Its nice to hear some appreciation for Gunter. I find that every challenging map in conquest, gunter can have some kind of niche or utility in those maps. I value utility and niche uses higher than most and I love Gunter.

As a fellow Charlotte enthusiast, she is only a glass cannon if you insist on keeping her as a Berserker. Reclassing her to Wyvern Rider via A+ support with Beruka is her best class by far if you want to train her. She'll have at least 11 defense as a Wyvern, which isn't as bad as it sounds when you consider she starts with 33 HP at base level (for comparison, Beruka starts with 23 HP, 14 def and Camilla starts with 30 HP, 18 def). With a defense tonic and possibly the chapter 10 Dracoshield, she'll be bulkier than Beruka and will have way better offense, and with a decent 40% defense growth, she'll keep getting bulkier. Late game, she can reclass to pick up Axefaire from Berserker along with Malig's Trample for +10 damage and she can even marry Arthur or Silas for Elbow Room for ridiculous +13, but that's probably overkill.

That is fair but the issue boils down to Beruka not being worth the massive bonus you get from Charlotte and the time sink usually being less valuable than just sticking her to Xander and calling it a day

@@lagspike7763 It definitely is a lot of investment to be sure, so in an efficiency context it's definitely better to go the backpack route. Speaking of friendship seals, have you tried Archer Effie? Mozu comes early enough that it isnt too hard to get her close to A+ with her paralogue and the early chapters, and Puissance+Quick Draw can get you pretty hilarious one-shot kills.

You know, with that on-map HP Tonic strat from the other vid, you could probably make some fun Hero Flora build, just make sure to dump beforehand an arms scroll on the BBQ grill so you can get her a hand axe, then icy blood + counter + dual strike should ensure she grabs kills Then snowball with strong riposte and sol back onto an actually good class Like big ninja obtained through dragon dong (Flora is best wife anyway, imagine going Felicia instead ugh i'm literally shaking)

How are you getting counter onto Flora ? Her only supports are Corrin and Flora. If you want her as a ninja you need to make that corrins talent. But then how do u get counter ?

As a reformed Gunter hater who has long since seen the light, one of the most fun things I’ve found to do is to marry Gunter and have him backpack to pick up proc skills. He has natural and quick access to Luna, Aegis, and Sol (and can marry female Corrin for either a desired proc skill class or backpack class) Around Level 15, pop back in to Nohr Noble for 2 levels to grab Nohrian Trust and one of the best backpacks in the game just got better. You can run samurai as your talent and have him pick up Astra for you If you’re going magic Corrin, you can have Malig Knight Pair Up Gunter giving you access to Sol without having to go through Hero. It’s the one way I’ve found to effectively make use of Nohrian Trust and it feels so good to use, even if it is pretty niche

I don't know if you mentioned it, but Nxy is a really good PU-Bot as an Adventurer. I think @ S-Rank she gives 3 Mag, 6 Spd, 2 Res and 1 Move. (-1 Mag/Spd @ A-Rank) and it really goes nicely in hand with a early-promotion strat for chapter 10. Dark Knight fixes her bulk-issues short-term and gives really nice flexibility until Leo comes in. It's around this point when Heart Seals are a lot less in demand, so she can switch to Adventurer the next opportunity she gets. Leo especially likes thoses bonuses and also thanks to Horse Spirit he can easily pass up Speedwings to Xander and still be really viable for the whole game.

Camilla is got to be one of the best Fire Emblem Units period. Her, Seth, Byleth and the Tellius Trio RD-Ike, Titania and Haar are just on another level. Alot of people say Jakob is a better offensive unit than Felicia and to a degree they're right, but Felicia with flame shuriken is also pretty strong. Flora and Odin are imo in the Reclass-Tier, in the sense on they're at their best when reclassed. (Sorceror/Dark Knight Flora and Swordmaster-Odin are pretty great imo) Also I find it really odd how Niles is the only "real" Bow-User you get. I mean yeah Mozu and yeah you can make Inigo and Severa into Bow-Knights, but it's still weird how you literally only get Niles unless you use non-canon classes. Usually FE at least has 2 canon users of the same weapon.

I'd have to disagree with one thing here. Odin is definitely just as good if not better as a dark mage than he is a samurai. The early game nosferatu value is so massive and the cost of an early heart seal is similarly massive to the point where Odin's just better off staying as a dark mage tank for a while. As for bow units, gen 2 gives you Midori and Nina. I don't think Flora is good enough to even reclass. Deployment isn't as short as it is from like 11-13 by the time you reach 21 or so where she joins, but it's still short enough that you have no reason to deploy her for her bad combat. I'd much rather use her staff rank for what it's worth (even if it is worse than a generic, Niles might be dead if it's an iron man for example) than try to make her combat work when she has bad speed and basically nobody left to marry.

@@lagspike7763 But those are child units, in it's raw-state you just have Niles which is very weird to me. Yeah, I suppose. But "nobody left to marry" would imply she has had a choice outside of Corrin to begin with :^) I have no idea why they made Flora join so late tbh. Just set her a few levels behind and make her join like 2-3 chapters after the Ice Tribe-Stage and give her a few supports that aren't just literally two. It's such a shame how she got shafted because I really liked her Ice-Theme. When I first played Fates years ago, I thought she was supposed to be the counterpart to Rinkah (since she's the rep of the Fire-tribe), but sadly that wasn't the case.

@@VioletLunaChan Dude I wish Shura had more supports too. I think this applies to all the "Corrinsexuals" but they all are well written and interesting. Those are all the characters I want to see more of. I would like to see Shura support with Azura, Saizo, Niles, Leo, Kaze, Mozu (both are the last of their kind so that could be really good) and Azama. Statistically he is really good too. He is really good as a master ninja and can basically do everything Kaze can. Kaze obviously is better but that's really only due to availability. Shura is slept on as a unit. You should try him as a master ninja or bow knight. Or even as an Adventurer since he's still decent there though that's not the most reccomended.

In Awakening iirc there were about 3, not considering the non-canons like Emmeryn and Gangrel. You know I'm actually replaying Conquest right now and I was debating wherever to keep Niles or use Shura as my Bow-User as somehow my Niles ended up with worse stats as base Shura when Niles was/is already a higher level Adventurer. (The only stat he has over Shura is magic, which is kinda meh)

Part of why Fates Conquest is by far my favorite Fire Emblem is just how open ended and fair its lunatic mode is. Its start isn't oppressive like 3 Houses Maddening and the amount of effective builds for units is nuts and far more than 3 Houses terrible class system. Dont get me wrong, 3 houses was a lot of fun but for replays I keep coming back to Fates Conquests because theres just such a large variety of strats to use to clear it. It shows in this tier list were the majority of conquest characters are not just effective but also have a variety of ways to build them.

zerker effie is aton of fun but she can also turn into a stupidly powerful sniper due her frienship with mozu. If anything it gives her quick draw for more damage to stack and just flat out one hit enemies if she is a zerker

i like how peri is consistently one of the best characters in my roster if ever put off the bench. all of my other units somehow just dont do well except the royals, but then peri strolls on in with perfect growths and the ability to beat people senselessly. i made her a master ninja and just basically let her kill everything.

I know this video is a lil old but I hope this still gets seen but I'm planning on playing through Conquest again and this video is really helpful! I struggled a lot and barely managed to beat hard/classic the first time I played and I'm feeling a lot more confident this time around. I think a full on reclassing/heart seal guide could be really helpful because a lot of the combinations you mentioned (Malig Elise, Master Ninja with Sol, going Berserker on some units?) are kind of confusing to people who may not know how to properly reclass or how to allocate those resources. Other newbies like me lol. Just a small suggestion I hope gets picked up, great video overall!

Ah yes, another fellow Gunter enjoyer. I find it pretty hilarious when many people decide to put Gunter in bottom tier when he has so much to offer. As you said, he has godlike utility with amazing pairup stats, shelter, high movement, and potentially thins like flying, lunge, rally def, and savage blow from the wyvern tree. His innate weapon ranks are insanely high (which is important when weapon ranks are notoriously hard to level up in this game) allowing you to use a massive variety of weapons effectively. His bases are quite strong, rivaling the bases of many 15/1 units, and are made even better with elbow room at his disposal. This innate stats and skills as a great knight allow him to contribute major utility and substantial chip damage to the team. All of this ignoring the insane damage that Gunter can inflict by getting early trample. Gunter can comfortably one shot many enemies by skill stacking (including some insane feats like one shoting ch 17 master ninjas with a hand axe), and- if he can acquire a brave axe in the lv 3 weapon shop- he can one round tons of enemies throughout the rest of the game with it. Yeah, Gunter is the most underrated unit in conquest by far imo and can easily function without a heart seal, but he becomes completely insane with one or two under his belt. I would not be too surprised if Gunter rises to become meta defining at some point. Perhaps Gunter would also be a strong choice in a draft race of some kind...

However I will say I don’t know about Gunter on a draft race as a combat unit. You really want units that are safe to use in draft races and as much as Gunter can put in work, there always is the very real possibility of him just dying. I think he’d be a solid pick as a backpack but not much else

Question about Azura, one of her heart seal classes is sky knight, which can learn darting blow and camaraderie. Camaraderie isn’t the best skill, but with how squishy Azura is, is it worth it to level up a lvl 10 Azura into sky knight just to learn the skill then go back to dancer?

It’s really not. If it wasn’t so resource intensive then yeah it could be worth. However, Azura can only even tank one hit in the early game, so to get camaraderie then, you’d have to spend BOTH of your extremely valuable heart seals to get it, and even then, you’re missing out on her valuable singing during that time.

I agree with most of the tier list except 3 things overall : First off i think beruka is low investment , on chapter 10 she doesn't do a whole lot except blocking flyers , she doesn't have the greatest combat but the chapter doesn't allow "optimization" you can't dance her or use her best pair up cause everyone is spread apart and every unit needs to do something then on chapter eleven she has a much easier time with the Rinkah and Kaze rooms she probably has a chance to get killed in both if you rush but if you just bait enemies she's never going to be in danger . Kaze might be scary cause of the debuff she's going to take but a def tonic just before going in might be the way and Rinkah will only be scary if Beruka gets debuffed by the ninja and she's not a good boss killer . The cheve chapter is one where she shines cause Benny will make her invincible and no one will kill her except the mages and Takumi . The opera chapter doesn't have a lot of threatening ennemies except the Kinshi knights pair up who are a bit scary cause they do a lot of damage and are quite fast and the pegasus who has the thunder naginata . Even though the Kinshi knights are a bit scary you can easily get them to attack archers like Mozu and Niles bc of a spot and the third one can be countered by Leo bc of his nice bulk and placing him farther away from the main squad to protect them against the pegasus left . The boat map is a bit scary but if you use her with Benny (as you should) it's impossible to die bc the armor slayer is not that threatening cause he can 2 shot the guy with a Javelin and a concoction might be the only healing he needs . The ninja map is still a bit scary for Beruka cause she gets doubled and every attack will make her lose hp but you probably want to promote her during the opera map or the boat map and Benny can do the same and at this point you can't really get killed except if you throw yourself into a pit of shurikens . Then the Kitsune map where she doesn't give a fuck and she's probably going to be able to have S support with Benny and you can stop using her as she lost her utility and then Ignatus or whatever his name is can be a a wyvern lord with the best defense who cannot get doubled . Beruka is not a God unit , she's never been one but the bait potential that she has and the fact that she doesn't have 4 move makes her really good she is the Silas of mid game who has advantage against the 2 strongest enemy classes : Pegasus knight and Ninja . Promoting her at level 15 is the way to go cause you're not gonna make her an end game contendant and she doesn't need to pass down skill cause Ignatus is gonna get them either way . The second thing was wyvern Elise : i tried it , i think it's extremely decent and gets great when she promotes but the problem is that she doesn't care to be in the class and the job can be done much better by Felicia . Tbh Elise will never be a frontline unit , as a MK i will never put her against more than one physical enemy cause i know that her bulk won't be great , but the point of making her a wyvern is to attack and gain bulk . But between a potential 5 defense and 3 magic 3 speed 3 luck and 3 res i would rather stay in troubadour . There is also the fact that being a wyvern doesn't give her anything except early combat and lunge and the worst is that the thunder axe is obtainable only late ish game making you grind axes up until promotion to not even have the best axe , and when you get the axe you realize it's trash so you end up using a fire tome cause she doesn't need might or crit to kill , so to me i just think that using Felicia is a better choice just because she can do everything at level one and do it better with one more move , plus she gets skills much faster and by the time Elise promotes and turn into MK , Felicia will start to fall off a little making you go invest into your mc . It doesn't discredit Elise for being a good unit cause when Elise is able to fight no one will stop her , it just makes Felicia stand out more to me . The last point is Nyx as a whole , i still think that she's a high investment unit : Nyx has overall the worst early game and is the worst unit in the early game due to the fact that every unit up until now had map design that allowed stat thresholds to be met , the best example Odin with the butlers and a magic tonic and speed tonic can one round every mage except the boss , that's without reclassing your butler , only costing you 300 golds . Niles is crazy and destroys early game so hard can one round mage in his map plus with pair up he can one round the brigands . Effie and Silas is a little bit more convoluted with their but with some pair up and space set ups you can go down to the boss area choke the point and have Effie take 1 or 0 damage from every enemy , Silas is a bit tougher to get to 0 damage . Making it really easy to level Wyvern Elise or MK felicia or your own Corrin , you can also give some kills to Arthur for early promotion . Now Nyx can't double the first enemies with backpack Niles and a speed tonic she can't even get the boost of the meal cause she's not in the army and you don't have permanent boost . The only enemies she can double are the archers but they hit too hard and Odin or Arthur will be much better at killing the 2 at the beginning and then the middle section you need to deal with 2 physical and 1 magical and if you are enfeebled Nyx probably won't KO and get killed in return , then the archers reinforcement are too scary cause you need to deal with so many enemies if you take every reinforcement and of course she is useless against the boss . I also didn't talk about the fact that her luck and dex are so low that she's going to rock 60 hit without a fire tome and she doesn't want to hit at one range cause of counter attacks . She does has utility by putting her against enemies to get more hits on them and attack supports but that's the end of it . For those reasons she seems like the worst unit in the game but the later you are into the game , the better she becomes . Her level ups will include mostly speed and magic and if you don't get those stats then big yikes but that won't happen often or she just doesn't get 1 of the 2 which is fixable by statpiling . By chapter 13 Nyx can double and one round most classes (except Ninjas and pegasus) and she can use Odin as a backpack waiting for Leo . Bc of her very lopsided kit she only needs a fire forge for the hit rate , crit avoid and also she doesn't need a lot of might due to her natural stats . She has a very bad first chapter but she very decent in both chapter 10 and eleven ,12 is where she shines cause of the mechanic of the map making her able to statpile her defense so high that she doesn't get killed by most physical unit on the map and can survive the archers reinforcement and she doesn't stop snowballing , she also makes great use of Leo , while i think that Leo is really good he doesn't compare to her offense , Leo is a mix between Odin and Nyx making him quite bulky and strong at the same time allowing for enemy phase action , she can do some enemy phase tanking but only by statpiling and Elise being around and can only take 1 physical hit or 2 , making a bit of a rotation strat using Nyx to finish off enemies or Leo to bait . She also is one of the 2 early game unit (Mozu the other one) that can come through middle game into endgame that is not royal , the butlers fall off (Felicia not by much but Corrin is the better combat unit) Odin can't do as much if he didn't get investment or a lot of good level up and at the end of the day Ophelia and Elise will be better at combat, Niles can come through because he's very useful but his combat won't be the best making him a rally bot or lockpick on a horse or sub healer , Silas didn't even com through middle game , Effie can't one shot anymore and Arthur was never good unfortunately the only thing that stops her is the bane of magic units : Ninjas and pegasus . While pegasus are less troublesome than Ninjas and easier to deal with , in my opinion they are the second toughest class to deal with bc of the move and when you see them they always have something to make them tough : chapter 10 where they just fly past you , 11 they have 2 range plus a bunch of protection skills and also a lot of res chapter 13 where they can hone in on you especially the reinforcement , the wind tribe chapter and the Hinoka chapter . And ninjas can debuff you , have high res and cannot get double without statpiling and even then you need to be naturally fast . Overall , she's not Camilla or Xander but she can be a very potent endgame unit . Also forgot to add that she can reclass into the bow thief class making her able to get shuriken breaker and with the tome reaver she'll be able to do go up against Ninjas but you need some reclass shenanigans that will cost some money. The main reason nyx is in utility instead of high investment is that you could struggle through her dogshit early game to get an ok late game unit but instead you could just marry her to another magical unit and get 8 magic and some speed. I think that when you weigh those opportunities against each other, the backpacking ends up being more valuable. 2. Beruka is in medium investment because I feel she does best with medium investment. Again, low investment units aren’t necessarily better than medium or high investment units. Laslow is in low investment but I wouldn’t say he’s better than Effie. In the same vein, Beruka is among the higher tier of units because she has easy access to speed backpacks in the form of kaze or Niles. Her early game is solid and flying utility is always a plus, but you can’t just keep her in wyvern forever and expect it to work perfectly. Dipping into berserker to get HP+5 for example will do a lot of dividends for her or going into outlaw to get mov+1 or something of the sort. That’s what makes me put her into mid investment.

I wonder if you ever considered doing a birthright tier list using the same rulings you did for conquest? I’ve been meaning to try out some cool ideas like Kaze with Rinkah as a backpack or Takumi with Setsuna maybe as a backpack or Hana as a attack stance partner. While this might sound really from far left field but what if Hana was a Maid with something like Quick Draw, Vantage, Seal Strength, Live to Serve and Life and Death? I’ve been honestly curious about that idea or would she really want MoA/Swordmaster?

Fates (birthright and revelation specifically) lets you just spend money directly to spawn overworld encounters. It is kinda cool to revisit maps you used to play but yes most games don’t WANT to allow you to grind. Whether you can grind regardless is a different issue entirely

You mention Effie being high investment, when you can get her an S support with Arthur by Chapter 11 (Chapter 10 with a Seed of Trust), costs a near meaningless partner seal, and produce a solid Percy with her. Berserker Effie is remarkably easy to roll with imo. Perhaps I missed what High Investment means, like maybe putting a lot of thought into what you want a unit to do, but she’s so easy to use; you can even swap Percy in to pair with her to replace her near useless husband XD

Investment is not about time or chapters, necessarily, it’s about resources. In the case you just mentioned, we not only gave her deployment on all maps up until 11 (this is not really a big deal at all), but we also gave her a (extremely not meaningless by the way) partner seal (where would you even get a partner seal from at that point in the game, spending 2k on it?), but most importantly, we’re giving her ARTHUR. Arthur is one of the single most contested husbands in all of CQ because of his excellent backpacking stats, and honestly, even if she just needed the Arthur backpack, that would by itself almost put her into high investment because by giving Arthur to effie, you’re saying Arthur is not going to Selena, Beruka, peri, Camilla, Elise if she’s a wyvern, and so on.

@@lagspike7763 You know, I didn’t quite see it like that; to me, I try to use each unit on my roster outside of being saddled in Dual Guard mode and thats my play style. Arthur isn’t as valuable to me because he’d be taking the deployment slot for someone who I want to use more, and once he gives me Percy, he’s usually kicked out. I never quite saw the potential he has to make every one of his wives better in significant ways, and looking past the fact that he could make me reset a map at any given point, he does provide an amazing number of benefits. I still won’t use him, because him getting crit into oblivion would infuriate me, saddling his kid to him wouldn’t feel right, and backpacking isn’t something I like to do, but I do rescind my original comment because I am in fact wrong. In answer to your question though, Sophie’s paralogue (#5) grants a partner seal, and I usually have Silas and Corrin marry, so he can stack Supportive with Vow, and a bunch of other stuff for Sol Ninja. It takes til Chapter 12 iirc for them to marry (Para 1 and Invasion 1 included) but Effie can use that seal to the greatest effect at that time, imo, as Silas still needs to promote and get Sol eventually before Ninja. @@darkstalker696 Look at it this way. Silas is only able to make master ninja work because his personal defense is stupid good. Laslow only has solid personal defense, and if you put him into ninja, the bad class defense it has is going to take him to 8 def/res and a 40% growth in each. That's really really bad, and even though his speed becomes a lot better, he has to survive with E rank shurikens for a while and then eventually go into hero for sol again and it just ends up being too much work for a unit that's going to be mad frail at the end of the day.

In my list I will put Xander top of S mostly because of my First playthrough biased. In my first playthrough I play Fates after Awakening and i highly recommend not doing that. In Awakening basically Chrobin juggernaut is not only viable it's the best strategy. In Fates though........ good luck son. Basicaly the last 5 chapter all my unit are thrash except Xander and Camilla. So what i did is basically I put Xander near enemy and tank like a champ. After that all other unit do the clean up. So yeah Xander is God Tier in my blind playthrough and the only reason i can reach ch 27 of Conquest.

@@lagspike7763 A lot of mistake in my first playthrough came from how those strategy actually viable/work in awakening. 1. I bench Niles early cause archer(Virion) is bad in awakening. 2. I pair up all unit without realising how pair mechanic work. 3. I also never use 2nd seal cause other than Dark Flier Robin. You almost never need to use 2nd seal in Awakening (game are beatable easily with chrobin regarless of 2nd seal). I did learn a bit more on my 2nd playthrough and i must say. Conquest hands down Is probably my 2nd fav and also my 2nd most replayed FE. I mean just imaging trying out new build give me so much Joy.

It's a very powerful class for sure. I'd say that anyone that you put into dread fighter will perform well, but Kaze, Mozu, and Laslow are some of the units that excel in the class.

No problem. A "backpack" unit refers to a unit that is deployed almost exclusively for their pair up bonuses. For example, many players deploy a promoted Keaton because he gives his wife 7 strength 4 speed and 2 defense. He rarely sees combat but is almost always providing value through his pair up. As a result, in that case, Keaton is a "backpack".

Yeah, the full term is "stat backpack." It doesn't necessarily have to be a male and a female; for example, if you have a child unit with a really good pair up, you can get an A support between parent and child and do it that way.

Beruka's issue is that every single stat that matters is fucked except defense. Her HP is bad, her strength is mid at best, her speed is awful, her res doesn't exist but admittedly that's less of an issue. It's just a lot of effort to put into a unit that would serve better as a ferrier for Kaze.

For casual players, turn count doesn't have to be important, sure. But in general, if a unit can help get a map done in a shorter amount of turns that means a lot. You're not playing wrong if you take alot of turns to beat a map. But it does take more skill to try to beat a map without turtling and in a low turn count.

But why does it matter? If you beat ch 24 CQ in 50 turns or 5 turns, what’s the difference? There’s nothing you lose from doing it faster. Turn count shouldn’t matter especially when trying to talk to newer players.

@@lagspike7763 Getting it done faster simply means you did it better. Like if some one took 5 minutes to finish an obstacle course vs. Someone who took 50 minutes to finish the same obstacle course. They both completed the course, but the guy who did it quicker is better at it. Of course in fire emblem, turn count isn't the only factor that matters in better finishing a chapter. Units surviving, side objectives and item management also factor into it as well. But in general it takes smarter planning and efficient use of resources to get a lower turn count. In terms of characters, it's really intuitive. If they can help complete a map faster and require less turns to get good that just makes them better lol. But I do agree for beginners turn count is less meaningful, just beating the game can be hard enough lmao.

Effie in High Investment is an interesting placement. I'd put her in low investment, personally. The only thing holding Effie back is her class. Getting Effie out of Knight through something Mozu friendship lets her be an absolute beast.

She can usually get to Arthur A Mozu B support before Ch.10 if you shoot for it. Which is huge since it means the most investment-heavy aspect for Effie, the supports, are mostly complete before Comquest starts limiting your deployment slots and you really have to think about what units you're going to use.
