These retractable pens from Bic have been around since the 1950's, but they are not too common here in the US. While in Paris, I saw people everywhere using these pens and found them in many stores, so I picked up the Bic M10 in blue, black and red.

A couple of months ago I ended up, randomly, looking at a Bic's France catalogue, and I saw these pens and another models that I haven't seen before (some erasable ones). But these M10 were one of my favorites. So cool to see a review of these pens.

Glad you liked the review of these M10's. These pens are so common in France, and yet unavailable in other parts of the world. Bic has a "Clic" model here in the US that is a disposable retractable pen, and I'm guessing they don't want to compete with another product of theirs. Although I think I like the M10 more than the Clic. Thanks for watching!

I distinctly remember seeing these around when I was a child. The Round Stic Clic may have replaced it in the U.S.

Great video. The M10 is not only my favorite Bic pen design, but perhaps also my favorite ballpoint pen design of all time. It's a timeless classic!

Hi ArthropodSpidey - sounds like you are a big fan of the M10. It is a great design and I think one of the best inexpensive retractable pens out there. It is a classic, indeed! Thanks!

I visited Cyprus a couple months ago and the M10 was not sold. I also noticed that a majority of the Bic products are the blue ink and not the black ink. You could only get the black ink in the Cristal multi color packs

I’m writing with the M10 for the first time today and I cannot believe how thin the pen is. I thought the pen to be much bigger. A must pen to have for pen fanatics like us. My go to are the Orange Cristal Fines and now the M10s

The pen is too good I have used them, I bought a pack of 50 for around 7 dollars on amazon it was a good deal and you should try out the crystal clic too they are the modified version of these. I haven't tried any round stic pen so can you please tell me if they are smoother than these?
@AlwaysAnalog
@AlwaysAnalog 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Arceus - I don't think a Round Stic pen is any smoother than the M10. Thanks!

I remember seeing these in the US in the early '70s. We bought a lot of school supplies from Ben Franklin which had these.

Alexander - I think these were more popular in the US years ago but I think Bic began marketing their stick pens more heavily and then these sort of faded in popularity. THanks!

@@AlwaysAnalog Yes. I hadn't seen them for years until I found them on the European BIC website and then was able to purchase them from Amazon and other online vendors. They were very popular in the '60s and probably the first half of the '70s. I recall seeing them on the cardboard retail packages in blue, black and red. The Cristal was always popular. I recall when the Bic Biro came out around 1980 (I was a freshman in high school) and how popular those became. I like both the Cristal and the Round Stic (formerly the Biro) for different reasons.

The BIC M10 is really a true classic pen like the BIC Cristal. I've had bad experiences with it at the office, as has a colleague of mine. They are very fragile in the center where the clear part begins and often broke in the middle when writing. I always put a lot of pressure on a ballpoint pen, just like my colleague, but that should have no consequences.I also write differently than how people should write according to schools. Namely with the thumb under my index finger, which gives you more support while writing and prevents the pen from shooting out of your hand, which bothered me a lot as a child from the second year of primary school on. Here in the Netherlands you learn to write with a pen from the second grade of primary school and you are only allowed to use a pencil in the first grade. The button also popped back while writing and therefore the filling, which I have seen not only with my colleague but also with others.

Hi Jean - thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience with the M10 pen. I've not had any problems with using this pen, although honestly I don't use it often because I tend to favor the Bic Cristal instead. Thanks!

These pens are point down in the package. Very rare to see in this way. Point down is How I store my ballpoint pens execept the Bic 1.6 , 1.2 , Pilot 1.6 and parker g2 style Schmidt pressurizada. Best regards, Mário.

Hi Mario! I find that most retractable pens are point down in the package, and most capped pens are point up. I don't know if there is a reason for that but it's interesting. Thanks!

As an artist, I should pay more attention to the pencils and pens I use. I guess I never really paid much attention to what brands I use... usually whatever I have laying around the studio! Will have to pay closer attention!

I have been watching a lot of pen-related content recently. The "pen enthusiasts" spend a lot of time talking about materials and construction and design and provenance and trying to characterize or parameterize the 'writing experience'... The artists seem to just take a minute or two with the pen, figure out what they like about it and then proceed to blow everyone away with their art. Honestly I'm pretty sure the latter are bringing more value.
