Tick tock goes the clock for American users of the video-based social media platform as the company says it will go dark in the US tomorrow when a ban there comes into force. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
TikTok is supposed to find new, non-Chinese owners by tomorrow and the US Supreme Court upheld the ban on Friday.
But will the darkness descend?
Because the outgoing Biden Administration says it won't enforce the ban.
Donald Trump, President again from Monday, says he needs more time to decide what to do.

@Visceral2096 not racism no, not at all in fact I’m just saying foreign company’s shouldn’t be allowed to gather information about citizens from another country on a database. If you see racism in that I don’t know what you consider racism your are probably correct about other apps collecting the same information, however if they are foreign maby it is something to consider for national security. Maybe more apps are foreign than what I even know about but either ways they shouldn’t have that information.

As much as I find the greatest amount of viral TikTokers stupid, I think that’s a bit silly. But at the same time I don’t think it will be a big loss for humanity… What really annoys me is the heavy censorship here on KZbin, Instagram and Facebook, which I don’t even use that much. That is something that is really annoying.

Different reasons. China's censorship is about maintaining absolute government control, both politically and socially. KZbin et al censor for commercial reasons - they want to keep advertisers happy, which means making sure their branded ads don't appear next to anything too offensive, controversial or sexual. Aside from that, the American social media firms deliberately keep their censorship ineffective in order to avoid getting dragged into politically-tinged arguments over what is acceptable.

I understand the ads and the concerns from “publicists” about not wanting to be sponsored with some sort of offensive content in a video, but I was also referring to the censorship in people’s comments. I saw many of my comments disappearing after talking about serious matters. The fact that people cannot use certain words anymore to even describe something serious, is really ridiculous. Meanwhile I saw a video a while ago where the creator was using a very strong language and disturbing words. And I say that as a very open minded person. (It was the description of a gory movie) I just wanted to know the context since some people were talking about this movie in another video, but I regretted even watching this tell-all video. The guy used the word “fu***ng next to “baby”, and showed some blurry footage that was disturbing anyway because didn’t let much to imagination. Some years ago my Instagram account was permanently deleted because I was complaining about the wars in the Middle East. I basically said that people who wanted a war should have fought within themselves only and not involve innocent people and bam, my comment was marked as “hate speech”. In a page where religious fanatics were praising k*ll*ngs and hate towards the west. It’s like the content moderators just ban whatever they personally don’t like but allow other nasty videos or comments on social media. I saw a lot of violent content in different platforms, especially facebook, and if you try to report it, you will get a response stating that the content doesn’t go against the rules. Meanwhile people have to put stars on certain words in order to not have their comments automatically cancelled, even if they are not meant to be offensive. I think it’s a couple of steps backwards in terms of freedom of speech and also common sense.
