BYU fan here thanks Drake another great podcast. Honestly we were originally only picked to win four games this year so I’m really happy that we’ve done so well and to see the blue BYU icon ranked ahead of the red Utah icon makes me extremely happy and I’m also a big 12 fan. I love the big 12 it’s so cool to see the Arizona state at the top when they were at the bottom of the beginning. It’s such a cool conference I’m really excited for basketball season. Keep up the good work thanks.

You’re either misunderstanding some things or you just really hate Arizona State. The only way an ASU win over Arizona would not result in a B12 title game appearance is if Colorado, Iowa State, Baylor, Texas Tech and Cincinnati win their last game AND Houston beats BYU. That’s it. You also failed to mention that if all 4 teams tied at 2 conference loses win this weekend.. it’s Arizona State v. Iowa State.

The curse of KU. You return 20 starters from a 9 win team and the stars align for you to make a run, but half of your coaching staff gets poached and it takes half a season for the team to adjust to new schemes and for the QB to knock off the rust. Additionally, you’re told before the season that you have the easiest schedule in the Big XII because you avoid Utah and OSU and a couple others. But then it ends up you have the toughest conference schedule in the league YET AGAIN. I swear, the best hope you have as a fan for your program to turn its’ fortunes around is schedule KU. You will exceed expectations. The football gods have it out for KU.

We were dominated. Texas Tech kept giving us chances to win. We said, "No thank you.". I love my beloved Cyclones, but we've been terrible the 2nd half of the season on both sides of the ball. BYU's downfall is it's inability to show up for a whole game. They have talent, but just can't seem to turn it on consistently.
@RohoSombrero3 күн бұрын
It’s injuries, as it’s been every November (with minor exceptions in fortunate years. ) The reason BYU can’t “show up for a whole game” is because a lot of really good players are on the bench and we still don’t have enough depth. It’s getting better but we aren’t there yet. Obviously the coaches aren’t going to say anything and sound like Utah, but we just need more depth and it takes time. Think about all the injuries though: two linebackers (including our best tackler), at least two interior linemen on both sides, a bunch of receivers, and I’m sure a lot I’ve forgotten. I never understand why the fans don’t get this (many immediately start in on the coaches) but you just don’t lose players and not have it make any difference. We should have another upgrade to our depth again next year.

Drake explained something I’ve always wondered, which is: how does the SEC play non-conference easy games late in the season? Apparently, SEC teams only play 8 conference teams whereas the other power conferences play 9. Did I understand that right? If true, that is unfair to teams in other conferences because the SEC basically gives its best teams another bye week just prior to conference championships or the CFP; therefore, giving its team a chance to heal up injured players and the best chance to win those big end-of-the-season games. Devious. Why doesn’t the Big12 imitate that scheduling?
@dayrider864 күн бұрын

Recency bias creeping in calling ASU a perennial bottom dweller in the PAC12. Those two 3-9 seasons following the Herm Edwards/Ray Anderson train wreck were ASU's worst finishes since World War 2. Massive outliers. In fact, ASU entered the Big 12 with the highest all-time winning percentage out of the 16 current teams in the league. The upswing is way ahead of schedule with what they're doing this year; but a stable ASU program should at least be in the mix in the Big 12 more often than not.
@RohoSombrero3 күн бұрын
Seriously? I don’t remember ASU making a run in the PAC12 ever. If they did it was years ago. The win/loss record over the last century doesn’t really tell us much. Weren’t they in the WAC for decades?
@justinclement27073 күн бұрын
@RohoSombrero The Arizona schools moved up from the WAC to the PAC 10 in 1978. ASU went on to win 3 PAC 10 titles: -1986: beat Jim Harbaugh's Michigan in the Rose Bowl -1996: led by Jake Plummer & Pat Tillman, narrowly missed out on a national title falling to Ohio St in the final minute of the Rose Bowl -2007: *shared with USC. They also won the PAC 12 South division title in 2013 and had numerous other seasons where they were solidly in contention late into the season. In ASU's 45 non-COVID seasons in the PAC 10/12 they posted the following splits: 10+ wins: 13% 8-9 wins: 20% 6-7 wins: 42% 4-5 wins: 18% 3 wins: 7% I'm not saying ASU is a powerhouse, but they have clearly not been a bottom-dweller either. And in a league with no clear-cut football powerhouses, they should have as good of a shot as anyone to be in the mix in the Big 12 with decent regularity.

Tech fan: I think if you undo the total fumbling of a final stretch that was the TCU game and we end with nine wins then I would definitely call it a success. I think last season The expectation was eight wins and it fell short due to horrible WR and OL play. This year the defense is substantially worse but we got an increase in talent at the wide receiver position. We're going to need some personnel change if we want to take the next step next season.

Looking at what is best for the conference on the whole we need Kansas to beat Baylor and Cincinnati to beat TCU giving us 11 bowl teams (up 2 from 2023) Yes for the good of the conference Drake needs to root for Baylor to lose. 7-5 is an improvement for them and 8-5 if they win is respectable. Kansas being 7-6 is also a positive going into next season.

@TheChipilicious you must be very young or just don't pay attention. A little recap. 1982- #6 ASU was 9-1 and UofA was 5-4-1. ASU Heavy favorites and going to rose bowl with a win. UofA won 28-18. No rose bowl. 1986- #4 ASU 9-0-1 vs #14 UofA 7-2 and faves and UofA wins 34-17 and knocks ASU out of Rose. 1997- year after our 96 season, #17 ASU 8-2 vs UofA 5-5 and UofA wins 28-16. 2004- #18 ASU 8-2 vs 2-8 UofA and we were like 23 point favorites. UofA won 34-27 with ASU having 5 turnovers. I mean, those are just the simple ones where we were heavl favorites. We're only -9 point favorites this time. Don't get me wrong, we should win easy. But any ASU fan that actually pays attention and isn't a bandwagon fan knows history. Which tells me which group you fall into if you don't know our history.

The Big XII suffers from the issue it’s suffered for a long time. No elite teams. They don’t have as much talent at the top as other teams. But the bottom teams are better than other conferences. There’s so much parity. Kansas and Colorado though are the only two teams from the Big XII that I think would have a chance to be competitive in the playoffs. Colorado because of their skill position players, and Kansas because of their OL and run game. Those elite teams dominate the trenches, and Kansas has an OL that might actually be able to hold their own in the trenches and Sanders/Hunter are a combo that can ruin somebody’s day any given day. ASU I just don’t think has the power in the trenches and KState while a formidable team, they don’t have the strength in the trenches they normally do. They’re doing it with good coaching and schemes, but when somebody comes with a good gameplan, they struggle.
