Sam is clearly slower than when he was younger. We can see it in the old videos. Old Sam talks more slowly and deliberately, he hesitates, sometimes he use the wrong words (which he catch himself 95% of the time). Young Sam was extremely quick on his feet. Humans reach their peak around 20-25, and then it is downhill all the way. It pains me to say this because I'm in my 60s. I haven't noticed any deterioration in myself, but I am pretty sure that is because it is myself. You can't see it in yourself. It's so sad that Biden has well over a decade on me, and he doesn't realize it. He should have known it when he was younger. I mean I knew it when I was 30. I was tipped off by the hair loss. When I was 12, I had so much hair, it looked like they couldn't fit on my head. The loss of so much hair, my own dad's clear baldness, made me realize I was going to have to shave my head soon. It says obvious that my body was deteriorating. The hypermetropia only confirms it soon after. I hit the scientific literature, looked at the performance of athletes, chess players, etc looked at their ages, and it was clear as day. A 25 year old is fitter than a 35 yo, is fitter than a 45 yo is fitter than a 55 yo. Hopefully, the 45 yo President has more wisdom than a 25 yo, though it may not necessarily be so (eg Trump). A 65 yo may still have retained enough mental capacity and capability, although it is not linked directly to age (eg Bernie is more functional than Biden).

I've listened to Biden's arguments for staying in the race and I've considered them carefully, understanding that incumbency is an invaluable asset in a presidential race and that a new candidate is risky, and I am not persuaded. Not at all. He's already put the party in a very difficult position, and every day he continues compounds that. He cannot stay in the race.

As for Biden's narcissism - I've found from clinical experience that in old age and early dementia the person develops a more extreme version of their personality and have less ability to inhibit it- fearful people become more fearful, cruel people become more cruel, angry people become more angry and vain people become more vain. Interestingly, I also think that kind people become more kind into old age. You don't see it that often, but when you do, you hope that you end up that way. Anyway, I have never seen an old person who has lived all their lives as a narcissist become less narcissistic into old age. Never.

I don't think this is helpful at all. I'm used to MR being realists, and I'm used to them being pragmatists and I don't see either in arguing that we should change the candidate 150 days out from an election. And I think it shows a real panic and hysteria to suggest that Kamala has the popular appeal to pull it off because she's the legacy candidate, when she has never been popular. That's why Biden's answer to the question doesn't bother me nearly as much either, because if he doesn't win it's because the country is crazy.

Then he had the worst debate showing in modern political history. Now his poll numbers have tanked, and his party is in chaos. If Joe Biden loses it's because a couple hundred thousand people in a handful of swing states didn't feel motivated enough to call out of work for a few hours. Kamala is a viable candidate only because she is a "generic democratic." If you're implying that Sam and Emma are "trolls for Trump", you really need to take a step back and re-evaluate things. Go back and listen to Biden in 2019 and compare it to more recent speeches, go and really listen to Biden while he speaks nowadays. He positively *refuses* to take a cognitive test from an independent neurological specialist, which isn't exactly consistent with what you would expect from someone who is confident in their ability to pass such a test. Don't look at things in black and white. Yes, Project 2025 is a disaster for our democracy, and yes, Biden is more truthful than Trump is, but just because those things are true, it doesn't make concerns unfounded, or people "trolls" for voicing them. Yes, I'll vote Biden over Trump 100 times over, but will everyone else? Yeah, it's super disappointing to see this. Biden had record grassroots fundraising after the debate--they aren't talking about it. The bloomberg poll that came out AFTER the debate showed Biden narrowing the gap with Trump--haven't heard them talk about it. If you believe the polls, the race is--like Biden said--a toss up.
