must... a uniform so to speak. Thank you, Hugo, for generously sharing your wonderful insights.

Hugo, I give you ⭐⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ *Great video,* it's true a man can dress in a $10,000 outfit and bring the term _"Gentleman"_ to disrepute by his bad behaviour, on the other hand he may spend less then $100 and elevate the term _"Gentleman"_ by his good behaviour. If he is well mannered his reflection to other and what they see makes him either a gentleman or a rogue! I have to admit that when I first discovered you that I was highly intimidated by you because you appeared to me to be a living statue and the world that I came from or stood in at that time feared your light well ,it is Often the sickness that is within us that fears the medicine that we are about to swallow. Dear Hugo, I’m a professor of the history of international law, teaching this semester a course on the resolution of ethnic conflicts. I’ve recently used this video to demonstrate to my students the qualities which diplomatic negotiators would have to bring forth in order to succeed in their task of ameliorating conflict - these gentlemanly qualities you talk about: kindness, providing all parties the possibility of feeling at ease and comfortable with the negotiator, the negotiator’s ability to keep confidentiality, and protect the weaknesses of the parties - yet always celebrate their strengths and good sides. Thank you for your work. You might have perhaps not imagined - but your impact even reaches into our field of diplomacy in ethnic conflicts. And yes - dressing well as mediators and negotiators (albeit WITHOUT being judgmental about the dressing habits of others) also increases credibility - and respect !

Hugo Jacomet is so right, he puts together such high values for how men should be, I know a couple of men to be like this, but far too few ... the greatest of them died 2 years ago, Peter Sweeney, the greatest gentleman I ever knew and loved...

Yo, I love your attitude and talks on your channel. It's incredible how dudes are these days in regards to using the term "gentleman", use in a way to describe style more than attitude and personality. Keep it up man.

I love the camera angle you used. Instead of talking into the camera, you made it interview-esque. I didn't even notice this until I was 3 videos in -- I thought you were doing an actual interview! Love it, Hugo. I have subscribed.
