Thank you! We have just acquired a good old boat! We will use some of your techniques to check it over more before we get started restoring her!

Hi! Great video! I am tiny bit surprised that you just knocked on a few spots in the hull shouldn't you have to knock the entire hull especially at so called "turning" areas like at the transom. Keep up the great work! I love your vid

I guess I should have filmed more of the entire hull taping process. Thanks for the comment. You are absolutely correct.

Just found your channel and enjoying the videos; but it would be really helpful if you included asking price on all boats and accepted price on any boat you buy. It's the overiding metric for all boats. Thanks for the videos! Paul...

Thanks Paul, that’s a really good point. I’ll try to answer that down the road in a Q&A. Definitely worth talking about. After all, most often times it’s all about the Benjamins. Cheers!

Good suggestions on this. I would have liked to see you look at the mast and chain plates and consider corrosion on mast fittings etc. If the engine had been standing for 4 years with an exhaust valve open, the moisture from the exhaust probably got back into the cylinder. (I had this problem after just a winter with my own Verl 27). Needed a re-bore and a new oversize piston as I remember it (24 odd years ago). Does the Penta have cylinder liners or is the bore straight into the block? Cylinder liners you could get away with just a fitting a new liner and a new set of rings. A lot cheaper than a new engine. while doing this though you could replace all the bearings and seals and you would have a virtually new engine for a lot cheaper than an off the shelf new unit I am guessing...

Hi guys, I just checked out your Bianca 27 survey video. I've got a 1972 Bianca 27 myself and can certainly recommend this boat if you're looking for a good sailing and safe oldie but goodie. She cleans up really nicely and she's grateful for any personal touches/modifications you might want to carry out. Reach out if you have any questions. Ad

Hey AD, thanks for your comment. Glad you enjoyed the video. Agreed, the Bianca 27 is an awesome boat. We are in the process of turning ours inside out. Check out our other videos if you like. We will keep posting as we are moving along. We would like to get back to you with some questions, as they pop up. Where are you sailing out of?

As the market moves entirely to Catamarans, make sure that you don't get stuck with this type of old style mono boat. It will be nearly impoossible to sell this to anyone later and these are being abaondoned all over the world for failure to pay the monthly storage costs. Basically, no one wants to pay 600 per month to park these relics and walk away. Do not pay anything for them unless you are using it that summer and willing to dump them later. There are tens of thousands of tiny sailboats from the 60s, 70s etc that no one really wants so know the market if you even think of getting one - every old boat is for sale, with owners hoping and praying someone will be silly enough to buy it one last time before it is trashed - don't believe the "expensive upgrade" nonsense - they are still essentially worthless regardless if what the last guy wasted his money "upgrading" it. Market price is essentially zero - you can't insure these old things so you can't go to marinas as they require proof of insurance. Think free or $400.00 or something like that for some summer fun. Even then, you will use it twice over the summer and hate it the second time. Maybe you can get a few picures for instagram. Not sure what else you can do with them.

@@SAILINGGOODOLDBOATS ...no worries. Anything that helps you not make a mistake and buy something like that. Look for newer and almost certainly Catamaran. If you insist in mono boat, then just borrow one for a summer and get that out of your system. You will thank me later. Remember, when flat screen TVs came out there was always some guy who just "loved" old style 1990s TVs.. That's the way to think of it today with these old mono boats.

Thanks for pointing that out to me. Much appreciated. However, if one is sailing on a budget an old mono hull might fit the bill. Cheers!

@@SAILINGGOODOLDBOATS ..sorry, I just watched your video. I didn't know that you bought it. So yes, on a budget for sure it looks good. Ditto for that Alberg 30 that Tritiea uses (on youtube) or the Sailing Brothers also do a smaller boat and that older guy Old Sea Dog. All of them are having a great time and I totally would rather be doing what they do than what I do. I guess I was talking about ideal situation.. Oh well... :) ps., What do you think of a Saga 36?

Hey Coleen, please don't worry about apologizing. It's all good. Our mission is to show folks that it is possible to go sailing on a budget. That's why we always pick out Good Old Boats, which are capable yet affordable. It's all about getting as many passionate sailors into the game as possible. We want to show that one can have great sailing adventures on a relatively small budget. Fair winds, and always a hand wide of water under the keel. Have fun sailing.

Have you checked if the gear was on neutral when you tried to crank it?

Hi Mike, thanks for the question. Yes, I have checked that the gear was in neutral. If you go to our channel you can see what the issue was in the following episodes. Just click on our „Sailing Good Old Boats“ icon in the lower right hand corner. It will bring you right to our channel. There are many more episodes to watch about this boat. Enjoy

It looks like a fiberglass folkboat.

Yes, it does look like that a bit. However, it has much more volume. As the Folkboat, it’s very seaworthy though. We really like the design. It’s a stout vessel.

Hence this boat is one of the latest they have made, the keel ballast is encapsulated. Earlier model had bolted keels.

@@SAILINGGOODOLDBOATS Mine is a few years older and also has a capsulated ballast. It's safe and comfortable in all weather. I have a real big light genoa sail too, so it moves well in light winds also, and mine has side by side double forestays.
