Type RA is basically the lightest version of the STi you could buy back in the day. That car comes with a EJ20k which is an open deck block and could probably handle 350whp before you blow it up. That roof scoop actually funnels in a ton of air at speed because AC wasn't standard on the Type RA trim. I think being a V-Limited meant that it was kind of loaded though and it even came with a rare 5spd DCCD trans with a 4.44 final drive that made these things feel super quick. Subarus are awesome, even here in America where we get all of the step child trash lol

Hey man , the Subaru type RA (555) specifically was produced to celebrate the 555 Motorsport team that Colin McRae drove for in the 90s. I'm actually from the same town as Colin McRae in Scotland. Also state express 555 is an Asian cigarette company or was, they were the WRC Subaru sponsor

Yeah I recommend people to buy gc8s from aus not Japan cuz they got way less rust got one over in australia with a heap of sti bits cheap and the car has not a spot of rust at 170k kms because it was in Queensland and garage kept, what gc8s you got?

If you're after an older bugeye/blob/hawk WRX try find one that has had the failure prone original driveline swapped out to an ej207 and 6 speed manual, otherwise just go for an STI as they have that engine/gearbox. Factory forged internals and 350kw+ capable gearbox. Having a good tune is key, ideally go a speed density tune to delete the MAF sensor as they fail too

Watch out for head gasket failure, a good way to tell is look in the oil cap for a white creamy substance or check how much coolant there is because there might be a leak. Oil also can leak out the value cover which is a common problem. There are sometimes suspension issues but I image you would change them for rally driving. Try getting a 6 speed I don’t no from experience but I have heard they are stronger than the five speed I not sure if all model came with six speed but I guess you can do some research around that I hope some of this is useful, keep up the good work 👍
@chrissi02109412 жыл бұрын
The 5 speed is literally a Handgranate if you throw more power at it, you'll never know when it is going to explode. The sti models always come with the 6 speed wich is very capable and strong, the wrx comes with the 5 speed :)

That Type RA is sick. The roof scoop is to let in fresh air and not dusty air while rallying.
@Carsaddiction2 жыл бұрын
The 1st gen Impreza, referred to as the "Classic" is the only generations WRX/STI that got the sedan, wagon and coupe bodystyle. If its with a roof scoop, then its a Type RA (like what you seen) and usually don't have a/c, abs, electric windows for weight savings ... then the 2 doors are referred to as the Type-R. The red Mazda RX7 seems to have a rare A-Spec bumper - memories from Gran Turismo .... And that R33, how does it still have the standard exhaust :)

Subarus are well balanced cars. Low center of gravity, good low end torque, decent high end output when boosted. Lots of fun off road or in the snow. Gotta reinforce the engine though if you want to avoid frequent rebuilds. EJ engines are near bulletproof until you strap a turbo on them, imo. AWD systems are pretty decent too. Big aftermarket for them.

In 1994, Subaru introduced Subaru Tecnica International (STi badged) versions of the WRX in Japan. These models were upgraded from the standard WRX in many categories, including blueprinted performance tuned engines, transmissions, and suspensions. The STi versions of the WRX were immensely successful in rallies and popular among street racers but were only sold in the Japanese market. The V3 STi had seen major upgrades as opposed to the prior two variants. Multi-point Injection, a new IHI Turbo allowing more boost to be added, larger intercooler, Molybdenum Piston coating, and revised camshaft timing and lift. This brought the HP and torque numbers up to roughly 280HP and 260lb-ft of torque. The brakes were also made larger to accommodate for the increase in power. An automated spray system was also added to keep the intercooler cool. The 1998 model year called 22 B has the 2.2L with Power set @ 300 hp @ 6300 rpm. Torque: 267 lb-ft @ 3200 rpm. And only 400 were ever made for Japan only. Collectors have started to scoop those up and many are going for 6 figures. Like $100k to over $300k

Buy a bug eye. Remember it's the cars no one wanted that becomes sort after. Like the 33gtr and dr30. And if you want to build a Rally car most of its cheap but U going to need the sti box. It's like what an r200 and a 33box for Nissan. The sti box is an engineering masterpiece with a front/rear touque split that is adjustable. Trust me on the sti box. I'm not a Subaru guy. I'm Nissan through and through. But learnt a bit about the rexys over the years. U don't need huge power to be a fast rally car. You need the sti box (did I mention that already) Raised suspension. A good set of rally tyres. A cage a set of harnesses and your racing. The best rally car is one you can reshell for cheap money. The bug eye is perfect

SAMMIT, I might be wrong, but I think that there are only 2 yellow NSXs (from factory) in the world. One is in Portugal, and the second is in a museum, in Germany. The legend has it, that there was a Portuguese business owner that wanted a yellow NSX, as a tribute to Ayrton Senna. The portuguese and european Honda told him it wasn't possible to do that, so he went to the japanese Honda, and justified why the yellow color (although Senna had a red NSX in his Portuguese home), and Honda ended up on making the only two yellow NSXs that were ever produced. (this was just a short version of the story, 'cause I think it wasn't this simple...)

@cd5sircoupe2 жыл бұрын
Clickbait Sam coming in clutch once again... actual bidding starts at 30m into a 32m video and lasts for about a minute. That yellow NSX likely needed those add on turn signals for inspection purposes. The US cars only had front turn signals + side markers. Our cars generally didn't have side turn signals until fairly recently. Edit: That reminds me, at least in the case of my V35 anyway, when I got the JDM tail lights they did not have the integrated side marker LEDs that the US lights had, they were replaced with reflectors. That was a thing people often did when cloning a US car into a JDM one, deleting the rear side markers. Especially in the 90s/00s. Also, passed by a stupid clean looking 06-07 hawkeye Sti for the Cresta, The Type RA was cool, but the Blob behind it was probably more the speed for what I'm assuming the Subaru would be intended for.

Sam FYI in America cars need a turn signal indicator from the side profile if the tail lights don't wrap around the side enough to see it. That's why it's on the NSX

Let’s talk Subarus. I just bought my first Subaru 2 years ago. Although i just bought a standard auto to get around. 09 Impreza hatch 2.5 premiem. From the information I found on the net and actually dealing with the Subaru. I do really like Subarus but they do have problems that you will have to deal with like oil consumption. That being because the piston rings wear out uneven as the pistons lay on their sides. Also with the Ej motors having a defect from the factory being that the heads and head gasket warp if it has not been rebuilt. You should look out for an oil leak or oils build up by where the bottom end and heads meet. If you want a Subaru, you should look for one that has not been molested or at least know the shop that has messed with the car. Check to see if the engine was rebuild for machined heads, honed cylinders, new piston rings, and new seals all around. Having an oversized oil pan with baffle and having the Coolant hose mod done would be nice for the motor. If your are going to rebuild the motor, trying going with a closed deck cylinders. Other that that. I believe the rest of the car if great. The subie unequal length headers are is an awesome sound but it does take a chunk out of the mpg’s. If you need help with your cars or making videos. I could use a job?

Glad that you made it back to JP. GC8 sti Type RA is specify with 4 doors & little window at top which is cheaper than ver 5/6 Type R and good to buy however GC8 body is softer than S201 or the later series (experience more body roll). I own an Imported subaru legacy gtb twin turbo. Mines an auto so it has the ej206. If you're looking into subarus obviously head gasket issues also make sure to check oil frequently as subaru motors consume a decent bit of oil. And then from there it's basic car maintenance and the car would run fine. Most stock bottom end subaru motors can only hold about 350 ish safely depending on a few things and such. But you can build the bottom end and obviously go for more power. Also if you're looking at what I assume will mainly be imprezas the 5 speed transmission are apparently glass so try to look for the sti 6 speed Trans which holds up better. Parts are a bit hard to find for the imported subaru stuff where I am, but that shouldn't be an issue for you in Japan haha
