To speak for myself, I'm still behind Joe, but not because I think he's fit. I am scared that he might be our best shot at winning in November. If I and others like me can be genuinely convinced an alternative can do better, we will gladly jump ship. But no sooner. EDIT: As of writing, the most recent general election polls, as aggregated on 538, show him trailing by somewhere between 0-4%. His potential replacements are polling worse. I've argued below that the margin of improvement has to be significant to be convincing, and the math isn't there yet. Switching to a worse-performing and non-incumbent candidate while risking an intraparty brawl is anti-strategy. Until we as a party are prepared to rally behind a real replacement, don't give up the ship. EDIT 2: It's July 21st. Every one of us needs to back Kamala right now. No more infighting or it's Joever.

Dear Mr. Stewart, I have long been a fan of yours both on camera and behind the scenes. There are approximately 50,000 service members who were medically retired for their actions during their time in combat zones, and then service members are forced to choose between their earned DOD retirement or their VA Disability rating. I am a combat medically retired Marine who watched you fight for many of my fellow service members for the PACT Act, and now humbly ask for your fighting strength again. There is legislation called The Major Richard Star Act that continues to gain traction in both chambers of Congress and both sides of the aisle. However, even though the bill has over 300 co-sponsors in the House and over 70 in the Senate, it is stalled out while tens of thousands of service members continue to suffer daily. I believe that someone in your position can bring light to the situation and call for action on our behalf, much like you have in the past. Thank you for everything you have done and continue to do. Your work keeps me grounded in a world that is constantly up in the air. -James G. Kratky

This is true for Republicans as well. McConnell's freezeups were pretty embarrassing. I hope, regardless of whoever wins or loses, the country can get its act together and pass some much needed reform amendments-like a relatively generous age limit (78, 80, 82, 84, something in that range, I'm thinking) on our highest positions; a severe limit on presidential criminal immunity; long term limits for federal legislators; age or term limits on Supreme Court justices; mandatory increases of number of House Representatives; and so on, and so on. Faint hope, maybe, but it would be optimal.

My parents both recently passed away. I watched their cognitive decline and did so with my grandparents earlier. It is not a linear thing. It happens as it happens. My dad used to say, "I can still think, your mom is still mobile. Together we make 1 solid person." You have to understand where they are and deal with it. President is a hard job. I don't really want an 80+ year old man to have to do that job. It is not fair to him or us. The other half of the problem is that the elderly find these changes humiliating and often refuse to accept them. It is not their fault, but we have to be adults.

IMO, if Biden went to the press and stated: "Fellas, I'm to old for this. The US deserves the best and I can't do it anymore but here is a guy/gal I fully support." it would not only provide the Dems with a leg up but also shame the Reps even more because one party was honest enough to rethink their choice while the other insists on a lunatic.

@@fuzzypanda1684 The "end of quote, repeat the line" clip is incredibly misleading. Biden quoted the Supreme Court ruling that overturned Roe v Wade. He introduced it by saying "and I quote," read the quote, and then said "end of quote." Then he said "let me repeat the line" and repeated part of the quote for emphasis. He talks fast and slurs words, so it's hard to hear the "let me" but it's clear from the inflection in his voice. Watching the full clip confirms this. Claiming he accidentally read teleprompter instructions is a lie.
