Biffa, please look more at the trains. When they get stuck, a lot of problems emerge like more trucks on road, not enough goods in stores and the worst, more half-empty trains

Yeah the train back-ups were pretty brutal to look at in this city; I wonder if it's a case of the trains being longer (ie. modded assets), from the goods not getting anywhere, inter-city trains clogging up the system, or train junctions not being the right size. Knowing Cities: Skylines... probably a combination. XD

There's an amazing mod that helps with train traffic. It basically sets it so trains will only spawn with at least 50% cargo. In vanilla they will spawn with as little as 7% cargo and it floods your lines with a bunch of tiny train deliveries. Bad design. But yeah, he doesn't work with trains that much.

My city has over 90k population, soon 100k. But my "city" is actually 2 big cities with around 4 or 5 towns. I thought my traffic was bad, but now after seeing this my traffic is nothing. I'm pretty sure my traffic is not bad because of Biffa, I learned to do lane mathematic, traffic manager and to put roundabouts everywhere from him and as a result my traffic is not bad at all for 90k

I've noticed that highways roads, when coming in to a roundabout, get the enter the junction on when you use the TMPE ctrl+shift+click... Great videos, keep up the good work! Cheers and love from Brasil!

One thing to note: When you do the auto-setup of the roundabout with Ctrl-click (or Ctrl-Shift-Click?) and there is the tram road crossing the roundabout, it gives dedicated turning lanes for going from the roundabout to the tram road, which are not used at all. So you effectively reduce the capacity of the roundabout from 3 to two lanes.

Hey, Biffa! Great video as always, I just noticed that the trains were also clogged up a bit. I think I've seen that in a few recent Fix Your City videos. Do you check that off'camera? I've had problems with trains myself in my current city, and while I managed to make it work, the solution was... interesting to look at. It would be great if you could do another train traffic episode to get a few ideas and tips to adress ourselfs without making stacking trans junctions in separte loops or something like that.

What Roundabouts and Highways have to avoid, is one whole turning direction. Idealy the one opposite to the driving direction. If you drive right, the left turn is the worst. If you drive left, the right turn is the worst. Nothing disrupts as many other lanes as those two. I guess if all roads join in the inside, it could avoid a different turning direction. But it must be the same on pretty much all connection. The Trams joining on the inside could work here, but it is still not ideal.

It CAN work, but do need a little bit of thought. It can't be place in every roundabout and shouldnt be placed to skip the roundabout. I have one in my city, but to prevent the cloggin I put a tram stop in the middle of the roundabout, and connected it with civilian bridges, not alowing crossing in the roundabout. Also, keeping the number of trams as tight as possible helps a lot.

13:55 that happens sometime to me too. Usually when I add road assets that wren't there in a previous save game. Seems that sometimes the game fails to figure out the paths after a road upgrade and vehicles which take the upgraded road simply disappear. Don't know why. you can see that at 22:45 as well, the car that's about to take the upgraded highway simply disappears. and I have the feeling that holds true for all the roads you upgraded in this city. Same thing at 25:30 cars are just disappearing a few nodes before reaching the junction. That's why it's no longer used.

I've had the same problem before, when placing roads and upgrading after some minutes of playing suddenly one of the roads I placed would stop working and from there on, none of the roads I placed or upgraded would work until I reloaded the game. Happened multiple times in the same game too, even after reloading

The same is happening in my cities. I'm wondering if this is some incompatibilty with either the roads or maybe TM:PE. After upgrading or building to the new roads, hundreds of cars are just disappearing and not only that. Seems that these streets are not used at all any more even on central highways... really strange and annoying for me.

Biffa, I don't know if you are seeing it when you do the quick fix for the roundabouts, but when you do that, the default setting is to put in the switching restrictions on every node in the roundabout. You have to change that option when you start/first load the city. Otherwise you end up with the nodes in the roundabout forcing drivers to not be able to switch lanes.

@Biffa Plays Indie Games, I saw a different, more compact, kind of traffic "sponge" that seemed to work quite well. The person used a three lane round-a-bout entering the outside lane, restricting the lane switching to one lane, once each time around, and exiting from the inside lane (so it's basically a one lane, one way street, but three times the distance). Presumably you could do this with five lane road (if you change the speed limit) for five times the distance. Anyways, just thought you might want to give it a try.

I really enjoy seeing bigger cities like this, as I usually aim for at least 200k cities before my development slows down and all the small cities always feel like the traffic is a result of just really poor planning choices, rather than legitimate traffic flow issues.

I think what’s going on at 13:50 is that the one lane road was a highway, and the two lane road isn’t. If that area is affected by the “heavy traffic ban” or the “old town” policy or something similar, then cars that were allowed to break the policy because it’s a highway had to de spawn.

I've had that disappearing traffic before and had no idea why, deleted highway and added a roundabout with several new access points,. Next thing I know everyone was disappearing. Was totally baffled as despawning was off. Meant that all my empty dustbin trucks were disappearing as they were going out into the city. It was a nightmare! Trash build up, sickness, and death wave type of nightmare. It was my first city. It is long lost now.

The traffic problem may have been caused by the different versions of TMPE. I have a 70kish city that I’m struggling to clean up traffic in and I’m in the 60% range. I upgraded TMPE and traffic went all the way down to 15% and population dropped below 50k. The reason was that the new TMPE had deleted all my give ways, junction restrictions and lane managements. Going back and redoing them all brought population back up above 70k and traffic back to 60%

Great as always Biffa and thank you! It would be interesting to see you build a "Vanilla" city with no added assets and no mods that affect the way the game's AI works. (Mods such as TMPE for example. Mods like Move It and Road Anarchy shouldn't affect the way the game runs.) It would be a great resource in teaching others about how to basic city management which would also improve the skills of those who use mods.

Always love your videos Biffa, thanks! (No autocorrect, I did not mean Buffalo 😄) I wonder, is there a way to check how many people walk to where they need to go? I'd love to see you use the inbuilt tool for traffic direction in Teaville to see what routes people are walking/cycling and if you can make is easier for them. I saw an older video the other day again and I love the before/after you did there with full screen switch between before and after instead of two windows you do nowadays. I felt all nostalgic for those, haha!

@13:52 That happened to me in my game the other day. The road used to be a crazy busy entrance to my city, and it went from super clogged and busy to virtually no one using it, and the few who try to use the road get deleted by the game. :(

8:06 the TMPE auto lane arrows made only the center lane on the roundabout usable. The other two are only for turning onto the tram tracks.

18:30 the lane Biffa deleted should be the dedicated left turn lane but the player didn't set up the lane properly resulting in it gets both left & right turn
