Here’s my own thoughts on the simile of salt. I think the salt represents god/his spirit. And everyone, at one point of their lifes are offered to come to him, giving meaning to “everyone will be salted with fire”. And salt loosing flavor, well think, what other things make something salty? Well there is none, salt is the only thing that makes things salty. I think this means that God is the only way you can get to heaven, achieving your “saltyness”. So if you fully lose your “saltyness”, then you are shutting out God. But to restore it, it would be by following him and being righteous. And as you retain the salt in yourself, by doing these things, good things will happen to/for you. That’s just my take on it. Long ago they also use salt to preserve meat so could be Commitment, faithfulness and loyalty am also seeing Numbers 18:19

On Mark 9:50, I feel like Jesus is telling us that the idea of Him is great. To say that you want to claim Him his wonderful, but you won't walk in Christ unless you're acting like Him -- i.e. humbly and serving others -- then you are not exemplifying Him for His Glory. You are still walking in flesh and not in faith.
