I thought the same! I wish they could somehow ban it. Make it the equivalent of yelling obscenities at the opponent. It’s unfair and distracting. The opponent can’t hear the sound of the ball coming off her racquet, which would give hints as to how well or poorly it was hit.

Liu is a reasonably tall player, with exceptional racket head speed (long levers). She makes great use of that with serve speeds that are among the highest on tour, along with a tremendous backhand. Great stuff.

I’ll never understand Andreescu’s change in demeanor and playstyle. When she won the US Open she was a lot more decisive and hit the ball flatter and more aggressively, she also wasn’t making any grunting noises, at least nothing like she does now. Now, she hits with too much topspin, plays with way too much margin and rarely tries to just put away a ball the way it’s begging to be put away, and makes these pathetic whiney grunts every single time she hits the ball. It’s as though she’s pleading to win the point when she grunts. So hard to watch let alone play against.
