Look for more information bud, the anthem melody was brought back to lift the spirits of the citizens and athletes alike, the Yeltsin anthem doesn't sound very patriotic however this one does, even far left Russians would keep the current anthem it just has a more patriotic beautiful tone to it. You people got to stop with saying Putin wants to resurrect the Soviet Union first of all it's impossible there's at least one former USSR Republic in NATO now, whatever the outcome of the Ukrainian War whether they win or lose the results is the same total devastation a lot of money will be drained repairing the infrastructure I don't think a new USSR would want to deal with that. However he does want to bring Russia as an economic superpower which will be hard considering China is soon to dethrone the US from that position.

Its kind of sad to think Yeltsin was sort of hopeful Putin will "democratize" Russia more. When He hears the "new Anthem" (which is a simplified version of the pre 1991 Anthem of the USSR) you can see he is like "Oh God! What did I do" but at the same time the old chap is tired and bitter after such unstable years with the Red October events, the Chechen and Dagestan wars and the neighboring conflicts in Armenia and Azerbaijan. Both Russian patriots but with clear different visions for the Federation, Putin will prove worthy of protector of Russia but not as a democrat, yet I feel Russia can only be hold together via semi Authoritarianism and not something like we do in the West.
@rickenman98443 жыл бұрын
You had me then you lost me, "something we do in the West" is allow free, fair and competitive elections, an ideologically diverse media landscape, and a relatively fair and organized legal system. I'm not saying Russia shouldn't be allowed to decide the bulk of it's own domestic policy, such as management of national finances and the ability to decide what kind of foreign goods to import, but in terms of human rights and respect for the free press, there HAS to be SOME sort of international agreement on these issues.

“ In 1990, the anthem was abandoned, and a few options were considered. None of them really stuck. In 2000, the old melody was resurrected after various sports celebrities complained to president Putin about confusion and lack of a good anthem to play at the Olympics. Sergey Mikhalkov, one of the original authors, who was still alive at the time, wrote new lyrics that talked about the mighty state and God, rather than Communist party. So, in effect, it is the same, rather than a ripoff. Accepting the old music allows Russians a feeling of some continuity, and lets them identify with the achievements of the country they once were.” Also I feel it’s the same thing as old pagan temples turning into Christian churches. It doesn’t mean Christianity is pagan. It also doesn’t mean the Russian national anthem is red.

He was better in democracy than Putin. But Boris failed to build Russia after the Soviets left. Currently Putin has not build after Soviets either because he still uses their anthem their technology. Russia has not build anything significant like the Soviet Union did. The Soviets had a real military a real space program. Russia does not have that. Russia has been drowning in sanctions since the invasion of Georgia in 2008. It got worst in 2014.

Here's the thing with Russia, it's too big, too complex to be governed like an Americzn democracy. It requires a strongman leader.
@TimeMakerDotPH2 жыл бұрын
Canada, US, Australia, and Germany were also too big and too complex but thanks to democracy + federalism, they are functioning well economically, socially, and politically. Switzerland is small but too complex and they're also doing well with democracy. Problem is, Russians gave up after 10 years of testing democracy. No democracy on Earth started as a perfect one, not even the Americans or French. During the French Revolution, there's a lot of political instability, killing aristocrats, invaded on all sides, and the democracy is not a real one since only rich men who can buy votes can become member of parliament. They introduced Napoleon, they restored the monarchy but in the end, they kept going with democracy and it took them 5 republics to "perfect the recipe" when De Gaulle introduced a political system that will balance unity/stability (president) and democracy (PM & parliament) and that's the system France has been using since 1958. The difference between France and Russia is that, the French kept improving their democracy for 150+ years while the Russians gave up after just a decade of democracy experiment. The Russians also didn't bother to develop it's democratic traditions for the past 3-4 centuries while the US has been doing that since 1776, France since 1789 (revolution), Switzerland since 1848 (confederation) UK since 1867 (voting rights), Canada since 1867, and Australia since 1901. Even the German Empire which is ruled by an autocratic Kaiser already practices some form of democracy through the Reichstag and giving suffrage to all male above 25 y/o while the Russian Empire just established the Duma decades before WW1 started. That's just how backward, I mean literally backward on social progress and political reforms Russia is. And when they taste democracy in the 20TH CENTURY (1990s) where majority of countries are now democracy, they gave up easily. And here you are saying strongman is suitable to Russia not democracy. What do you expect from dictators? They delay democratic reforms to concentrate political power to themselves only, from the imperial Tsars, to Stalin, up to Putin. Democracy will work in Russia but it should have been started by now and there should be no turning back, if there are flaws then refine it not entirely change democracy as a whole for another tyranny.

@@TimeMakerDotPH Canada, US, Australia, and Germany. Please, there is no comparison, they are small potatoes compared to Russia. In a big country, it is too complex to unify a nation. America is about as big as you can get to have a properly functioning democracy. India, meanwhile, is one step away from anarchy, trying democracy in an over-sized nation. Russia, they long understood this. They always seek strongmen for government, and when a leader lacks this attribute, their days are numbered. Just ask Tsar Nicholas II.

@@broadstreet21 India has over a billion people... The US has 330 million... Russia has... 140 million. Merely one Netherlands more than Japan. Russia may be almost twice the land mass of the US, but most of it is uninhabited wasteland. There is no logical reason why this would cause federal democracy to be impossible. The US also has a lot of uninhabited wasteland, by the way. India, on the other hand, is overcrowded and a third the US' size. You're just pulling shit out of thin air to make autocracy in Russia seem inevitable, which it isn't.
@broadstreet212 жыл бұрын
@@LOLERXP India is almost an anarchy. And Russia's vast landmass effectively leaves Russians scattered far and wide, sometimes having conflicting interests. Russia never functioned properly without a dictator or a strongman. Historically, when the leader is found not to be one, they often throw them out in a revolution or the country goes bankrupt.
