Well, this is what happens when there are no standards. Everything is "subjective." Who fault is that though? In this genre of music, anything goes. If you take a step back and look at the heavy metal genre, anything does not go. Doesn't matter whether it's independent or mainstream. If you take another step back and look at the country genre, you'll find that again, anything does not go. Ain't nobody in heavy metal worried about the "G.O.A.T." or who done fell off. Same applies to country. Lauryn Hill & Missy Elliot are rendered old has-beens, in hip-hop. Dolly Parton gets revered while she's sleeping, in country. She can make new music worry-free and get the support from a major label/distribution. I've neeeeeeeeeever heard a younger Southern artist call her out of her name or go on month-long relevancy tours discussing whether such & such artist is relevant or not. I've heard Nicki Minaj do that though. Look at history, fellas. Every artist has they time to shine and impact folks' lives before the industry phases them out for the next wave of artists. Michael Jackson ruled the '80s, but by the mid '90s, he "fell off" (respectfully using that term to make a point). After Prince's _Diamonds and Pearls_ LP, he fell off. Don't nobody know nothin' after 1991, maaaaaybe 1992. It's not the artist, it's the machine. They flip the switch and determine how long you gon be in the mainstream. Debbie Gibson fell off after the '80s. She made hella LPs during the '90s that nobody's heard. Brit Spears fell off. Madonna fell off. R. Kelly fell off. B2K fell off. Godsmack fell off. Catch my drift? Nah, Jody, you spoke on the influencers like Charleston White, Caresha, etcetera, but they're only giving folks what they want. I understand what you said (w/o saying), but eh... This is what folks want. Folks want easy-breezy entertainment. When you tune into Caresha platform, it's easy-breezy. Hell, I tune into easy-breezy entertainment sometimes, but for the most part, I be watchin' like lil' Nat Geo wildlife documentaries. I be watchin' impalas get they life took by cheetahs and stuff like that. How deep do the ocean go? That's what I watch. I listen to smooth jazz. These kids listen to drill. Catch my drift?

@kup4ever Жыл бұрын
Personally, I do not conflate HipHop w/ Rap(Trap,Drill). HipHop is Biggie, 2Pac, A Tribe Called Quest, OutKast, Missy, De La Soul, JCole, Kendrick, etc. Rap is lyrics supported by hard Trap and Drill beats. HipHop has soul! Rap has no soul and will sell (tell) you anything.
