This was the matinee, John called it the rehearsal. I attended it, still have ticket stub. Cost 7.50 in 1972. Listen for john to say at the end of instant karma 'we'll get it right next time' this was a benefit concert with Stevie wonder, Roberta flack and sha na na opening b4 j&y. The nighttime performance was filmed but never released.

Never released? I saw it in 1972 on ABC or something. It was released. No VHS, DVD or Blu-Ray in 1972.

@mirrortime no, read comment again, I said the evening performance was never released. Abc airing 4 songs on TV isn't released, the vhs, laser and this upload is the afternoon performance, which I attended

Ms Yoko Ono showed to the world that she is NOT just a nobody, that she has her own talents and has displayed her level of education with her manner.of speaking and rapport with people and followers... Sean is very much like his father and appears to have gotten his musical genius.... 💙❤️💛💚💜🤍

This mans power was positive, it wasnt negitive, his energy was wholesome and on the side of love. John wasnt perfect of course we all have our flaws but by an by john was a decent soul, a romantic, a joker, a true artist by which many today are measured. I was born in 1970, by 84 or 85 his influence had started taking effect on me. His music is still relevant in 2024 and still sorely missed., in the new world order john shall return in a new body and learn the ways of the creator JEHOVAH the almighty when wars and hunger and death will be abolished and will never again come up into the heart. ❤

Also if ya dig and enjoyed this video John Lennon 😀 you may also enjoy the song " Most of All " By Glenn Kaiser and Where Roses Grow Live by Rez Band Awesome songs check them out. Also I remember hearing the song by Led Zepp " In My Time of Dyin " during my drug years and made me think about death and Jesus. Then a hippy friend that dug Jesus told me more of Jesus love and forgiveness and how I could also know Jesus love. So in 1981 I cried out to Jesus and wow man He came into my life and I had and have so much joy and peace and now know that through Jesus when I die I will be with Him in Heaven. Hey Jesus loves each of you also and yall can know Him if you are at all open. Just cry out to Him and a good question to ask yourself if you were to die today would you go to heaven ? And if yes why ? To find out more please read the Gospel of John in the Bible or check out the movie on KZbin. 😀

It depends which Beatles song you listen to. John could never have surpassed Paul's vocals on great rockers like *Long Tall Sally,* *I'm Down,* *Kansas City* or *Helter Skelter*. And as for definitive Beatles classics such as *Hey Jude,* *Let It Be* and *Here, There And Everywhere*, they would have been lesser tracks if John had sung the lead. On the one hand, I've been at gigs where Paul sings live versions of masterpieces such as *A Day In The Life," and he really doesn't measure up to John's beautiful rendition. On the other hand, I've also heard John's noble attempt to cover *I Saw Her Standing There" (with the Elton John band at MSG) and it isn't in the same league of the times that I've heard Paul singing it. With the right song, John could give a better, more moving, emotional vocal performance than any singer who ever stepped up to microphone ( *Twist And Shout,* *You're Going To Lose That Girl,* *I Am The Walrus,* *Dear Prudence* not to mention some of his solo work on the *Plastic Ono Band,* *Imagine,* and *Rock & Roll* albums in particular. But the wonder of the Beatles is that we could listen to brilliant tracks such as *Something,* *Come Together,* *You Never Give Me Your Money,* *Here Comes The Sun,* *I Want You (She's So Heavy)* and "Golden Slumbers/The End* on the SAME album and rejoice not only in the brilliance of the songwriting and arrangements but also in the vocal performances of all of those tracks which would not and could not have been sung better by any other member of what is still the best band of all time. At the risk of using up all of the internet bandwidth, I'll make one more point. Many of John's most brilliant vocal performances in the Beatles were enormously enhanced by fabulous harmony vocals by Paul which dramatically increased the power of the final mix, albeit with John still prominent. Just a few examples include *Don't Let Me Down,* *Day Tripper* and *I Want To Hold Your Hand". Take Paul out of the vocal mix there and it's nowhere near as gripping. John's entire solo career suffered from his lack of a vocal "wingman" who could enhance the vocal energy with a powerful high harmony. For me, one of the best examples of this is *You Don't Know What You Got (Until You Lose It)* from the Walls & Bridges album which was screaming out for a high harmony by Paul. By contrast, Elton John's high harmonies (and powerful piano playing) took *Whatever Gets You Through The Night,* from the same album, all the way to number one in the Billboard singles charts. John's great voice needed to be placed in the correct environment to truly show its magnificence. To put it another way, John needed Paul's contributions more than John ever cared to admit.

Thank you for posting this because I've never seen most of it before. I really liked the Plastic Ono Band album when it came out and I took it to eight grade class and freaked the nuns out a bit but they went with it anyway which I always appreciated. This performance is . . . ok but still pretty weak. Drugs and alcohol had robbed Lennon of much of his creativity and life and looks long he was tragically murdered. It's sad when one thinks what might have been. Lennon clearly had deep wounds from his troubled childhood but I sure as shit don't think 99% of parents were like his. My parents and my friends parents certainly weren't. In fact, they were working class heroes, as am I. And BTW, what in absolute fuck was Yoko doing?

Yoko is an extremely accomplished pianist, so had every reason to be on keyboards, but her singing voice leaves a lot to be desired. John lost his looks through dieting after somebody asked him if he wanted to be known as the fat Beatle. He was not fat, merely more of a manly shape than the other boy like Beatles. However he became an anorexic when they lived in the Dakota building & was totally unrecognisable as John Lennon, when he was shot & killed, only Yoko rushing into the hospital & shouting for John, did the doctors & nurses know who'd they'd been trying to save ! Even when in the Beatles, John was terrified of being shot on stage ! As for his creativity, he made the personal decision to do little & Watch the Wheels go Round. When Sean was born, he slipped into house husband mode & enjoyed his son. I think there was a lot of jealousy of Julian by Yoko & a lot of regret around Julian by John !
