1972 was so many things, like you said. Abdul Karim Khan's centenary, 20 years since Sawai Gandharva's passing and _also_ our man Bhimsen Gururaj turned 50! Not to mention, it was the year he started Santvani and sang for the movie Sant Tulsidas. It's also exactly 50 years ago from now. :P

Thanks Devansh for uploading this. One interesting observation - almost all the 'material' in form of Tanas etc. used in Gaud Sarang is actually that of Yamani Bilawal. You will see a lot of phrases like NiReGaMaGa, GaPaMaGa which are indicators of Yamani Bilawal and Bilawal in Gaud Sarang.

The voice modulation, in effect, the alteration of not just volume but 'register' (sometimes a nasal Abdul Karim Khan-effect, sometimes a full-throated effect, sometimes a strange thinning of the voice-the last two are done, albeit differently, by Dr Gangubai also) is phenomenal. Bhimanna’s performance creates an image of him singing in a temple (lovely accompanists by the side) before the deity Himself whose praises he is singing, at a beautiful bright orange-skied morning, around 7-8 am.
