i've raced in biathlon at the national level and it is insane! i know all the people in the video personally and they're training is so much more than this. eating healthy during their meals, all this training and maintaining a good sleep schedule is unreal. This sport is the hardest sport ive competed in because of the skiing with such a high heart rate going to trying to get your rate under 80 for shooting. they'll practice just holding the gun in the offhand (standing) position for hours!

Great question! Biathlon is a pretty small community, so donations and support are always appreciated. A good place to start would be at USA Biathlon's website. If you want to support the sport at a more grassroots level, many states have biathlon associations that form the backbone of the community. These independent associations provide opportunities for people to try biathlon as well as putting on races and helping to support developing athletes.

The sport has its origins in an exercise for Norwegian soldiers, as an alternative training for the military. The world's first known ski club, the Trysil Rifle and Ski Club, was formed in Norway in 1861 to promote national defence at the local level.

The US seriously needs Winter Olympics medals in biathlon. Call the Department of the Army, go up to Fort Drum in New York State and recruit team members from the Tenth Mountain Division (winter troops). Problem solved, get the podium ready, unseat the Europeans. Until then, the US can forget it because the Europeans have owned that sport for a long time.
@deadstump4970
@deadstump4970 6 жыл бұрын
Not knocking the Tenth Mountain, but they tend to have a lot more on their plate than just training for shooting and skiing. Plus the shooting they do in the army is quite a bit different than the competition shooting they do on course (not saying that it is fundamentally different, but the techniques used in each area are honed for their specific need... you just would not shoot a military chambered rifle the way the biathetes do, your recoil compensation would be poop). Then there is the skiing. Competitive cross country skiing is fairly far divorced from wilderness cross country skiing and it takes a lot of effort to get as good at either. But you already knew this.

FromTheIsland Different calibers don't have different accuracy statuses. They probably use .22 because it is way more quiet and not as much recoil. You need to get your facts right the caliber doesn't matter its the man behind the gun and also the gun quality.

At 50 yards the wind effect on 22 is about twice as much as a 308. You have to realize the velocity and size of the projectile matter more to stabilizing and preventing drift.
