President Joe Biden may be forced to drop out of the presidential race despite his interview Friday with ABC news where he dismissed concerns over his ability to carry out another term in office, UCL Director of the centre on US politics Thomas Gift told FRANCE 24. "Any additional gafs or mental lapses or senior moments, to be speak, they're gonna be magnified under a microscope and they're gonna louden the calls for him to step down," Gift said.

This all depends on how it all plays out. If Biden fully steps down as President and Kamala takes his place, she will not likely have a VP, since in this instance, the House would have to confirm her choice and there's a 0% the GOP would do that, since by not giving her a VP, the next in line would be Mike Johnson. She could pick a "running mate" but that individual would only become VP after she would win the election (which I doubt she would but, that's beside the point). If she replaces Biden as a candidate but he doesn't step down, then she could select one at the convention however if Biden is not well enough to campaign for a second term, then it will raise very serious questions about how he can remain as President, considering the job of the presidency is far more demanding than campaigning. The Democrats have really dug themselves into a hole here. That they refused to have a real primary this year only makes that problem even worse.

Otherwise, this debate verges on ageism, lumping all octogenarians together, rather than acknowledging marked variation. That includes so-called "super-agers," who remain "young" cognitively and physiologically, into their 90s. Focusing on self-care, including regular exercise, healthy eating, plenty of sleep, stress management, and little or no alcohol can help more of us lessen the risk of becoming frail and cognitively impaired in old age. Biden, however, may have early cognitive impairment, and possibly a variant of temporal lobe epilepsy that leads to "focal unawareness seizures" with episodic "freezing." If so, taking an anticonvulsant would lessen the risk of this disorder leading to Alzheimer's disease.
