Thank you so much for this. I think this is the most detailed, well-informed overview of any sailboat I've ever seen on You Tube. Absolutely brilliant!

As a recently new owner of a Bianca 27, I appreciated this video. Being a relatively old boat, I was happy to see the previous owners had kept it well maintained over the years. I am currently making her ready for the season, and I am excited to experience her during the summer. Great informative video.

Erstaunlich was das kleine Schiffchen leistet.

Stay tuned and enjoy. Fair winds and always a hand wide water under the keel. Cheers!

There are two forestays. If you want to put a roller furler should you remove one forestay?
@SAILINGGOODOLDBOATS
@SAILINGGOODOLDBOATS Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for the question. Yes, I assume one would have to sacrifice either one of the forestays in order install a furling system.

So, in general, looks like it's a great boat for the money it may cost now, is it? If summarized, what are the main drawbacks? Perks?

Hi there, I think the Bianca 27 is a lot of bang for your buck. She does everything reasonably well, except winning you a lot of prizes on the racing course. As always, it really depends on what you are intending to do with her. I personally think she makes for a great passage maker on a budget. Fair winds. Cheers!

@SAILINGGOODOLDBOATS I have a question: there is no bilge pump, is it? From the cockpit, the water goes out naturally, and the inside bilge is closed from water sources. Is that correct?

Hi there great work and a lovely boat, what is the make of the wind vane sreering, it looks very classy and not to obtrusive compared to a lot of self steering systems

Hi Peter, thanks for the comment. Honestly, I don’t know what make and model that is. It’s very simple though, with a 1:1 gear ratio. In order to work somewhat reliable it needs about 10 knots of wind at least. Cheers!

It is an old German Windpilot. They are not produced anymore but the company makes now more modern designes. I had an old Windpilot on an Albin Vega and it steered the boat well.

How do you see the Bianca in comparison to the Allegro 27 as a small passagemaker and for single handing on the high seas.
@SAILINGGOODOLDBOATS
@SAILINGGOODOLDBOATS 2 жыл бұрын
That's a loaded question, and would be probably enough to talk about for an entire Episode. I think the Allegro 27 is also a very capable passage maker. By numbers, it appears to be even a little bit faster in light air than the Bianca 27. It is lighter and has less draft, but also has a wider beam, and longer waterline. Consequently, it sits not as deep in the water and therefore sacrifices comfort ratio over speed. Even though it has a canoe stern, which makes for a relatively cramped cockpit in general, the boat looks actually more spacious than the Bianca 27. I would expect her to track well with her full-length keel, which does not have a cutaway forefoot, and therefore she will be a hand full to maneuver in tight quarters. Every design is a compromise, right? Her capsize screening formula is also less with her wider beam, and her hull sitting higher in the water. It is still plenty good enough though. Of course, there is much more that could be said about this, but let's sum it up. I think both designs are very capable little passage makers. The Allegro is lighter and faster than the Bianca but sacrifices comfort and a self-righting performance. Unfortunately, I can not speak to the strength and craftsmanship of the Allegro. I have never seen one in flesh. Just looking at her performance data, I think she would make for a very good choice as a little passage maker for the single-handed sailor. The sail-plan could be altered into a cutter by adding a baby stay. I hope I could somewhat answer your question. Fair winds. Cheers!

@@SAILINGGOODOLDBOATS Thanks for your thoughts, that mirrors my own to a large extent. I'll try to get a good Allegro 27 as soon as possible an then get going. Thanks again. And carry on with your boat restauration projects. But don't forget to sail while doing all this work. Life is damn short.

As the market moves entirely to Catamarans, make sure that you don't get stuck with this type of old style mono boat. It will be nearly impoossible to sell this to anyone later and these are being abaondoned all over the world for failure to pay the monthly storage costs. Basically, no one wants to pay 600 per month to park these relics and walk away. Do not pay anything for them unless you are using it that summer and willing to dump them later. There are tens of thousands of tiny sailboats from the 60s, 70s etc that no one really wants so know the market if you even think of getting one - every old boat is for sale, with owners hoping and praying someone will be silly enough to buy it one last time before it is trashed - don't believe the "expensive upgrade" nonsense - they are still essentially worthless regardless if what the last guy wasted his money "upgrading" it. Market price is essentially zero - you can't insure these old things so you can't go to marinas as they require proof of insurance. Think free or $400.00 or something like that for some summer fun. Even then, you will use it twice over the summer and hate it the second time. Maybe you can get a few picures for instagram. Not sure what else you can do with them.

@@Coleen_West you obviously have no experience with small seaworthy monohull boats. Catamarans are of no use in the baltic sea with the ubiquitius narrow marina slips. And nobody pays here anything like 600 €/$/£ per month for a marina berth. I pay about 350 € for a complete summer saison, another 600 for the complete winter storage in a boat shed. Small catamarans are not really seaworthy. In Sweden prices for small boats are low, but in most european countries prices for well kept smaller monohulls are stabile. By the way, I sail meanwhile a Allegro 27, bought her 2 years ago, sailed last year about 2200 natical miles, mostly offshore. This summer I plan to sail to the Azores and looking forward to this journey. And I really enjoy the very well made woodwork inside, the smooth sailing upwind and the easily achieved good speeds.

@@helmrichharms2225 hmmm. seems very affordable. I wonder why it is so inexpensive in Sweden and so expensive everywhere else. You could never get into a Marina for a summer for $350 anywhere in the US, Caribean, Europe/Med or Asia from what I can tell. Not even close. If you know of a small blue water sailboat from 28 to 37 feet please let me know. You guys are converting me especially on the price. I would fly over and buy it. Do you have youtube videos of your sailboat?

Im thinking to buy a Bianca 27 . Can one live full time in a Bianca single sailor?? Or would the space drive you mad??
@SAILINGGOODOLDBOATS
@SAILINGGOODOLDBOATS Жыл бұрын
Hi Bruno, thanks for your question. Well, it depends on where your pain threshold is. I’m referring here mostly to the volume of livable accommodations on board. For a single handed sailor, with very little need for fancy it might suffice. However, for living on board full time it might get a little snug after a while. I think the boat offers sufficient space for a cruising couple, or maybe even a small family for weekend adventures, possibly even a week long trip. If you live a very minimalistic lifestyle, I think it would be doable. It’s a very capable little sailboat for sure. Just not the most spacious one for a 27 footer. If you visit our KZbin Channel, by simply clicking on the channel icon in the lower right hand corner, you can watch more videos about this boat. The entire second season has been dedicated to the Bianca 27. Have fun. Cheers!
