But it still feels like a big part of my life I can’t talk about. Like attractive women on the street, convos with friends, participate in pride events, etc. Not sure exactly what to do!

sounds like you should definitely come out! you don't want to live your life in secrecy, especially not for your (future) husband. also, if you're afraid that he'll or any of your friends wouldn't accept you then maybe they're not the best people to be around..

@CloMarie I'm in the exact same situation. I accepted myself being bisexual, when I started dating my boyfriend, so I didn't tell anyone back then, because for them I now was very straight. I didn't tell my bf for around five months, but when I did, he was the most supporting person you could imagine. I still feel weird about my sexuality from time to time and I can talk about it with him and he always reassures me that it's totally fine and that I'm valid. So telling him was the best thing I ever did. Since then I also came out to a few very close friends (most of them were like, yeah we know, it's obvious...). I only had good experiences so far. I just don't know how to tell my parents and people at university who I'm not that close with, even though I want them to know. I would definitely come out to a few selcted people if I were you, to test out what it feels like. It already helps to have a handful of people to talk to. And I would tell your boyfriend, because if he supports you, that's the best feeling in the world. And if he doesn't... I mean it sucks, but I guess you wouldn't want to be with him anyway. Sorry that this got so long, but I hope I could help you somehow 😊

To me the difference between bi and pan has always been clear. If you're bi, there's a difference in the way you're attracted to different genders. Or you may even prefer one over the other. If you're pan, gender is typically something you don't really take into account when you're attracted to someone. You just see them as people. So there isn't a conscious difference in the way you're attracted to different genders.

I wouldn’t say that a characteristic of bisexuality is that we always take gender into account and don’t see people as just people (in my experience). It’s like when people explain pansexuality as “hearts not parts” and say that only pansexual people care about someone’s personality, it doesn’t sit right with me
@GeorgiaBridgersYT4 жыл бұрын

@@larajarratt6043 Imagine this. You have different flavors of cake. You like multiple ones. Perhaps equally perhaps not. Most importantly, when you are given these different types of cake, you might acknowledge the nuances that differentiate them. The flavors of the cake may not ultimately influence your choice (there's other factors you might want to consider) but you might be very aware of how different they are in the way you like them. On the other hand, it's possible that your only thought when you see them is that they are cakes and that you like cakes and that's the only thing you need to make your decision.

See I kinda hate it when Pan people say they like boys, girls, and trans people. Because when they say that it’s kinda transphobic because it’s basically saying that trans women or trans guys aren’t real guys and girls. It’s just kinda problematic to me.
@slenderfoxx37974 жыл бұрын
I dont really think its issue. Its not bad to acknowledge the difference between being cis and trans. It's not like being trans lowers your self worth. And that pansexual person was probably just clarifying they include trans people in their dating options as if they just said "male and female" we wouldn't know if they date trans men and women as well. Hardly offensive and nothing to get angry about. I think its important to not use words such as "Transphobic" lightly. Even if somebody isn't general attracted to trans people, that does not make them transphobic
@antonellapascal62144 жыл бұрын
I think the same as you. I mean, if you read the 1990 bisexual manifesto it clearly says that bisexual people are attracted to non-binary people too. I think bisexuality doesn't only include women and men but also all genders. I think both terms mean the same.

I think a nice way to define bisexuality (and the way that I use it in reference to my own sexuality) is that the "BI" in the word (which means two) refers to 1) people with the same gender identity as me and 2) people with a different gender identity than me (aka everyone else) aka the "bi" does NOT refer to 1) men and 2) women.

I have so many thoughts on this topic so please excuse what I know is going to be a lot of rambling (tl;dr at end) But what’s hard about labeling sexuality is that it’s very personal, and so labels mean something a little bit different to everyone that uses them. No one can really be the authority to decide what these words mean for everyone. That doesn’t make labels useless - They can be helpful because they can give us a sense of community and help us share common experiences. In communication with other people, they can give us a broad understanding of a person’s sexuality (for example, a person who identifies as pan can probably be assumed to be attracted to all genders, a person who is bi can be assumed to be attracted to multiple genders, etc.) but we still haven’t come to enough consensus on these terms to assume too much about a person’s experience simply from the label they’re using. And I believe that no two people experience their sexuality the exact same way, so I don’t even know if coming up with universally agreed upon definitions of different sexualities is possible. That said, I think we can further refine these definitions/come up with new ones to help make communication easier as well as to help us find more people who share our experiences. An example of this that’s already happening is with the terms polysexual and omnisexual. These terms came in to use when people had open conversations about the nuances of their sexuality and realized the diversity that exists among people who are attracted to multiple genders. The community came up with terms to reflect that diversity, and now there are new communities forming around those terms. I guess what I’m saying is is that I’m really glad that this conversation is happening because I recognize the need for more clarity on these terms. When we all talk about what *we* mean when we use a term, it helps us come to a better consensus. But even with that, I think we need to recognize that one word can only ever give us so much information about someone’s experience. So I think we need to respect everyone’s differing experiences with/uses of these terms and try not to assume too much based on one word someone uses to label themself. Idk, just some thoughts I have because I think about these different labels and what they mean quite often ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i hope that all makes at least some sense lol TL;DR sexuality is complicated and individual to each person and therefore, so is the language we use to describe it , so we can’t assume too much detail based on the label someone uses. We need to keep having these conversations to further clarify these definitions, while respecting that there isn’t really consensus on these terms right now, so no one is really an authority to decide what other people should mean when they use them.

I relate to this. For the longest time I have suppressed my feelings towards women and tried to convince myself that I was straight. When I finally accepted that I was attracted to females, I felt so much comfortable expressing my attraction towards them. I feel like because I suppressed these feelings for so long, it's almost like I'm trying to compensate for all those years of internal homophobia. Nevertheless, I think men are attractive but when you have magical creatures like women gracing the Earth...I sometimes think I would prefer to spend the rest of my life with a female. I still identify as bisexual, but lean towards women more. Sexuality is fluid and is a spectrum after all.

After a year of slowly coming out to different people I am out to the world as bisexual... only to admit to myself today that I’m biromantic but homosexual. It’s a lot... Part of why I hung on to the bisexual identity for so long is because I don’t want to leave this beautiful community. I still don’t, and I’m quite scared. I’m scared of the discrimination I will unavoidably face as a lesbian. I’m scared to live a life that my family will never truly support. But here we are. Thank you, Georgia Bridgers, Keara Graves, and the entire bisexual community, for validating and supporting me through so much. I know hardly anyone will read this, but I wanted to hug you goodbye. I’m not going to stop loving y’all of course, but it’s different. I’m saying goodbye to the version of me who belonged with you. 11:43 As a pansexual I can say you summed that up pretty well but the way I would explain it is I can be attracted to someone who looks cute or because of their looks but when goes into gender I would be considered "gender blind" or when it comes to dating gender isn't important to me. For example I could turn someone down because they aren't my type, or I could turn them down because I don't like their personality / or because I don't think our personalities would do well together in a relationship but I cant turn someone down because of their gender. I will still respect pronouns but it doesn't matter what they are. i hope that helped anyone.

This is the definition of "Bisexual" that I identify with most (and that many other Bi+ people agree with): “I call myself bisexual because I acknowledge that I have in myself the potential to be attracted - romantically and/or sexually - to people of more than one gender, not necessarily at the same time, not necessarily in the same way, and not necessarily to the same degree.” - Robyn Ochs

I think a reason that people think bisexuality is attraction to only men and women is because of the “bi” part but it’s there as kind of a linguistic holdover from when society viewed attraction based on just sexes (of which there are two) and not genders. I came out as bi to my mom and aunt before I came out to my dad because I knew they were more open minded than him. When I did eventually come out to him, he basically said it was just a phase. I don't think I will ever come out to my grandparents. My grandma might say a prayer over me if I do. 😂😭

I totally agree with you on that definition of Bisexual, that's pretty much how I feel too. I can understand why people would want to put me un the pansexual identity, but that's not what I identify myself as because it doesn't feel as right as bisexual, for me personally. Loved the video, ur cute as hell! ^.^

I feel exactly the same about coming out!! I thought I was the only one who felt like they were hiding a part of themselves before coming out. Thank you so much for this video Georgia ❤❤❤

I'm pansexual and I think the main difference is that Bi is a broader term for many types of attractions while Pan is a more specific. Everyone who is Bi is not Pan while Pan can fit into the Bi label if someone so chooses. The main thing is that people choose these labels for various reasons so no definition will ever fit all (trust me I have looked and there's always debate). If you want to know why I identify as pan I'd be happy to explain!

You explained bisexuality and pansexuality so well that now I'm questioning myself for using the term bi 🤔 I mean, I really usually care about the personality more and can feel strong attraction only after getting to know them a bit but I still don't feel pan.
@emilyf92883 жыл бұрын
bisexuals also care about personality just as much!! saying otherwise kinda implies we're a bit shallow, which isnt true ofc. bisexuals love personality just like anyone of any sexuality would :)
@_riippuu3 жыл бұрын
@@emilyf9288 Oh I completely understand that. What I meant by being attracted to "personality" was the distinction between sexes and genders. Some people say that pansexual are "gender blind" meaning that the gender does not make a difference to the way they're attracted to people whereas with bi people the way or the things you're attracted to may wary between the genders you're attracted to, if that makes sense.
@_riippuu3 жыл бұрын
@@emilyf9288 So I was just stating that I tend to go for the personality more and don't really recard the person's gender in any way rather than seeing them as a person of a certain gender + their personality, you know?

so basically you’re attracted to femininity and masculinity...? like you’re aware of the femininity and masculinity of people whereas some people don’t care.

i don't know if i can express how grateful i am that you addressed being bi vs being pan--i had been meaning to ask you if you would talk about it. it's so heartbreaking to see how much transphobia there is when it comes to people talking about bisexuality especially, because it hurts both the bi and pan communities. excluding trans/non-binary/gender-nonconforming people from who you could be attracted to is not "just a preference," it's transphobic, and it has nothing to do with your label. i knew you would approach this subject with love and the fact that you are committed to sharing how open you are to learn more is part of why you are my favorite youtuber.

Can I ask you a question genuinely? I consider myself a lesbian. If someone Identifies as a girl I can be attracted to them no problem. But when it comes down to sex, I just can't do it with a penis. I just feel like it should not be near me like that in that way. Even if I like the person. Is that transphobic?
@we.genuinely.think28824 жыл бұрын
@@PeterTheCatMan I'm not Georgia but I wouldn't say that this is transphobic, you just aren't attracted to penises, so nothing wrong to not want to have sex with a person who has one. It isn't transphobic to not wanting to have sex with a trans person. It would only be transphobic if you insulted them for having a penis. And also nothing wrong with liking a trans woman. Romantic feelings and sexual feelings can differ. It's not a bad thing as long as you're respectful about it
@echoesofnewwords4 жыл бұрын
@@PeterTheCatMan i would say it would be best to get the opinion of someone who is trans, i'm not trans so i don't really think it would be fair for me to say it is or isn't transphobic. it seems like your heart is in the right place, so just always be open to talking about it. maybe you'll meet someone who could change your mind.
@Leo-nq1sb4 жыл бұрын
Another way to explain the bi vs pan thing is that to me (a bi person) it feels different when I'm attracted to a guy than I do when im attracted to a girl. That doesn't mean I'm attracted to their gender, just that it plays a role in the attraction.
@reesespuffs48694 жыл бұрын

the actual difference is that bisexuality is a spectrum though, just so you know :)
