Sikander Malik is a storyteller from Bhopal. A cultural curator and a history scholar, he conducts the Bhopal Heritage walks and city tours. He is extremely passionate about his city and loves sharing his knowledge with people visiting Bhopal.
Bhopal was a small princely state in Central India founded by the Afghan adventurer, Sardar Dost Mohammad Khan. The state covered an area of 6902 sq miles and saw thirteen generations of rulers thereafter. But it will always be remembered for its series of female rulers, the Begums of Bhopal. Remembered for their fair and just governance, they transformed Bhopal into a well administered state with connectivity, court practice, hospitals, a sound education system and a strong agrarian economy. Bhopal’s legendary hospitality (mehmaan nawaazi) and cuisine flourished during their rule.

Shahjahan begum also paid for the first mosque in the UK ie woking mosque. She was clearly influenced by her husband who is considered one of the greatest scholar of Islam from India and she herself wrote a book on how Muslim women should carry themselves in a society . The man who wrote more than 200 books but unfortunately no discussion on him or any of speaker mentioned even his name Nawab Siddiq Hassan
