I was in prayer last night & I asked God to show me what the love between my future partner would look like. I listen to the Bible to gts so when The app opens, it was on Song of Solomon. I’d never read it before or at least that I can remember & listening to it for the first time had me in utter shock. It was so intense & yet still pure and beautiful. I know that God is preparing my husband’s heart to love me like he loves me THATS why it’s taking so long LOL. Nothing or no one can top the Love that God has for us, I’ll wait for it.

I haven't read song of Songs, but I have always asked God every time if I should date a boy that I was interested in at that time, He has always said no, but He recently said Yes finally and He even went on to show me that I shall merry him, it's all so overwhelming that God of the Universe cares about my relationships and what matters to me. Oh and the guy is really handsome and he loves the Lord like I have never seen, He even brings a Bible to our University and reads it whenever he wants, like a Novel🤗.I see him praying every time his eating something. About 6 years before I became a Christian, I was travelling in Indonesia and stayed in a hotel that provided a Bible in the bedside table. If God loves us then why kill every human on earth? Why create hell? Why create sin? Would you burn your children alive for millions of years if they stole an apple from the grocery store? @@SaRENRampaiger let me explain. God is love, God can love us in anyway including sexually (Lustfully), when ever the Bible tells us that it is wrong it only speaks of humans fratinizing outside of marriage, or when already married seeking another partner. However it doesn't say that God cannot love us sexually, in fact it says the opposite. In 1 Corinthians Paul says that the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord(God) and that he believes that women and men are better off without mates as a distraction from the worship of God. Worship throughout the Bible happens to be a very sexual thing in certain instances and God says that we are his bride and that he is the husband. We are to love God with our all including our sexual organs.

WOW! Also, didn't Soloman have like a 1000 wives? I mean, even in this explanation they say it probably wasn't Solomon. I'd put 5 sheckles on it being a teenage scribe that slipped his Penthouse column into the stack of papers that made up the books of the bible. It was first rejected and stashed in some clay pots and thrown into some caves near the Dead Sea. Yes, it was originally one of the "rejected" books of the Bible, AKA: The Dead Sea Scrolls. The plucky lil teen was able to retrieve it though! With quick thinking, he made the world's first Post-It note! Stuck it on top of the Song of Songs pages, saying "Solomon wrote this! God said to put it in the finished product!" And then no more questions were asked forever and ever amen! God loved that boy and thought him a scamp! He then murdered all his family, friends and slaves to teach him a lesson. Pretty sure he also gave him leprosy and made certain *ahem* "body parts" rot off. But the boy still loved God and smiled, knowing his dirty love letters would be known as the word of God for all time. For our God, is an awesome God in space, and Heaven! Jesus added another meaning when he gave us the Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins in Matthew 25. Every year during Passover week the Jews read the Song of Solomon, and likely Jesus gave the Parable on the same day. The wise virgins correspond to SoS chapter 3 and the foolish virgins to chapter 5. While the plain meaning (the "peshat") is one of Jewish love poetry, the illustrative meaning (the pesher) is one of the relationship the Bride of Christ has with Him. There are a lot of little verses of allegorical imagery that is used throughout the Bible. In 1:13 we read, "My beloved is to me a sachet of myrrh that lies between my breasts", myrrh was a burial ointment, and one of the gifts from the Magi to a young Jesus, as they recognized His eventual death and sacrifice. So in this verse, the Bride of Christ keeps Christ's sacrifice closest to her heart. Another one specifically in chapters 3 and 5 is the contrast between the interactions with "the watchman". In Chapter 5, the Bride is beaten by him, which may indicate some form of persecution. One of the lines that is repeated, is "I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, By the gazelles or by the hinds of the field, That you do not arouse or awaken my love Until she pleases.” Which some have speculated is referring to the prophetic revival in Zechariah 13-14, where 1/3 of the Jews will come to Christ. There is just a lot of imagery and references that occur elsewhere in Scripture. I would encourage people to take up research on them because it's a fun study :)

The Bible Project Could you consider a series that answers question people have regarding different topics within the Bible? Examples: If Jesus is God, but He tells us to pray to the Father but then says the only way to the father is through Him, are we wrong to pray to the Father? What’s with the differences between Kings and Chronicles. People (atheist) are using them for weapons against Christians and I think your videos would help arm us to defend ourselves and our God. Is sex before marriage a sin? Everyone points to “sexual immorality” as argument but the Bible spells out so many things explicitly that are sin and it is NEVER addressed directly. Adam and Eve? NOPE they weren’t married. They were made for each other of Adam. If marriage only matters in Gods eyes then who is to say he doesn’t think the first person you have sex with us your partner and all others are adulterous relationships? Can you get divorced then remarry knowing Gods word? Ask for forgiveness and His blessing on your new life if you turn from sin and stay married? You are technically living in sin together until you die. Videos like this and I’m sure a lot of other topics would be AMAZING!! Also...maybe Bible Study later? Book by book in depth study. Not a summary, a study. Thank you!! From a small donor. I’m sorry it isn’t more, but I pray for your success.

Here is the actual background of the Song of Solomon. King Solomon had so many wives and concubines, still he loved one particular woman above all of them. But that woman loved a shepard. However, king Solomon brought her to the palace to take her as his own wife but he did not forced her to become his wife. Solomon tried to entice with his riches and glory and fame so that her mind can be changed. During her stay in the palace the other women of the palace tried to convince her about Solomon. Those women are referred as daughters of Jerusalem. Due to their alluring words, the mind of that woman started to change as she slowly started to forget her original lover the shepard. But the shepard still loved the woman. At end, all those riches, glory of Solomon could not change their love. This is an example of the bride of Christ who will be enticed by the world so that she can forget Christ. But a true bride will not be enticed and will always long to join the Shepard that is our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 second ago Great commentary on the book of Job! I was taken aback that God’s restoration of Job’s losses was not mentioned though. This book also shows how God restored Job double because Job was a righteous man by God's own admission. Individuals struggling with faith and their own suffering need to know that part of the story for encouragement, hope and to know all was not lost. In the end God rewarded Job for his righteousness. Scripture says weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Psalm 30:5 Thank you for what you do!

The 'sexual desire' in Song of Songs might be better described as Erotic (the way the Greeks like Plato meant it) to modern ears, which have been perverted by pseudo-Freudianism, and who typically think of sexuality as relating merely to bodily or baser things. Ancient peoples understood a much wholler idea of sexual eros as one that relates to divine things at its highest capacity, and that the mystical experience is derived from that desire directed to the divine. Hence the Song of Songs has been known throughout Church history as "The Food of Mystics."

Although I was christianed in a warships bell I was never really viewed myself as christian until the day I went to church when I was twenty five and that day stopped a drug habit. I've grown to become sceptical of religion and I think that mostly arrived from media in our society belittling the Christian Jewish doctrines. I am forty now and reading through old testament, I've been very slow and skeptical yet I've chosen my path and reading the old testament has been to me like clearing the obstructions from my view and allowing me to view the world from ancient eyes, true eyes, and gods eyes. I'm glad with everyone who reads the bible and it does take time to understand, and we're all individually viewing gods miracles from different angles, and bless you for allowing understanding and abundance to fill your spirtual life.

I have tremendous respect for The Bible Project and I thank God for them. The summary, as always, was great and very helpful. Thank you. Although I would like to press a point that was mentioned but not very much explored in the video, in case someone wonders "So is it all about earthly marriage, reminding us how things were in the beginning and holding out hope for the future, pointing us to the gift of God's love that will one day permeate and transform His beloved world?" I think the answer is no. My point is twofold: 1) The Song of Solomon is not ultimately about earthly marriage and 2) it is not only for the future but also for the here and now. Jesus said "This is eternal life, that they may know You" (John 17:3). That starts when we receive Him. Also, marriage is an earthly representation of a spiritual reality. Similarly to the Sabbath (Colossians 2, Hebrews 4) or the tabernacle (Hebrews 8), earthly marriage - being a wonderful gift from God - is a pattern, a shadow, a copy of a heavenly reality. Paul makes this astonishingly clear in Ephesians 5:31-32. "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church." Now that is supposed to drop your jaw. A text whose most natural reading speaks about earthly marriage is actually about something infinitely greater. Yes, the Song of Solomon is an amazing book about God's gift of earthly marriage, but please, literally for the love of God, look beyond the immediate meaning. Earthly marriage is a temporal shadow, pointing us to its eternal substance which belongs to Christ. The Song of Solomon is ultimately about Christ and His bride. This is not a secondary meaning, this is the ultimate meaning. Please look through the gift and see the Giver. Please look through God's gift of earthly marriage and see God's gift of Himself. See the greatest gift of the love of God, namely, God Himself. Oh what a book! What a God!

In our traditions we have a love story, of the girl and the young man in the song of songs. We also have a song about it in our language. Solomon was up in the morning and he rode on his horse to see the beauty of his country. He was an admirer of beauty. While he was travelling through a vineyard he saw a beautiful girl. The beautiful girl was from shulem (shulamite) and she was darker in complexion. He proposed to marry her. She rejected his proposal. On thinking that she didn't recognise him, he made clear that he is the king Solomon. He also added that if she accepts his proposal, he may give her the status of the queen among his wives. She still refused him. He couldn't sleep that night by the image of the girl in his mind. In the next morning, he tried to influence her by sending girls who danced around her and praised the glory of Solomon. Again she refused. He then summoned her to his palace and he tried to seduce her by the glory of his palaces and gold. On hearing her rejecting him again king solomon, asked why she is refusing him. The girl began to tell her story. One day the girl was sleeping in the midst of a garden/vineyard and a brutal animal (traditional belief that its a lion) tried to attack her. She screamed for help and tried to run away from it. But the beast fiercely followed her and tries to kill her. Hearing her scream a handsome young man who is a shepherd, leaves all his sheep's behind and comes to her rescue. He fought with the beast and his handsome body become filled with injuries and lost all his beauty. The beast gave him a fatal wound, but he ultimately killed the beast. She took an oath to marry him and will keep her chastity for him. The young man promised her that he will comeback to marry her, after treating for his wounds. The girl ends her story telling Solomon that she is waiting for the young man, who put his life as a ransom for her own life. The king Solomon finds the young man and conducts the marriage of the young man and the girl. The tradition says that night, Solomon sleeps peacefully. But he sees a dream where God is speaking to him, " Solomon, Solomon, do you know what the love of the girl and the young man means?".

There is NO indication in the Song of Songs that it is intended as a metaphor bwn Christ and Church. At the time of writing, there wasn't even a concept of the church as we know it today. The whole idea of interpreting it this way is based on other texts which either describe marriage as symbol of Christ and Church OR which describe God as lover of Israel who is unfaithful. But why on earth would you interpret THIS book based on THOSE texts which are in different books, different contexts and written for different purposes? What makes you think you can take a text from Ephesinas out of context and use is as an interpretative lens for this book? Further problems with this reading include the fact that here in SoS the love of the woman for the man is at least as passionate as the man's, while the rest of the Bible argues that people's love for God is absolutely NOT that passionate (with the exception of final chapters of Revelation - which people at the time of writing the SoS had no idea about), and also, when God speaks of his love for Israel/his people in marriage terms, it is always about him being faithful and Israel being unfaithful (cf. Hosea, Ezekiel) ... why suddenly would SoS describe it differently, if it used the same framework? Also, SoS has as a refrain "do not awaken love until it so desires", which is a warning, indicating there's potential problem with this love (which the woman has for the man), which is totally inconsistent with how God's desired love from us is depicted - nowhere does it say we could have a problem if we decided to love God or something...

Sex is one of the highest expressions of human love. Various Jewish/Christian scriptures suggest that human sexuality is an allegory for the love between God and humanity. For example, Ephesians 5 says that the Church is the bride of Christ, and that the marriage between a man and a woman is an earthly metaphor for this redemptive spiritual marriage. The Old Testament calls people who stray from God adulterous, and accuses them of "whoring after idols." So sex is sacred because of the heavenly reality it represents, it’s not something dirty or shameful like prudes would have you believe. The Song of Songs is an erotic love poem written to illustrate this fact. The writer takes the most powerful, consuming, intense connection we can share with another human and uses it to help us understand the love God has for us. We are naked to him in all ways, and still, he wants us. So I think the book is both literal and allegorical.

My dove, my undefiled is but one; she is the only one of her mother, she is the choice one of her that bare her. The daughters saw her, and blessed her; yea, the queens and the concubines, and they praised her.

If this woman was Solomons true love. Then why did he keep going for more wives? It’s almost like she got away and went with the Shepard since it does say she searches for him or they married but she did not love Solomon and so he kept searching and was never satisfied which is why he ended up with 1000 women on his belt.
