Regulation is not easy but putting a financial burden on a traveller is not acceptable. If an immigration officer causes you to miss your flight for NO legitimate and compelling reason- they should be made accountable and pay for the damages aka cost to rebook your flight, hotels, etc. Listen, if adult men and women willingly want to risk their lives abroad, let them be. It’s not as if they live such comfortable lives here. Let people go to their destination and let them prove their worthiness in the jurisdiction they intend to visit. When people get trafficked, most of the time a BI Officer is involved and everyone knows this. To be honest, it is bad enough that Filipinos have to apply for a visa to most countries of interest because of its third world status, now an IO will play God and determine your travel worthiness? This is just ludicrous and an insult to the rights and privileges of the Filipino people. BI should focus more of who they let in the country first and foremost. Respect the privilege and right of people to travel, don’t ruin people’s dreams of seeing the world. It’s sad that the pandemic didn’t teach you anything. Note: Just a few days ago, a BI officer was caught for participating in human trafficking. That deserves a great round of applause.

Exactly! Why are Filipino citizens being interrogated or screened when leaving the country? That should only be happening when entering the country. As an American, I've only had to deal with US Immigration when coming back from my travels. And that's takes 15 minutes maximum to look at my passport, declaration form, and answer simple questions. Yes, leaving the US, they check your passport at the airport, but that's it, no questions asked.

I'm glad she voiced this out and called them out. Generally, we filipinos dont complain kasi its our nature na maging matiisin but for one voice to speak and challenge the incompetence of any authority, that is a big milestone for us in order to achieve progress..

That's our bad side, because we care about what the feelings of the others if they would be offended or what. This is very wrong mindset. The wrong needs to be rebuked, even God teached us not to be abused by our neighbors. The hypocrisy of most filipino is their own downfall. Kailangan mong magpabalik-balik . Kung gusto mong mapabilis at makakuha ng sagot, either mag-iskandalo ka para may mga reporter na papansin sa iyo or the best way IPA-TULFO MO (eto ang sure fire to get attention). 3,,,, yong makausap ko ang official or head ng isang govt agency para idulog ang problema mo ay CLOSE TO IMPOSSIBLE. I experienced this too last October, I was born in Japan but I grew up in Australia and Philippines but I came from Philippines last year before I flew back to Japan this October so yeah when I was in the immigration they ask me about my passport and ticket so that's normal that's why I handle it towards her and she's shocked that im only 15 years old and travelling alone plus she saw that my nationality is Japanese half filipino and where I was born, she keep asking me questions that's why I gave her my DSWD card that allows me to travel alone but still they *("THEY" BECAUSE THE SECURITY GUARD AND THE OTHER CO-WORKER BESIDE HER)* didn't believe me and asked me to give them my birth certificate so I gave it and they still didn't believe me so I'm getting frustrated and they asked me again but this time they ask me to show them a picture that I have someone waiting in Japan so I called my mom and they still non-stop asking me questions until idk probably a high class worker of them came, talk to them and allowed me to go inside because my DSWD card is already a proof that im allowed LOL even my mom got angry with them

Immigration officers at NAIA almost caused one of our female technicians to miss a flight to Singapore to assemble a flight simulator for a flying school, even though she had work ID, return tickets, hotel booking, and a job order. She was traveling with two male mechanics who weren't questioned. They told her she was "too attractive to be a technician" and accused her of being a prostitute. They asked her irrelevant questions about aircraft, which she easily answered, and then one of the male immigration staff asked for her cell number and if she was single. The senior mechanic was so concerned about missing the flight that he approached the PNP to intervene. They eventually let her proceed after she ended up in tears because she thought she'd be the cause of all of them missing the flight because her colleagues refused to board the plane without her. This is pure harassment and totally unprofessional behavior. I've traveled to over 75 countries and never encountered anything like this.

I’ve experienced this flying back to US after my vacation in the Philippines. The immigration officer asked about my occupation. When i told her, “i am a full time office manager and part time tax preparer.” She looked at me and said “tax preparer?“ then laughed. I wondered what’s not believable to what i just said then i realized she probably doesn’t know that in the US we file our own taxes like we’d go to a tax preparer to have our taxes done. She probably doesn’t know that and thinks i am making up something. 😂

This happened to me when I was going to the Philippines with my parents in 2019. The immigration officer told me and my parents that we need to see him one at a time. For context, I'm half Filipino-Japanese and my dad is Filipino and my mom is Japanese (both are US citizens). My parents went through in less than 5-10 minutes after answering a couple questions. When it came to my turn, the immigration officer asked me some weird questions like if I was single, what perfume I was wearing, how old my photo on my passport was, do I identify more to my filipino side or my Japanese side, and what my real age is cause apparently he thinks I'm 19 but according to my passport I was 28, which is correct. My dad seeing me being detained longer than they were went back to intervene and I was let go. One of the immigration officers told us they had to make sure I am what my passport says in order to prevent human trafficking. My dad was furious as we've been visiting the Philippines at least 5-6 times in the past decade and we never had this issue. On our flight back home to the States, we didn't get any problems other than one immigration officer commented that I don't look like my parents.

I can relate to this. (Former OFW) I was offloaded too last December 2022. My whole family arranged a BKK trip for the holidays(after 2 yrs of planning). Imagine my disgust when I was the only one who can’t board the flight. Spend Christmas alone here in the PH. Ang sakit sa puso yung feeling na you’re helpless and hopeless. it happens far too often. many years ago I spent 7 weeks fighting a ridiculous situation where an immigration officer delayed me so I missed the flight. They showed me a 10 year old document, and I stated it was out of date and that the immigration website gave more current information that was very different to the document they were showing me. I wanted the bureau to pay for my replacement flight and to eliminate all charges for visa overstaying caused by their delaying tactics.

The BI refused my fiance from boarding her flight in Manila. She had all the paperwork and visas for her travel. She was going to meet me in Vietnam for a months holiday. They said that she needed a letter from me stating that I was supporting her trip. As I was boarding my flight from Australia I was unable to send letters etc. So she was tossed out of the airport late at night with nowhere to go and in an extreme emotional state. The travel insurance I paid for her refused to help with her flights that had already been paid. Thanks a lot SAFETYWING. They said it was her fault she couldn't take her flight. When I emailed the BI the next day they said it was up to each individual officer to make a decision on a persons travel. This has left her extremely reluctant to want to even try leaving the country again. I am sure there are a lot of similar stories but people are to afraid to complain.

Nobody want to say it but this only mostly a female solo traveller problem. Had a friend go on a solo trip to a nearby country. I told her specific things to do to avoid exactly this type of thing happening, because i know shenanigans like this about Ph immigration. I told her to prepare “show money” like a passbook with savings stated on it, a picture of her degree saved on her phone, along with pics of “hi end events” shes pictured in. I also told her that she can avoid being questioned if she just “looked rich” so i told her specifically to dress nice and wear makeup. She later thanked me for telling her all this as when she was at immigration, another pinay lady was not let thru and was crying. MIND YOU THIS WAS OVER 10 YEARS AGO.

Connections are rampant in government offices. Know the right people, and you'll discover groups and relatives know each other Skilled workers and ethical professionals are thrown under the rug because of that, despite having high standards and a recognized difficult exam. Another problem is the rising elitism within the country, but elites aren't the only problem. Filipinos are prideful by nature, these includes the lower income. Anything that can lead to insults can easily be a cause for problems and just end up in counterproductive results Critical thinking and even thinking of the future generations are thrown under the rug To summarize, the problem is the system, built and recognized by the people. The way it is right now - the Philippines is eventually gonna become a failed state that relies on big name families to run it

We understand the procedure that it is needed but what I observe is an abuse of power or authority. The BI officer who interviewed her Baka trip Lang or was not afraid because he/she know that they have no accountability or not liable if ever the passenger would miss the flight. Although airport staff came to the office inform the passenger and the officer that she is the only passenger has not boarded yet, and yet she miss the flight. The officer will not pay for the missed flight and rebooking. The privacy was also breech, he keep scrolling on her emails on her phone. So for that officer it's okay Lang, browse Lang nang browse even you only want to see the email that she book or confirmation, that's a breech. No accountability and abuse of power. I hope they are not using this tactic to force passengers to bribe them and I hope it is not. I hope not all officers are not doing it. They have to make sanctions in this kind of cases and refund them or rebook their flight and assist them until it is settled. They have to fix it and keep reminding their officers to be professional. They have to also fix the BI main office customer service or in the airport, people are calling and reaching in your phone but no one answers. How would they fix the problem if the services is not available.

Hindi lang yan simple case of power tripping or incompetence on the part of the BI officer (for not conducting a proper interview), graft and corruption ang mas malalim na dahilan diyan. Napansin ko they prey on women, mas marami silang tanong sa mga babae at base sa kwento ng mga nasa comment section dito, may subtle “sexual harassment” din in some cases. If you are a single female traveler, you are at risk of being harrassed by our very own BI officers, whether babae o lalake ang officer pareho lang sila. Actually, yung public apology ng BI is “sorry not sorry” ang tone. Hindi sincere ang apology nila. If they are sincere, they would offer to pay for the rebooking, pay for any other inconvenience caused, investigate the incident and the officer involved, and look into their interview process.

All that will still come from the taxpayers. Rather, let the immigration officers shoulder payments from their own salaries, and not the agency. Hold them individually responsible

This is nothing new tbh. I think it just got worst throughout the years. I remember back in 2015 when I was going to Dubai to visit my father. He prepared all the requirements and papers beforehand. I distinctly remember the immigration officer asking me for things like diploma, salary certificate, employment contract. So I told him directly that I don't have those things with me since my purpose is only for vacation, to visit my father. The only thing that was really needed was my visa and proof of place to stay at, to which I gave my father's rent contract. He even threatened me that he will have my checked in baggage searched to see if I was carrying any diplomas or TOR. I asked the officer why was he threatening me, that it is very inappropriate. So I told him directly that the only requirements that he should be looking for is my visa and where I would stay, thats it! He got angry and detained me in their office for further "investigation". There they interviewed me again and even looked up my travel history, as well as my father's. I got held up so long that one of the employee of the airline had to collect me and inform the officers that the flight is already boarding. I was there for more than an hour! The whole time I thought that maybe they were just waiting for me to hand them some cash to release me.

I had experienced a lengthy questioning at the BI also during my 1st travel out of the country 8 yrs. ago. Most questions were relevant about me and the reasons of my flight though it was uncomfortable sitting there at first which lasted approx 20-30 mins. waiting time.

they should pay you for re booking your flight and compensate you for the inconvenience. i also highly suggest to name that person who caused the delay. but you what i think is that they overbooked the flight, gave your spot to someone else and used you as the sacrificial lamb

If you need to ask permission to leave your own country, then you don't live in a free country. I think Filipino people have been conditioned to say nothing but positive things about their country, when in reality the negatives in this country far outweigh the positives. Kudos to this woman for standing up against the insanity that is the BI, and the Philippines government in general!

This kind of problem should be addressed and taken action ASAP by our government officials as it affects thousands of Filipinos travelling abroad. I have personal experience regarding this as well, almost didnt make it on my flight .Sana I senate hearing din ito para marinig ng taong bayan ang klase ng serbisyong ginagawa ng BI, mula sa extortion, abuse of authority and unprofessionalism.
