Usually if vav is at the beginning of a word, it means "and"; however, one word that starts with vav is the word pink: "ורוד".

Genesis 1:3 And God said,let there [be] light:(the word that we translate as,"be" in the Hebrew is Yehî and it's a jussive conjugation which is a grammatical mood of verbs for issuing orders,commands or exhortation.)...[Sidenote] The words,"Let there" isn't in the actual Hebrew text.but understandably,the translators will usually translate the text in a way that's more comprehensible to the lay English reader.

I am here in Jerusalem learning Biblical Hebrew (and a bit of modern) through the spoken method. Since here we discuss teaching methods etc for these ancient languages that help the student really learn to read the text. Some of the opinions that I have to agree with is that just learning the language passively... not actively, inhibits the reader from really understanding the text. What I mean by passive, is that I can read a language and somewhat recognize words, but if I know them well enough, i.e. actively, I can without looking at some "cheats" can write a letter to someone in the language. Speaking a language helps actively learn the language... any language. But passively learning, i.e. only using it well enough to be able to read, as long as I have "cheats" and "tools" like Logos and other software, prevents someone from ever really learning the language well enough to really command the language. Not sure if I articulated that clearly, but hopefully you get my intent. Using an analogy, can you imagine adults riding around with training wheels, and even teaching people to ride a bike, but he himself is still using training wheels? Just saying... I am getting Logos software, but it will be a supplement, not a crutch is my intent. We have to be careful not to be lazy.

this is true, I sure wish I could learn through actively conversing with native speakers, but being on the other side of the world from Israel it's nearly impossible to find them... so unfortunately passive learning is my only option.

There're alot of mistakes, aspacily in the pronunciation. for example: בראשית and not ברשית. For then more we didn't use 'ו' as a "but", its usually used as a question mark - "how" for example: ותוכל לעשות את זה? Can you do it? And the uesing of יו it's like pronace Uo

In the Jewish tradition, you say that God has seventy names, so when you said: "Adonai" know that it's also forbidden. By the way, not many Christians know that "Hallelujah" is a Hebrew combination of two words: Halel (do) praise, and jah is yet another name for God (you never SAY or READ jah, but it's written as such, in the bible).

Bless you who try to study Hebrew...the language of Elohim, spoken in the Garden of Eden by Adam and the malakim/angels... The reason Scriptures in the original Hebrew call 'Elohim' instead of the singular term 'Aluahh' is because there are always 2 Elohim, the Father and the Son. In Gen.1 & 2 we see that Elohim were creating together. Before Elohim opened my eyes to understand His Word/Scriptures, I have always wondered why in Gen.1:18 it said, "Let's Us make Adam in Our image..." That is because the Father & Son were creating together, for Scriptures reveal that the Father loves His Son and do everything through His Son, for 'in the beginning was the Word. The Word was with Elohim, and the Word was Elohim. He existed in the beginning with Elohim. Elohim created everything through Him, and nothing was created except through Him.' When the Christians translated the Scriptures, they did not understand this truth, because they came from pagan backgrounds with their Trinity belief, so they translated to singular term instead of plural term. What the Christians call the Holy Spirit is actually the Ruach/spirit of the Elohim, and this is revealed throughout Scriptures...Right from the beginning, in Genesis 1:2 Scriptures reveal this truth, "And the Ruach of Elohyim was hovering over the surface of the water..." Elohim created human to be like Elohim, so much like human body has the spirit inside, but you don't call or consider this 2 people do you? Elohim tell us that we cannot understand Elohim through human efforts, like research and study Scriptures, but only by being humble coming to Him and seeking Him, and if our hearts are truthful, then Elohim will reveal... Hope you love the Truth and seek Elohim with All your heart...

You mispronounced almost all sounds of my language - Hebrew! I would recommend you to work harder to get rid of your American accent! Meanwhile I would recommend "Aleph and Beth" channel for Biblical Hebrew!
