The worst thing about American healthcare is that even if you decide to not tank a small sickness and pay the hospital bill, the doctors will literally tell you to go home and tank it, AND still charge you like a hundred dollar for telling you that. As someone who lived in a country with nationalized healthcare before moving to the US, It's crazy American people is used to this.

It would be less frustrating if the health insurance companies weren't so incredibly stupid about it. Preventative endoscopy so you don't get stomach or throat cancer from acid reflux like all your relatives? Yeah you're going to have to pay like $1500 for that. But we'll cover any serious, life saving surgeries that you need! Here's a thought: What if you covered the preventative care so you didn't have to pay for the life saving surgery?

If Obama went with the original proposal we would've had full on nationalized healthcare, but he pussied out so we are now left with this half assed ACA that is only for old people and the very poor, and even for those people it is still a much worse program then other countries healthcare system. Someone please explain me some knowledge, because I'm confused.

"Getting whatever you need to manage the symptoms" is exactly the reason I go to the doctor, I get it from them instead of having a rack full of meds in the house, I don't even have a cough syrup lol. The key thing here is that the bill doesn't scare us, so it's just easier and simpler to just go to the doctor.

@plipplop728 4 күн бұрын
I think the "who cares" part is what the Americans doesn't understand. I'm Indonesian and we don't have the best healthcare system, but going to a doctor is pretty whatever. If it's just a very minor cold then sure, I got some paracetamol and ibuprofen, but if it's even slighltly worse then I just see a doctor. The reason why this topic is even brought up is because they're scared of the bills.
@Aeroxima
@Aeroxima 3 күн бұрын
The "who cares" is you're making the waiting list longer, which is also something that, as an American, gives me doubts about your system. I've heard people in "free" healthcare places often get private insurance because the wait times are awful, so they're really just paying insurance twice, just one is in the form of taxes. Maybe it doesn't bother YOU, but in a system like that, there's only so many resources available and you're taking them up if you go when you don't need to. I wouldn't go around acting morally superior or more socially conscious in that case

I have worked fast food jobs in three regions of the U.S. In the Southern states, they talk a big game about sanitary standards... and try to talk you into coming in to work with a head cold. In Minnesota, the banking may be a mess but the restaurants actually accept sick calls. On the West Coast, you need to actively certify and adhere to sanitary standards, I had to test out for the certificate.

I'm always shocked every single time that the nurse lets them do that with no questions asked. I attended 5 different schools growing up (we moved around a lot) and there's no way a single one of them would've allowed us to do that. Hell, they didn't even have beds. Even if we were running a fever and/or vomiting, the most they'd do is give us some cough medicine and maybe call our parents to pick us up if they could.

When you realize the American spirit of toughening out is mainly due to high med bills and nothing more....lol.

I live by the border and going to the doctor is so easy just crossing the border and get everything done with no crippling dept. Same for my pets! America just sucks

I'm convinced most people who trash talk American healthcare have never actually paid a hospital bill. I'm self employed and uninsured (well, hsa, but not traditional insurance company), and even an er visit didn't bankrupt me. Self pay amount is not the sticker shock amount being billed to insurance.

In Japan, if you have National Insurance, whatever the clinic/hospital bill is, the system paid 70% of the bills. Yeah, lived in Japan for 6 years, only experience visit 2 times. But then again, Japan Healthcare don't willing nilly giving medication due to fear of drug resistance and to saving cost. If it just a fever, the doctor just probably advise drink hot lemon water, take a lot of shower, and tanked it while sleep.

@@druegnor1703 Does the Japanese MD send you a bill for the visit? To be more specific, does the Japanese National Insurance cover the cost of the MD appointment?

I'm convinced people who deny the absurdity of the American Healthcare System has not even tried healthcare elsewhere in a first world country.

They've never paid a hospital bill. I had an abdominal ultrasound three weeks ago. $175. In March, I had an ER visit. Ekg, full blood panel, chest xray, head ct, the works PLUS the ER admittance itself. Paid a little over 2k from my hsa for what would've been nearly 10k billed to insurance.

@@AccountInactive Ultrasound in my country is around 25 USD based on current forex rates so it is pretty expensive for you compared to another country so dont defend the american medical system why a terrorist already tried to kill someone because of it.

im uninsured and simple nurse practitioner visits are 115, i had to pay for blood tests and it was an additional 80, it didnt give me an answer so another visit to try a different medication wouldve been another 115. also i was avoiding the er for chest pain because i thought having to pay 500-1k for an uninsured er (plus the multi hour long wait) visit would make my chest pain worse if it wasnt a heart attack lol
