Joe Biden’s State of the Union address warned that some Republicans want Medicare and Social Security To sunset, leading some GOPers to jeer at him. Biden rhetorically asks the members whether Social Security and Medicare cuts are off the table in upcoming debt limit negotiations, every Democrat, and about half the Republicans, stand up and applaud. Biden exclaims: "We got unanimity!"

Thanks for mentioning the Covid emergency Medicaid at the top of this video. Trying to draw attention to this. My father-in-law already had Medicaid before Covid but as they’re taking this away, they’re taking away his Medicaid. He had Medicaid and Medicare as he has a quadriplegic, and the Medicare paid for his care. The Medicaid paid nurses and other people who helped him to live his life. Taking away this Medicaid from him is a death sentence.

@@soulknife20 I think, in current times, the congressional pay is relatively fair. It is just about a full time job but, that aside, not having the pay would effectively exclude anybody who isn't independently wealthy. Many members have to have multiple places of residence due to the nature of their positions and they might also require personal security depending on what they stand for and who opposes them (take the squad, for example). And as Rick said above, their wages aren't even a rounding error in the national budget. I think it would be a good approach to deny them and their immediate family the ability to invest in stocks, etc though and actually require they divest from any business that may be in conflict with their duties.
