Big 12 Insiders | From worst to first - home-field advantages in the Big 12

The Big 12 Insiders is a streaming show hosted by former Kansas State football player Brien "Big B" Hanley. It covers everything related to and affecting the new 16-school Big 12 Conference. In today's edition, Big B and 247Sports site publisher Tim Fitzgerald rank all 16 of the New 12's football stadiums from 16 up to No. 1 based home-field advantage.
The Big 12 Insiders airs Tuesday through Thursday during the summer at 1 p.m. (Central) on the GoPowercat KZbin channel and the new Big 12 Insiders channel.

I’ve been to the 4 PAC schools multiple times each as a visiting fan and I’d rank them as 1. Utah 2. ASU 3. Arizona 4. Colorado Where the last 3 can change based on how good their teams might be, but Utah just had a different level of support than the others.

the smallness of the OSU sidelines is ridiculous (in a good way). Being that close to the visiting team has to add some decibels! BTW, Most Utah fans seem to be pretty excited to go to other stadiums with fans actually in the stands. Playing in front of half empty stadiums at UCLA, USC, Cal, Stanford, etc. kinda sucked. Only Oregon and Washington really had the full game-day feel to it.

BYU and Utah stadiums are at around 5,000 feet elevation, making it a bit more challenging for teams used to playing at lower elevations

Rice-Eccles isn't the largest (52,000) but its definitely one of the loudest....its really a tough place for a visiting team to pull out a victory.

“You imagine” Nippert rocked? It did. Then you mispronounce the name. The stadium is different now than it was in 1997. Nippert isn’t just on campus - it’s in the middle of campus. It’s not surrounded by any parking lots . Fans are on top of the field and the surrounding buildings hold the noise. It’s loud. You guys are lazy.

T Boone Pickens stadium on the Xerox University campus( should be re-named to Copies R Us stadium), since Pistol Pete is a copy of Raider Red; Orange power is a copy of Raider Power; the cowboy-horse rider is a copy of the Masked Rider( the Masked Rider was the first college rider horse mascot in the nation (before USC & Florida state)); the (gun) hand sign was copied from Texas Tech; I am sure their are other traditions at Okie Light (Xerox U) that were copied from Texas Tech!!

Stinks that a home game turns into a neutral site game, but still should be amazing and hopefully count for lots. Some people moaned when the Border War went there for the last couple years before the defection, but I think it’s great. Especially when it puts extra fans in the stands.

The 'Bounce House' nickname is from when UCF fans are jumping up and down, the stadium actually does shake, it's pretty noticeable on TV. Might be a smaller stadium compared to some in the SEC and Big Ten, but it can get pretty loud, and hard for the visiting team to hear.

Many of these venues may be home-field advantages for their team, but there are few really nice venues in Big 12, except for BYU and Utah. Most of the other stadiums are old. Tech is a pretty good place to see a game.

You obviously make ignorant statements without doing any research. Baylor has one of the newest stadiums in all of college football. Boone Pickens did a $260 million upgrade in 2003. Rice-Eccles performed a $10 million upgrade in 1997 (WOW!). Both have performed many renovations and upgrades in the years since. Do better and listen to what is being said before you embarrass yourself again.

Fellas, fellas, fellas… Fellas. I only recently discovered your channel and from the few videos I’ve seen I find them informative, enjoyable, and both of you guys to be highly likable. But you guys really missed the boat on Texas Techand Jones Stadium. Granted I happen to be at Red Raider but the Jones Stadium atmosphere and amenities should put it at the top or very near the top. And after this latest project it will be the premiere stadium in the conference and one of the best in the nation.

Do your homework. Arizona (Tucson) is a college town not urban! The stadium is old and a dump but they won last year. Fans are nasty not just to Sun Devils. Prior years epically bad even for PAC 12 attendance. Colorado being sold out is your metric for down grading teams like Baylor, so I call BS? Give Prime his due. As for playing in the Fiesta Bowl in the 90's ASU being bigger, because it was at 70,000 plus and packed in the Kush and Rogers periods. Went through a total rebuild a few years back and around 60,000 or a little less. I will say this, some of the surrounding areas to vist are boring in the Big 12. Tempe is a nice college town and one of the biggest campuses in the country. Scottsdale is a great area nearby. There is a reason for the Fiesta Bowl. Student section is very good, huge, but you guys have never seen a recent game in Tempe? So wrong, have you been to Provo? Never been to their stadium so just stop! It is loud and tough to play there always. Cold weather- mountians. You are just wrong there. Utah is by far tougher than any school you mentioned. None on this group are as tough. First, the weather is terrible in November since its in the mountains. Every bit as bad as Iowa State or Kansas. Teams like USC, Oregon, and Michigan lose. Hostile students and fans, and its packed in a sold out stadium. Fans compete to raise the noise constanly to serious levels of confusion. MUS, Mighty Utah Student Section, is like a bee hive of jumping and shouting motion. People runup and down wiht flags to cheer it on constantly. It's bad and their fans are abusive. Go and then compare the top? They have won at a higher level for a long time in the MW and PAC 12 to. Utes dominate the local homer sports news in Salt Lake City. I knew you would say this. Big 12 teams are gonna lose there, just like Oklahoma did in Eugene. I like you guys, humble, but the knowledge level is substandard. Should have done this after you have gone to all these new stadiums at the least.

Fun fact, from the out of bounds line to the first row of the stands is 6 yards at BPS, that’s why 50,000 sound like 70 or 80,000

great list guys; the only two stadiums I haven't been to in person are Colorado and West Virginia; I can say W.Va. gets very rowdy, especially at night. Rice-Eccles is one of the best home field advantages in all of college football; which is why I am grateful the first Utah vs. OkState game is in Stillwater. You didn't mention that Houston is undergoing some renovations, that will help their program. I think Kansas' renovations will help them as well.

I was expecting KU to be last. Been listening to too many whiners. I completely agree with virtually all the points made. There are adjustments to be made, but it seems that AD Travis Goff is really working to be creative. One minor tech, it’s 30 minutes from Larryville to kck but probably another 30-ish to the stadium on the far side of kcmo.

Yeah KU may be making the improvements but at this point it’s hardly a good home field advantage. But you’re doing it at Arrowhead so it’s speculation…and you have to realize some other fan bases may travel and therefore impeding the advantage…

Exactly. Arrowhead is 50% larger, so if the team gets off to a hot start and the fans embrace team and location, it could be that much better. TBS, I’m expecting ISU to be a neutral site game, but should still be a great setting. I’m also wondering what it will be like for the team to play on grass instead of AT. The Kelces say it is significantly better, but that might just be old man joints talking.

Is it Home Field Advantage or best atmosphere? You guys kept saying atmosphere instead of the advantage. I would say Morgantown looks like one of the best atmospheres in the Big12 but Rice Eccles is the best home field advantage. Noise, altitude and the team is tough. Not even close.

In 1998 Mountain America Stadium capacity was about 73k. It's about 53k now. ASU fans are not going to pack a stadium for a mediocre product. Dr Crow and the former AD turned off a lot of fans. As Kenny Dillingham gets things rolling. Saturday nights in Tempe will be rocking again.

ASU used to be a great football atmosphere. Pat Tillman, Jake the Snake, Danny White.... some good history. Now Phoenix is where football careers go to die. The local high school kids leave the area to succeed (see Brock Purdy), Cardinals are toxic. Sun Devils are a dumpster fire. Mountain America Stadium is a great place to watch a game, if you are a fan of the visiting team. ASU fans deserve better, but ASU probably won't change.

Worst ranking for nippert. You must not have been to nippert post 2005, crowd is loud and in it, tailgating is good and getting better. Even know its 40k it can sound like 60k+ due to being in a pit. You haven’t done your research and encourage you to do it before making list. I know you have had Chad Brendel on before I’ll donate money for you to do your research and bring in an insider who will learn you to nippert.

@@Big12InsidersI still think your wrong look at their record during the Luke Fickell era look at the crowds during Kelly and jones yes it’s small but it’s better to have a packed 40k stadium than a 50% full 60k stadium you haven’t done your research which upsets me because I love most of your takes. Again get in contact with Chad and let him shine some light. Yes this year may be a down year because of or struggles last year and the uncertainty in our coach but I can promise you nippert is no joke when the team is hot and winning one of the toughest places to play in the country and I’ll put money on it!

The TCU AD didn't ban ticket sales. He did get stupidly petty by requiring _multiple games_ to be purchased (but intelligent people used it to their advantage). Since TCU joined the Big12 in 2012, Tech has won 3 of 6 games at Amon G Carter stadium; all three by _three_ points each. Hardly a "home field" advantage. TCU has won the other three games by 45, 16 and 10 points. Meanwhile, in Lubbock, TTU has won 2 of 6 games, by 10, and 7, while TCU won 4 of 6 by 3, 24, 2, and 19. TCU seems to have an advantage at both fields.
