When a person sins, essentially they get into "karmic" debt. Eventually at a time of God's choosing, this debt will have to be repaid, and the person who got into the debt, will have to incur some sort of loss to pay for that karmic debt. The Hebrew word “kaphar” in the Old Testament Bible is translated into English as atonement and it means “to cover.” To cover what? Our "karmic" debts. We have to cover our own debt for our sins according to the old testament. And it's not just animal sacrifices that were used to cover (atone) our debt. One of the offerings brought by a sinner was the korban minchah, which was made up of flour. We also find in the Torah that both incense and monetary donations served to atone for the people. A person can fast and pray as a form of sacrifice as well, like when Jonah saved Nineveh from destruction. When we fast, we are sacrificing the pleasure we get from eating food. Prayers of repentance is sacrificing not only time, but our ego and pride because we have to humble ourselves before the Lord and beg for forgiveness. Repentance is better than a regular animal sacrifice, we sacrifice our animal tendancies to God, it is an inner animal sacrifice. Sacrificing a real animal may cover karmic debt to an extent, but it doesn't break the habits that caused us to sin in the first place, so the cycle of debt and repayment like a never ending hampster wheel. Repentance does more than covering debt, it transform our character to prevent us from incurring more debt by purifying us of unrighteouness. Changing our character internally breaks the cycle of karmic debt creation.

@Justin Schaefer Every part of us is harmful. We are corrupted to the very core of our being. We need to be cleansed and conformed to the image of Christ. Meaning the penalty of sin needs to be atoned for before we can be conformed. As it is now, we all have are in the image of corrupt Adam. There will be a day when the people of God will be conformed, but that day is not yet.

I will go a step further and say I'm not evil either. I didnt say Im perfect. At all. But animal sacrifice and sprinkling blood and the significance of this cleansing. Uh. No Way. I dont care who or when but there is no good/right time for that. Sorry G. Youre mistaken. Again.

@@davidrogers3253 You did not make a claim of being a Christian, but it's evident, to me, that you are not one. To suggest that A) Mankind are not evil, are not in need of redemption and B) that sacrifices were some how wrong tells me as much. Things to consider... is road rage simply a 'mistake'? Is lying to make yourself look better or to get out of just consequences for your own actions simply a 'mistake'? Is wishing to get revenge or wishing evil upon someone simply a 'mistake'. Doing things out of selfish motivations is not making a 'mistake', but is willing evil. Humanity does not simply make 'mistakes' they seek each others harm for selfish gain. No one can be a good person and not understand their own capacity for evil. The issue is, even understanding that capacity can't make you good. It only serves to show how evil our intentions truly are. Think about lustful desire. It is objectifying to women (or men). It is a devaluing of humanity and is evil. Any time we fall short of absolute good, it is evil and inexcusable because we know better. For you to tell me that you do not see the evil in your own heart says to me that you either A) ignore your own evil, B) justify it or C) Have never sought to understand your own motives and intentions. Only when you see your evil can you understand the need or redemption only found in the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Crying right now. Don't know why I'm so emotional right now. I just finished reading my bible, I'm currently on the old testament at the part when people used to sacrifice animals as atonement for sins. And I just appreciate it so much, realizing what God and Jesus Christ has really done for us, making atonement for our sins completely so that we don't have to make these sacrifices anymore for ourselves. I'm out of words. I'm crying out of gratefulness and overwhelmed with the Love that the LORD had shown us at the cross.

I started drinking when I was 16. I would drink at parties, but I also started drinking alone because I was unhappy, and I was in a lot of emotional pain all the time. My mom was very aggressive when I was younger, and my brother hated her and so did I. He started hanging out with shady people, he started failing all his classes, he was never home, and my parents fought all the time. I also ran away several times. I was always trying to figure out a reason as to why I was here or what the purpose of life was. So, I started looking at different philosophies, religions, and beliefs. When I was 18 after I was hungover, I got on my knees and I prayed for the first time. I asked if God was real that he would show me he was real because I couldn’t take it anymore. I was crying when I prayed for this. At that moment I felt a presence come over me like a wind. It was barely noticeable, but it was unlike anything in my life I had experienced up until that point. I was surprised when I felt it and I remember saying “what was that?” after that experience I pretty much forgot what happened and kept partying, until my senior year when I got arrested. After my arrest, my parents lost all their trust in me and I was expelled from high school. I was told never to come back. At that time, I felt afraid and hopeless. That’s when I started looking for God, and I prayed that he would reveal himself in my life and that he would give me signs. My prayers began getting answered so consistently that I couldn’t deny that God was doing something. It was mysterious and compelling. I ended up in Church and started reading the bible hours a day. I stopped hanging out with all my other friends because they were continually getting arrested. I was able to forgive my family and myself and to ask to be forgiven. I noticed how at Church people were judgmental and how they formed cliques but were afraid to be around anyone else different from them. It increased my faith because I realized Jesus was not like that and ever since I was young, I saw people as people regardless of who they were. After a while, it’s like I could see God's presence was in my life and then it felt like he wasn’t, and then he was, and then he wasn’t. One day I woke up and felt more depressed than I ever have in my entire life. I felt like I was dying on the inside. That night I prayed, and I said, God, I don’t see my life five years from now I'm going to die Jesus save me Lord, please save me. I was weeping when I said it and when I asked him to save me, I felt a presence inside of me like a heartbeat, and I felt it once like a pulse, and I said Lord please save me and I felt it again even stronger. It was like radiance. When I woke up the next morning, I had transformed everything felt brand new like I was a kid again. All my fears and all my racing thoughts everything was gone. I looked at my hands, and I said this can’t be real it’s impossible. When I looked at myself in the mirror, I saw a different person. I started praying, and the holy spirit became entirely real to me it was washing over me and inside of me. It was total love and peace, and I heard a voice but not an audible one, it was an inner voice. It said I am with you; I love you, I will never leave you, it’s done it’s finished. That was May 3rd, 2009, and ever since then I’ve followed God, I have seen many things change and many things I know wouldn’t have changed without faith and belief. I know what it’s like to be lost to feel you have no hope. Don’t ever think you’re stuck, or life can’t change because it can. My mom is a Christian now, Its night and day. Some of the things that went away during that period were severe anxiety and my addiction to alcohol. I’ve seen and experienced so many things that are miraculous and seen how God has worked in my life. When we ask God to forgive us for what we’ve done and turn away from our sins and wrongdoings and we believe in Christ's sacrifice everything changes. His word says if we confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that he died and rose again we will have eternal life but not just life after death but abundant life in the present. Our sins are erased not only past, present, and future but our burdens and fears are lifted also. Our thoughts, our minds, our hearts, our souls are transformed and united with God and we know his spirit lives in us. If you seek, pray, and knock you will know JESUS IS KING!!! HE LIVES!

I can gather from your comment that you are interested and searching for God because you know he is real and you want to know him for yourself. There's an empty void in you & me because we disobeyed God that God has already determined to be filled with him and he's allowing us to leave it empty or be filled with him. You have free will to choose him or reject him. God has come down personally to earth as a human named Jesus to search for you, reveal himself to you, instruct you, declare his love for you and prove his love for you. God has left written evidence of his existence(the bible), regarding what he has done and what he will do. Nature also confirms God's existence just through mere observation. Please read & study the whole bible and you will conclude that God is not as you have described him. But here's the sobering thought Mr. Johnson, even if God were as you falsely described him (We know he is not), you & I would still need Jesus according to your description. You can not find anything or anyone to permanently remove your sins other than Jesus. You can't remove your own sins by yourself. God has provided Jesus as the atoning sacrifice for all our sins. Do not reject Jesus, he's the only sacrifice God will accept to cleanse you & me of all sins according to Isaiah 53 & the book of Hebrews God loves us that much. Recently I learned that the Eastern Church, unlike the Western church, views sin as a fatal disease rather than as a legal crime that demands execution. So this disease of ours and its resulting death is the great flaw in our corrupted nature, not legal indebtedness to God and threat of punishment. “Salvation” isn’t someone covering our sin debt to God so we can avoid punishment. Salvation is healing us and saving us from our wretched condition. Christ is the great Physician who comes to heal human nature, which he does in several ways. All of humanity is united to God in the incarnation of Christ, because he has united a divine and human nature within himself. The same way Adam’s connection to humanity infected the whole world with sin, Christ’s connection has infected the whole human nature with healing. Passing through this life, he heals and dignifies every element of human nature, even down to suffering and oppression, by remaining sinless and in full submission to God through it all. Through dying he invades Hades (world of the dead), he rescues the dead, and then destroys death from the inside. He comes back up having fully conquered the grave, leading a host of captives in his wake. This is how Christ saves us, how he restores the image of God in us, defeating both the source of sin (the corrupted human heart) and the result of sin (death). ••• “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.” Hebrews 2:14-16 “I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.” Revelation 1:18 “He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.” Ephesians 4:10 “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.” Psalms 139:7-8

This is my first day experiencing your videos and I must say; they are awesome, not only for myself but for every Christian or non-believe out there. I’m thrilled because I can share them with my 8 year Step Grand daughter. In the last weeks, I have seen how happy she is after returning home from Bible School which was always negative. She used to hate going to Bible class but now she loves it, and she’s going to love the classes even more now, after I introduce her to your videos. I’m 65 years old and I’ve been reading the Bible since I was a kid but that doesn’t mean I know everything there is to know about the Bible. There’s a lot I don’t know and there’s even more I would love to learn and know. Our God is an amazing God, and I have a hunger for his Word in me that’s constantly craving for more. The more I read, the more I thirst. That’s why Jesus said ‘ I am the bread of life’. Thank you very much for all your beautiful and inspiring videos. I’m going to keep sharing them, for I know that they will be a great inspiration to those seeking his forgiveness, love, mercy, and wisdom. May the Lord Jesus bless you and your families, and all those watching and sharing your videos.

It's an interesting video, but it's not accurate. Sin is essenntially karmic debt. So when you get in debt you have to pay it off, or else at a future point, seed of sin would fruit, and you would incure a loss in the future either a financial loss, loss of life, loss of family members etc.... Sacrifice were not always in blood. God accepted monetary donations to the poor, wheat, and incense as a sin offering. The reason animals were the typical sacrifice is because they were the most valuable resrouce for the common man during that era. Sacrificing your sheep meant you no longer had wool. Sacrificing a chicken meant no more eggs. Sacrificing a cow meant no more milk. It was a huge loss / blow to the family. But the debt is paid up front is less, because seeds over time grow, like debt that has interest on it, and the debt grows. So it's better to pay sooner rather than later. But God also accepted fasting and repentance which are forms of sacrifice as well. You are sacrificng the pleasure of eating, and showing mercy to the plant and animal kingdom by not eating for a time, and according to the bible mercy trumps the laws of justice (James 2:13 ). And with repentance we sacrifice our pride / ego to humble ourselves to beg God for forgiveness. But it is a lie that the church teaches that God requires blood for atonment / forgiveness.

@@adim00lahActually, if you are attempting to understand through the intellect what can only be discerned through the Spirit, you will never know anything. SIN as spoken about in any ancient manuscript has nothing to do with karmic debt, as that is a non-existent creation of man's ignorance. Man's belief in duality(good and evil)! SIN is anything we choose that keeps us from living in truth. S......Self I.......Indulged N.....Nuisances What is truth?? Well, that's actually quite simple if one's Conscious Activity is that of Infinite Omnipresence!! Yes, God IS Omnipresent, Omnipotent, Omniscient, Infinite Consciousness. What we are witnessing here on Earth is nothing more than the Illusory Entertaining of Two Powers(good and evil) through Collective Consciousness. Jesus, Buddha, and all the great Mystics have made it perfectly clear to the Consciousness that is able to acknowledge it, and that is Matter is Illusory, and God is the True Self!! I Live and Have My Being in God Consciousness!!!

I was looking for a strong summary of the Old Testament sacrificial system. Thank you for providing an answer to that search!
@mothernature17554 жыл бұрын
This actually isnt exactly correct. The sacrifice didnt by itself atone for the sins of the person. A person could repent without a sacrifice at all, actually. Except when they did something so bad, like murdering, then they had to be put to death. The lamb was more like an offering to god to show you have repented rather than the atonement itself. And this is why god says that the lamb should be without blemeshes. The person has to devout time and effort and resources to taking care of the lamb. And the ritual took time and effort. The blood is sort of the cherry on top. One could in principal atone for their sins by simply repenting if they could not make the sacrifice (like when the temples were destroyed) so yea. The idea of total depravity is actually a later christian invention by paul and not in fact found in the old testament. It was paul's personal theology. We dont even know if jesus himself believed it.
@PhazonOmega4 жыл бұрын
@@mothernature1755 Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness. This theme is throughout the Bible, Oldand New Testament. For example, when the priestly garments used in sacrifices were first made, God told Moses that they were not pure and holy until sprinkled with sacrificial blood. I recommend you study this topic again.
@mothernature17554 жыл бұрын
@@PhazonOmega the blood was for consecration not purity. It didnt take away their sin. It made them sacres and holy, since they were priests. It was a ceremonial. The blood didnt have any magical powers. The killing of the bull was to honor the lord and the honoring is what alowed a person to attone for sin. If a person was in a situation where they could not make a sacrifice, they could still attone for sin.

@@PhazonOmega Exactly!!!
@robosterlund27663 жыл бұрын
@@mothernature1755 You're right, the blood of the lamb wasn't in and of itself magical. The priests did need to go to extra lengths to be in God's presence. Ultimately, all the people needed / need atonement. It was God's response to that sacrifice and symbolism that gave it power. It temporarily covered the sin. It didn't in itself atone for that sin but the blood and the qualifications of the lamb pointed to the Lamb of God - Jesus, whose blood does fully atone for our sin. Repentance is our part, but will never make us right with God without applying the blood of Christ. In other words, we are incapable of making our own forgiveness, no matter how hard we try. It's the free gift of God lest anyone should boast (Eph 2:8,9). That's the good news and the bad news. The good news is it's free and God does the work, the bad is that insisting we can get to God through another means than God's design is like Aaron's sons making strange fires to the Lord. In effect, in modern vernacular, giving God the finger and saying "I can decide how this is going to work. Thanks for the Jesus thing but I'll do it my way."

Based on what you claimed your philosophy of evangelism is with these resources, I would have to strongly recommend you change "Jesus believed he was fulfilling," to "Jesus claimed (or asserted) he was fulfilling." The word "belief" has a lot of luggage attached to it in our culture. Jesus made an assertion about Himself and what He was doing. He never said He "believed" it, but that He knew it. So if you are trying to maintain a neutral historical perspective for the sake of the curious non-believers, I can respect that, but it would be far more appropriate to affirm that Jesus asserted these things about Himself as being true with no doubt in His mind whatsoever.

What Jesus believed completely trumps what the world believes. Jesus believed solely in the Father and did whatever the Father said. Jesus believed wholeheartedly in the fulfillment. He prophesied numerous times to His disciples where He was going and what He was going to do for Gods children. We as human beings can only hope and wish that we believe as Jesus believed, not as the world believes. We have no idea how He believed in His Fathers work. We will only find out when we get to heaven.

I also learned about how animal blood represents life, and the sprinkling of it symbolizes how God is cleansing the evil in communities. Jesus being described as the "perfect sacrifice" shows how he died to pay the debt that we owe to God because we contributed to spreading evil and sin.

Thank you. Texas #2. Watching, listening again. Our loving Jesus Christ gave us a perfect example. Concepts of LOVE and JUSTICE are complicated though and we haven’t made a good effort to understand and practice them. We always look for the easy way. As easy as they are to talk about…understanding and practice, well, are more difficult. Tim and Jon try to help us understand. Now, we have to do our part, understand and PRACTICE. You can also mention the reason animal sacrifice began comes from Genesis, in the Garden of Eden, when God covered the nakedness of Adam and Eve, after they ate the fruit. Genesis 3:21 shows God making clothing from skins, meaning an animal had to die to cover the nakedness (sins) of Adam and Eve. It would suggest that this is the first thing God did to save them from the edict, "you shall surely die." It's after this that Adam and Eve receive their punishment of expulsion from the Garden. Therefore, afterward, they reenacted the animal sacrifice to remember their deed and seek repentance.
@mvmlego12127 жыл бұрын
I don't see nakedness as being a symbol of sin. Adam and Eve were naked before the Fall, so being naked couldn't have been sinful. Also,, at least a few of the prophets preached publicly while naked, which would be a very strange thing for them to do if nakedness was a symbol of sin. Furthermore, nudity was commonplace throughout the ancient world. Manual labor was often done naked, and circumcision would be a strange choice of the sign of the covenant if no one was supposed to see that sign.
@dinopad107 жыл бұрын
mvmlego1212 You're missing the metaphor. Nakedness itself isn't sinful, but notice the first thing Adam and Eve were ashamed of when God was looking for them after they ate the fruit. Adam said they were hiding from God because they were naked, and God asked "who told you you were naked?" At which point God surmised they had disobeyed Him. The point is, God covered their shame and guilt with animal skins, thereby covering their sin with an animal sacrifice. So, if you want to split hairs, we can replace sin with shame, as a symbol of nakedness. As far as prophets preaching while naked, that a whole separate issue. It doesn't connect at all to the nakedness of Adam and Eve. Why you think it applies only shows you don't understand the point. In other contexts, nakedness can symbolize freedom, sexuality, vulnerability, innocence, youth... the list goes on. In the context of Genesis and the fall of man, nakedness specifically symbolizes sin. It's pretty obvious. Why you'd argue otherwise is petty, at best.

The eating of the fruit from the tree of knowledge is representing that they were growing up..evolving... Learning.. And honestly a sin is a wrongdoing.. But without it.. One does not learn.. Or grow..or correct themselves. So I believe that it is thru our curiosity and wonderment is where we learn.. Just like a child does. So Jesus came to help us..to teach us..to break the old laws and ways and put forth new.. That's why he is returning ..to those who need to see this.. I believe Jesus has incarnated many many times since then and continues to help us grow..learn and teach. To focus on His death and to believe He died for our sins is actually viewed to some as being rather unfair... How can a just God make a way or a theme for people to follow that involves killing of another as being a form of righteousness? Rather understanding and justifying one another is perhaps a brighter path. I believe that God made many ways to Heaven.. To the Kingdom.. As many ways as there are people on earth.. And even beyond.. For the Kingdom of Heaven is within.. And Jesus is one of the ways... But there are more.. A Just God would have this be as so.. For I cannot Fathom a Good and Loving God would exclude a different set of Belief Systems if The Belief Systems were positive and Beneficial. I also like to take into consideration as to how a child would view something. It is most quite confusing to a young child to be shown a man bloodied on a cross... And then singing.. And then told this is his body and eat it.. And then told this is my blood..drink it. So to a young child.. This might sound very scary and just awful! I'm sorry if I offend anyone.. I am only being honest as I grew up Catholic.. Changed to Born again Christian.. And now I believe in the Spiritual Movement and the uplift or Ascension.. The Raising of The Christ Consciousness. Much Love and Light and Many Blessings to You in Your Journeys!!!

This is one perfect sacrifice and it persists. And at 5:32 you say that the followers of Christ take the bread and wine ... to remember (to be sure) ... but also to participatecommanded in John 6. @Julian Clarke Black people are not the “true Jews,” that claim is easily debunked by Numbers 12 when Miriam is racist to Moses’ black wife and God punishes her with ultra-white leprosy. Miriam, a Jewish woman, couldn’t have been racist to a black woman unless Miriam herself was NOT black. The reason that God even had a chosen people was so that he could bring his blessing to all the nations through them. That blessing, the Christ, has come. *“And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.” Isaiah 49:6* *“Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath made BOTH ONE, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain ONE NEW MAN, so making peace; And that he might reconcile BOTH unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. I absolutely love your videos and devotionals on the Bible app! It REALLY HELPS break the Bible down into stories and categories that make sense and connect passages and books in ways i never would have figured out on my own. May God continue to bless this ministry and all who participate in it!!

I appreciate this channel so much and how it’s truly not white washed. Not that that even matters really but man is it refreshing

Exactly! Its a pet peeve of mine when other white people (like myself) feel the need to portray Israel as white. They aren't and it always makes it seem like it was somehow a bad thing. Like you said, it doesn't matter but it is really nice to see
@malikseifullah58283 жыл бұрын
You don't have to apologize by saying not that it matters much. That is an important thing and you are right to feel that way sister. But like you said Praise be to God that they don't white wash it👍

I'm glad it met the standard. :-) I'm in a majority white church with sadly little diversity, and we whitewash without realizing it. From time with a melinated church friend with children my kids age, hearing the questions his children bring up is surprising and heartbreaking. So I've started also appreciating more accurate portrayals. The kids notice inaccuracies and start deducing bad things from it.

@@atrowell THAT is the sad, and Bad part, of most churches today. What it is doing to our children, and grandchildren.

I greatly appreciate it as well. I am mostly white and I was always taught growing up that Jesus and the Israelites WERE NOT WHITE. So I always felt uncomfortable with those very European portrayals of Jesus and the Jews.

Great job on the video! This helped me learn more about what purification is. I was able to learn more about the ritual and it cleans evil from the community. I also learned more about how this filled the temple in the land with peace. I find it interesting how much grace the Israelites were given from it.

This video is incredible! Animation wise i absolutely love it in how creative and beautiful it is and how you can show what your talking about instead of just saying it. So great work! Jesus is amazing, his sacrifice changes us and makes us want to not sin, an animal could never really do that for long because animals don't really have any morality or something that would make us sorry every time we sin. But Jesus is a man, who was God, and he was perfect. He was the greatest person on the planet who loved everyone and did many miraculous things! Yet he died because of OUR sin, if that doesn't make someone repent and feel bad for what they've done, then i don't know what will.

Hey guys this an amazing video to answer why Christians don't perform animal sacrifice. My question to you is where does repentance fit in the atonement process?
@bibleproject8 жыл бұрын
Hi Chavron. This is a great question. You can do a search on BibleGateway.com for the times "repent" or "repentance" appears in the NT. John the Baptist and Jesus discussed repentance has necessary to acknowledging and participating in the Kingdom of God and tied it directly to the forgiveness of sins. In Acts, baptism was often associated with repentance. Lots of good stuff. Dig in!

Question, why is it moral to sacrifice someone or something else for your sins? Aren't you responsible for your own actions?

+Alex Bensen you need a clean cloth to wipe away dirt and grime. A dirty rag would only add to and spread around dirt. So it is the same with our sins and Gods riteousness. As for personal responsibility, it's up to us to admit we are sinners and let God wash us up and give us clean robes.
