As an 18 or 19 year old who had literally no idea how money or loans work, I went into the financial aid office and they did it all for me and had me sign on the dotted line for THOUSANDS of dollars more than I needed for tuition. No one explained ANYTHING to me. I had no idea what I signed up for. Which is one of the reasons some of these companies are in trouble for this exact reason, giving loans out like candy.

I've been wondering if it's possible to sue over this, I know the government can say we gave the loan and choose to recind it but on the other hand they are handpicking certain individuals and leaving certain people out so i feel like it would have to be all or none, then as you said you have people who did what they agreed and paid it back, so i feel they could argue that they don't get that option and had to struggle to pay it back and therefore deserve something too. This is fair to those who served or did public service because their debt is completely forgiven. It is fair to society because the ´money that was actually spent by the borrower is repaid by him.The government can then figure out how to pay the interest owed in a seperate move.
