My husband and I are experiencing this “good life” reality, now in our sixties. We are much less prosperous in the eyes of modern western culture, but much more rich because of the “how” that has changed in our lives. It’s so cool.

In case you still don't get the difference between being "blessed" and "having the good life," I think what Tim and John are trying to say is: We generally look at the Beatitudes as Jesus saying people living unfortunate lives will be blessed by God; that He'll right the wrongs done to these people. Tim and John are saying that generally understanding is not what Jesus is saying. Jesus is trying to say that people who are living "unfortunate lives" are actually living the good life. Jesus is trying to use the Beatitudes to change what we think a life well lived means. At least that's what I think 😅😅😅🤷🏽‍♀️.

After listening to your conversation regarding divorce, I realized how important this type of discussion is for my well-being. For me, listening to your podcast satisfies 1 John 1:3 "... our fellowship is with the Father and his Son Jesus Christ." (1 John 1:3) Fellowship is extremely hard to come by. Thank you so much!

Zacchaeus' paying those back whom he cheated, above and beyond what he stole from them, is a law from the Torah. ☺️ It is how God commanded his people to right their wrongs with their brothers, if they had sinned against another person. And this is another Testament as to why I prefer to follow the Torah, not the modern Jewish laws.... But the scriptural Torah. Because there is so much wisdom in the way that God teaches us how to love one another with this instructional book, so that we are constantly building good relationships with God and others! The laws that God gives to Moses help fulfill the Ten Commandments in that when we choose to follow these ways that the Lord says are righteous and holy, chosen by him to set his people aside and make them righteous in their ways, are really just ways of applying the Ten Commandments to human circumstances! That is outside of the rules about sacrifices in The Tabernacle. And then the Ten Commandments are in answer to the most important laws which are to love God more than anything, with all your heart and soul and mind ! And to love your neighbor as you love yourself! If you don't keep the Commandments, you haven't shown love, first and foremost! And the best way to live righteously with a loving heart is to follow the Lord, God's Commandments and the law of Moses! They are explanations of human circumstances that elaborate on these! At least that is my opinion after deeply studying and reflecting on them, as the Holy Spirit shows me who God is through them.

I've recently have come across christians who believe the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Heaven are two different places/times. If this is true, this could be why I can't make sense of your explanation(sorry for my bluntness). Don't get me wrong, I'm not against these talks you two have. I love it. Hearing two guys batting around bible truths is rare. You two approach seeing/knowing God as an exploration instead of a dogmatic approach.

Why does it seem Jesus is being ironic and opaque more often than he is being clear and kind? He seems to be doing performance art more so than nursing the ill for their own sake. I love what you all do and I’d like to say I’m a believer. But I’m just kind of “over it” when it comes to pursuing God while having to also do the mental gymnastics of keeping myself interested.

This is purely my own thoughts, I'm not educated in anything Biblical (for want of a better phrase). I think human psychology varies so much from person to person that more vague imagery might enable it to speak to more people accurately than direct language could when then being interpreted by different brain types. With vague directions different people could use their varying mental abilities or cognitive processing preferences/differences to take different routes to the same destination, whereas these different interpretations of direct directions could result in more people arriving at different destinations. 'Take the third left' could be interpreted as the third major road on the left, the third paved road on the left, the third thing that looks like a road on the left (could be a well maintained private lane or dirt/gravel track), third access on the left/the road after the third access on the left, etc. A direction of 'head north until x' would take more working out, many people would take many different routes to get there, but they could all end up on the same major east-west road eventually, which they can all follow to the same destination. It could be more simple than that of course, it's a filter for some unbelievers, or something to give unbelievers temporary (eternally speaking) 'validation', 'justification' or similar for making the choices they have. God didn't have to establish a world with the physics, etc that this one has, the consistent traceability to theoretical origins outside of His creation, but they prevent the unchangeable hearts from getting stuck amongst Christian communities, looking for their own answers for existence apart from God's creation, and damaging them when the human Christians can't know their heart's condition. Those unbelievers with certainty (limited arrogant human perspective) about alternate origins of everything often separate themselves from 'those religious sorts' leaving many Christians to deepen their faith with easier observed differences to those with unchangeable hearts. Simpler again, He wants us to demonstrate commitment to Him by putting actual effort into understanding what He taught, while also trying to teach an intellectually and physically limited existence about stuff far beyond what its limited vocabulary could hope to describe even vaguely accurately. It could also be pre-knowledge of how language would change over thousands of years and across hundreds of different languages, and how direct wording would change more in meaning than a less direct set of ideas. A specific word in a sentence could completely change its definition in only a few decades, and translate that new definition into other languages, finding a word to best fit that definition and not the former one, suddenly different areas of the world have different instructions from what He gave, whereas more vague ideas force deeper analysis of the era, original word meanings, etc to understand what He was saying more accurately decades and centuries and many translations later. Sorry if that's unclear. I have what limited human understanding of God's creation identifies as a brain with an autistic neuromap or as neurodivergent, different from 'the norm'. I observe the world differently to how the majority/society does, so see the Bible as needing to communicate to a drastically wider variety of brain types than the average person has ever considered to exist (not by choice, being excluded from acting 'too differently' and questioning everything about yourself as a result is what reveals this stuff). I wish I could have clearer direct guidance too.
