In Leviticus, God invites Israel to live in close proximity to His holy presence. Which seems awesome, but it’s actually dangerous. This book explores how the sacrificial rituals and purity practices cleared the way for morally corrupt Israelites to become God’s covenant partners.

The general rule of thumb is not to eat birds that only eat meat, (IE, chickens are okay, hawks and vultures are not) Don't eat mammals that don't eat grass, they should have four legs, and that dont have a divided hoof. (IE, cows eat grass, and divide my the hoof and are okay, a pigs and goats don't eat grass but divides the hoof so it is impure) Just avoid the reptiles and bugs, the are the things that creep on the earth. I think turtles might be okay but I'd say just avoid them. And fish should look like fish, so the fins, scales, and all that basic fish stuff. So no crab, shrimp, eel. Eating these things will make you unclean and then you have to preform a ritual to cleanse yourself or you may bring disease (leprosy) or Evils to the holy land. And for all animals you must drain there blood back to the earth, blood is life and it shouldn't be eaten, you can't eat dead animals, and the first born of the live stock and plant feilds is to be given to God after the plague God sent killed all the first borns of Egypt to get the King to free the Jews. And you can eat just about any plant on the earth as long as it isn't poisonous, you can freely grow food, you can drink just about anything as long as you don't give in to alcoholism, eat eggs, ect. Lastly there is that you should leave a part of your fields harvested for the poor, the widow, and the stranger, and when it comes time to do sacrifices you need to give the prize of your flock, you can't just give God a goat, or a tumor riddles calf. And for the poor that can't afford these animals from a farm, they have the option to catch birds to sacrifice, i can't remember the breeds. There are other sacrifices like when you must bring a tribute for a child being born, or a sacrifice after you have been cleansed for being unclean. Not doing these things aren't as bad as breaking the 10 commandments, since they have rituals to clean themselves, so they aren't technically sinful, but it is unholy for the holy people to be unclean. Like with circumcision, technically it's not a sin to be uncircumcised, but it's expected for the Holy People of God to be circumcised as a sign to God that you are one of his people that are to be following these strict rules. These strict rules are important not only because of how stubborn the hebrews were during there time coming to the holy land, but becuase they are dwelling in the HOLY LAND and are HOLY PEOPLE, choosen by God himself to inherit this land by there father Abraham. He has eyes on the Isreal, and is the don't do right it will be destroyed. I could go on and on with the Blessing of God to Israel, but basically that's the jist of the food rules and why they are there in the old testament.

Leviticus is one of the toughest reads for me, but the bible Project reaaally helps me to better understand the word of the Lord🤩 As of 7/1/23 I needed to revisit this post to express my gratitude to so many who have come alongside this message because you are all for advancing the kingdom of heaven! Hallelujah!! And I also corrected the word "interpret" with "understand." This is all for the glory of God, in Jesus name!🙌🏽🥳 Amen!

👋 Hello, I just wanted to share an idea with you. As you read, remember to look for God's attitude toward sin. It requires so much blood to atone for man. This points to Christ, the Lamb of God. Also, think about how God demands mindfulness of Him in everything we do, even eating. Think about communion. Compare the sin offering law to the last supper and prepare to fall on your face in worship! In Christ, Jones

@@coryjones8473 Hello, fellow believer and brother in Christ! Thank you for sharing ur insight. It was taken with consideration and acceptance. When I read Leviticus, so much stuck out to me. The process of preparing the tabernacle was one. The thorough outline on what was deemed clean and unclean was a lot to absorb. When I think of all the criteria that needed to be met in order to deem something clean..I also think of my myself, my temple, and what I consume and come in contact with, what I say..the words that flow from my mouth, my actions, my thoughts and my intentions..and whether the Lord would deem them clean or unclean. Sure, I'm human and I have faults, but this process of making something that was once unclean to become clean again also reassures me that I can be made the same. Especially at a time like now, that message resonated with me. Now, Jesus sits on the right hand side of God, interceding our every prayer, in His name. The tabernacle exists for us today! I'm so grateful that Jesus made it so we don't have to go through that strenuous process in order to be in the presence of the Lord. He'll find us right where we are. Bountiful blessings!

they didn't have butchers, slaughterhouses or factory farming in the day. meat eating was rare. there was still a strong debate going on about it among the israelites (as today). the sacrifice system is contradictory, morally offensive and an uncomfortable middle/compromise. there are also in the bible many clear statements that this is not good behavior and that meat is not food. but even with this system, Israelites were in a much better moral place than today IMO.

The Scapegoat in 5:11 got me in my feels. I was the Scapegoat in my Dysfunctional Narcissistic Family household. Scapegoats carry the families shame because they won’t carry it themselves. I believe God allows it because we are strong enough to bear and transform it. The scapegoat is usually the one that “wakes up” and reaches out to God. So beautiful to see the connection.

I do agree with Carlos, though, in that you’re reading too much of your experience onto the original scapegoat. The original scapegoats in ancient Israel’s day were FOREVER cast out of God’s presence. There is no redemption for it. As believers, we ARE redeemed and brought in…forever.

Jesus could have gone anywhere before the cross. So why did he go to the garden? He played the role of the goat symbolically taking away the sins of the city. The garden lies directly in the path of the gate leading from the temple and where the goat would walk out into the wilderness and die from its mortal wound. Jesus was symbolically taking away the sins of the world. I bet his disciples looked back on it and were blown away.

Lescouflair Humans are apes. Darwin lived a long time ago when less was known about the fossil record. What darwin said or didn't say over a hundred years ago is not crucial to evolutionary theory. To say the "big bang" created perfect order is crazy. The theory is that properties of physics were set (created) from the big bang, and some order is a result of physical laws that are mostly unchanging. There is a lot of violent chaos in the universe. There is violent chaos here on earth, not anything like perfect order.

I was trying to control my body during that time and keeping a presence of mind thinking that maybe I just ate or drank something awfull. But while I was experiencing all of this, I felt relaxed like I was floating in air or laying down on a cloud bed. Brothers, the Lord showed me 2 months ago, an extraordinary vision, regarding the DAY OF THE LORD. I saw myself outside, among the people, and suddenly, an immense light, which encompassed everything, coming from above, of an unimaginable force and power, hit us unexpectedly. At that moment, I didn't have time for anything, I just managed to shout: OH MY GOD! I woke up instantly, and I heard a voice in my head (I knew it was the Lord), which told me: GOAL! And then I told him, remembering that in the BIBLE, it is written that the Lord's Day is a day of great auspiciousness, as it has never been before and will never be again, and I asked Him if this is what we must do, when we see this light. The LORD answered me that that LIGHT is HIM and that our GOAL from that moment, for salvation, is to CRY FOR HIM!! What I can tell you, after this experience, is that the ONLY thing we need is FAITH in the LORD. Believe me, nothing will save us on that day, except HIM! Glory to our Lord! AMEN!

I like how Dr. JBP interprets "sacrifice" in a psychological context -- the sacrifice is the part of us that we value but have to let go to live a fuller and more meaningful life, like the tendency to waste time on games instead of using that time to learn a new skill. It's a bargain we make with God, or the future, so that it may turn out favorably for us. So whenever I want to do random stuff instead of practicing the instrument / studying, I think of this and is resolute.

Introduction to Leviticus Sketch I. The Way of Access to God: The Atonement (1: 1-16: 34) A. By sacrifices (1: 1-7: 38) 1. The holocaust (1: 1-17) 2. The grain offering (2: 1-16) 3. The peace offering (3: 1-17) 4. The unintentional sin offering (4: 1-5: 13) 5. The guilt offering (5: 14-6: 7) 6. The continual burnt offering and the offerings of the priests (6: 8-23) 7. The disposition of the victim in the sin offering, the trespass offering, and the peace offering (6: 24-7: 27) 8. The wave offering and summary of the offerings (7: 28-38) B. Through priestly intercession (8: 1-10: 20) C. By the laws of purification (11: 1-15: 33) D. Through the Day of Atonement each year (16: 1-34) II. The Way of Living for God: Holiness (7: 1-27: 34) A. Through the revelation about the blood (17: 1-16) B. By moral standards (18: 1-22: 33) C. Through ordained worship (23: 1-24: 23) D. Through the laws of reparation, obedience, and consecration (25: 1-27: 34) Author: Moses Theme: Holiness Date: 1445-1405 BC Background: Leviticus is closely related to the book of Exodus. Exodus records the way in which the Israelites were liberated from Egypt, received God's law, and built the tabernacle according to the model given by God: it concludes with the coming of the Holy One to dwell in the newly established tabernacle (Ex 40:34). Leviticus contains the instructions that God gave Moses during the two months between the completion of the tabernacle (Ex 40:17) and Israel's departure from Mount Sinai (Num 10:11). This title "Leviticus" is not derived from the Hebrew Bible, but from the Greek and Latin versions. This title might lead some to believe that the book deals only with the Levitical priests. However, this is not the case, as much of the book relates to all of Israel. Leviticus is the third book of Moses. More than fifty times he claims that they contain God's direct words and revelation to Moses for Israel, which Moses later recorded in writing. Jesus refers to a passage in Leviticus and attributes it to Moses (Mark 1:44). The apostle Paul refers to a passage in this book by saying, "Moses writes like this." (Ro 10: 5). One must reject the integrity of the biblical testimony to attribute Leviticus to a later editor as some critics do (see introduction to Exodus). Purpose: Leviticus was written to instruct the Israelites and their priestly mediators about their access to God through the atoning blood and to clarify the standard that God has established for His chosen people to lead holy lives. Overview: First of all, Leviticus presents two very important themes: the atonement and the holiness. (A) Chs. 1-16 contain God's provision for redemption from sin and the separation between God and humanity that has resulted from sin. Variations of the verb "atone" (Heb. Kafar) occur forty-eight times in Leviticus; he noun "atonement" occurs three times. The main meaning of the verb is "to cover, to make a cover". The OT blood sacrifices (chs. 1-7) were temporary blood coverings for sin (cf. Heb 10: 4) until the time when Jesus Christ would die as the perfect sacrifice to "take away the sin of the world" (cf. Jn 1:29; Ro 3:25; Heb 10: 11-12). The Levitical priests (chs. 8-10) prefigure the mediating ministry of Christ, while the day of atonement (ch. 16) prefigures the crucifixion. (B) Chs. 17-27 present a series of practical norms by which God called his people to purity and holy life. God's recurring commandment is: "You shall be holy, for holy am I the Lord your God" (e.g., 19: 2; 20: 7,26). In Hebrew the words translated "holy" occur over a hundred times, and when applied to humans they denote lives of purity and obedience. Holiness is expressed in ceremonies (ch. 17) and worship (chs. 23-25), but especially in matters of daily life (chs. 18-22). Leviticus ends with an exhortation from Moses (ch. 26) and instruction regarding certain special vows (ch. 27). Special Features: Four main aspects or emphases characterize Leviticus. (1) Revelation as the direct word of God is emphasized more in Leviticus than in any other book in the Bible. No less than thirty-eight times it is explicitly stated that the Lord spoke to Moses. (2) Instructions regarding the sacrificial system and the atonement are given in minute detail in this book. (3) Ch. 16 is the main atonement given in minute detail in this book. (3) Ch. 16 is the main one in the Bible that describes the Day of Atonement. (4) Leviticus emphasizes the theme that the people of Israel should fulfill their priestly calling by leading lives of spiritual and moral purity, keeping separate from other nations in it, and remaining obedient to God. Fulfillment in the New Testament: Because of the double emphasis on blood atonement and holiness, this book has an enduring validity for believers under the new covenant. The NT teaches that the atoning blood of sacrificed animals was prominently "a shadow of the good things to come" (Heb 10: 1) and pointed to Christ's sacrifice, once for all, for sin (Heb 9:12) . The Levitical commandment, to be Holy it can be fully realized through the precious blood of Christ in the believer under the new covenant, whose call is to be holy in all aspects of life (1P 1:15). The second great commandment that Jesus declared was derived from Lev 19:18, which says, "Love your neighbor as yourself" (Mt 22:39).

Please ignore these 3rd grade interpretations of scripture. The Bible was never meant to be taking literally or as historical fact. It is a psychological drama. These books were not meant for the masses only for the initiate, and we can clearly see why. The way the uninitiated reads the Bible causes confusion and war. And now cartoons that will continue the tradition of missing the mark(sinning). Begin to view the books of the Bible as psychological dramas that happen with in the gods or “I Am”. Learn that the only god man has known is the human imagination or consciousness as we call it in today’s modern world. Even the character Jesus told the people “ye are God’s, but you’ll perish as men” and the lack of proper interpretation is why we will perish as man instead of mankind awakened as god. God’s name is “I Am”, you say “I Am”. Humanity makes up the Elohim. I was raised in a traditional Christian church and they’re still preaching the same none sense. That has never helped anyone, claiming to have the one true god. God is within no organization has the true god, this is childish thinking. Go within the silence, commune with god, cut out the middleman. stop with the fairy tales, you’ll get nothing out of it but confusion and frustration. You’ll need church groups and these types of videos to reprogram you. Even though your experience shows you this interpretation can’t be true. The god of the scriptures and all the characters are within humanity, step away from the senses(ego) and you’ll see true miracles and the true teaching of what the character Jesus was trying give in the stories.

JESUS IS THE GOLDEN CALF!!!! TO TRICK ALL THE NATIONS INTO WORSHIPPING A NON-GOD!!!!!!! The Tree of Life is the Torah, which was revealed by God and IS THE Revealed will of God. Yes, Israel sinned and had to suffer exile and death like adam and eve, but as the TORAH DOES SAY (all over! in fact, it is the central theme of the bible!): Israel will one day repent and come back to God and continue to serve God according to the Torah WHICH CAN NEVER CHANGE!!!! (as stated EXPLICITLY ALL OVER!). The Torah is THE TREE OF LIFE as stated ALL OVER THE BIBLE! One day Israel and all of Man will return to God according to the Torah and eat from tree of Life and LIVE FOREVER BASKING IN THE DIVINE ENERGY OF GOD!!!!!!!!! The bible DOES NOT SAY ANYWHERE about some random guy dying on a tree and being the new tree of life. That is TOTALLY MADE UP!! LIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Golden Calf to trick the nations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Follow the TORAH - the revealed will of God (which EXPLCITY STATES that it will never be annulled) - THAT IS THE TRUE TREE OF LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not some MADE UP LIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The clean and unclean parts of Leviticus aren’t just symbolic things or moral things They are literally instructions that God gave to Israel on how to be clean and to avoid being dirty For example he often tells them not to touch the dead bodies of animals in doing this you wouldn’t just be symbolically clean but you would literally be cleaner than some one who did touch a dead body “Every animal that parts the hoof but is not cloven-footed or does not chew the cud is unclean to you. Everyone who touches them shall be unclean. And all that walk on their paws, among the animals that go on all fours, are unclean to you. Whoever touches their carcass shall be unclean until the evening, and he who carries their carcass shall wash his clothes and be unclean until the evening; they are unclean to you.” ‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭11‬:‭26‬-‭28‬ ‭ESV‬‬
