Hi Neils, what a great video! Finally had a chance last night to watch it (been waiting for a moment of no interruptions). I love your videos because you are showing us the real Africa, not the sanitized TV versions. I am amazed how large the hippos are in comparison to you in the back ground. No wonder they are a #1 killer! Love the drone videos of the elephants and buffalo. I am amazed at the landscape, the red soil, seeing the people of Africa in their natural element. Thank you for sharing your experience with us! Hugs to you.

Great video. Really enjoyed the opening sequence where you superimposed the map of your route and mapped your trip then made it partly transparent above your drone footage. Really clever stuff. You will not forget these adventures.

Over 20 years ago I visited friends who were then living in Uganda, and Lake Bunyoni was one of the wonderful places we visited - safe swimming, and I was hopeless in the dug-out canoe. Another highlight was Murchison Falls game park. Hippos, crocs, many elephants, giraffe, a leopard... We had a couple of hairy adventures, but cycling and camping in a game park sounds very risky!

A fabulous film. Warning, hippos can very grumpy and unpredictable. Keep a safe distance from them. Your drone really lets you see things you otherwise wouldn't. Footage of the lake at the end was fabulous. Also of the game and bull elephant by the tree. A trip of a life time that you will remember for the rest of your life. Your films are wonderful reminders of your journey, sights and sounds, people and places you saw. You might be filling the shoes of Iohan.

Yes great film I hope you have footage of each country down to SA to show us your film technical is brilliant 👍

@@cyclingaroundtheplanet , thanks for your interaction. My concern is with the wild animals as lions and so on. Don't pass by my mind to use a gun against another human being, I would prefer to let the bad person to take whatever has in mind, probably I would fight for my life and that's It. Listen to the people of the land, they know where they are. Take care and may God be with you.

May I ask you a technical question? What are your gears in the bike? Currently in my gravel bike I have 46-30 in front and 11-34 in the back and I’m thinking of upgrading it before bikepacking trip in Slovakia (we plan to go from Vienna to eastern Poland). I was on few bikepacking trips before but never in mountainous terrain and I think with my current set up it will be sometimes to hard to go steep uphills. How do you think, what are ideal gears for bikepacking with a quite heavy bike (pair of 60l panniers and a tent)?
@cyclingaroundtheplanet
@cyclingaroundtheplanet 2 жыл бұрын
I have 40-28 in the front and 11-36 in the back, which is good for me. Only on crazy steep dirt roads I could ise some extra teeth. Depending on how much gear you are carrying and how strong your legs are of course, I would go for a smaller gear range. I don't think you will need 46 teeth in the front
@chodzsiepowoczymy1892
@chodzsiepowoczymy1892 2 жыл бұрын
@@cyclingaroundtheplanet thank you for replay! Yes, I definitely don’t need 46 in front, I don’t use the hardest gears even without any luggage. It was just the configuration I bought the bike with

Great footage!!! how is Uganda for cycling? Isn't too dangerous cycling in the national park with predators like lions and panthers, Or even aggressive elephants? Is it possible to find accommodations on countryside? or only using tent? Anyway as far as I know, Uganda considers one pf the safest country all over Africa, Unlike Ethiopia...
@cyclingaroundtheplanet
@cyclingaroundtheplanet 2 жыл бұрын
Uganda is very safe, though it's often hard to find a campsite because it is so populated. You do have to watch out for elephants or hippos, for that matter, and definitely keep your distance. You might encounter lions in QENP, but they will generally not be active during the day because they will get overheated
@Cycle-Tourer
@Cycle-Tourer 2 жыл бұрын
THANKS !! Are there any places to stay-sleep in populated areas like guesthouses or small hotels or even private accommodations? Are there any elephants or hippos anywhere or just in organized national parks? Are there any cheap places to stay in those national parks like organized camping sites or alternate cheap accommodation?
@furiousdoe7779

The lions there only stay put on the tree . Take your flashing bike light and attach it to your tent …if you are unsure of cats . They will leave you in peace . I just had last months 2lionesses sniffing my tent … while i was in . 2 Males made a lot of noise. At night if want to pee place the small bike clip light on your belt or on your back shirt … no attacks from leopards .
