Texas fan here and I don't trust Sark yet either. The good thing is that I don't worry about showing up for the big games (except the RRS last year when we apparently took OU too lightly bc of the previous year). But it seems we do have to worry about focus against the under the radar teams. However, Texas' struggle to pull away from MSU had nothing to do with their SEC talent or physicality. I strongly disagree that the SEC is that dramatic of a step up from the Big 12 outside of the top tier of the conference, and we only play one top tier SEC team this year. Who are these super scary 2nd tier and lower SEC teams currently? Kentucky looks like a tough, scrappy team, but the Big 12 has its own Kentucky that it calls Iowa State. A&M and Mizzou are winning at pretty much the exact same rates they were in the Big 12, and both Okie State and KSU have been on par or better programs most years. Save this talking point for when Texas' schedule has multiple top tier SEC teams on it.

So far Sark is looking great. He is recruiting like a big dog and next year's team already looks better than this year's team (which is #1). The Big 10 had the best defenses last year by a landslide. Michigan, Penn State, Iowa and Ohio State were 4 of the top 5 defenses in the country. But the SEC is clearly the better top to bottom conference. They have 7 or 8 teams that could honestly make the college football playoffs and the Big 10 has 4. They would have 5 but Riley has to prove it at USC.

I don't understand the argument about USC having 10 wins during Riley's first year with only 2 NFL players. By that standard, all the other PAC teams had 0 NFL players. And these guys claiming that USC had 0 NFL players on that team last year is about as far from the truth as you can get. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Caleb Williams on that SC team last year? USC also went out and got a lot of future NFL talents via the portal last year. The truth is....Riley cannot win against any team with equal or just a little bit less talent. He's proven that throughout his entire career. That's why he made a beeline for the PAC as soon as he found out that Oklahoma would be joining the SEC. Get mad all you want SC fans, but that's the truth.
@TheLAGopher3 ай бұрын
Oregon and Utah were the class of the PAC when Riley joined USC. Its not like he wouldn't have any competition. Why isn't it possible tht Riley came to USC because it's a blue blood program,in Los Angeles,that has a well heeled booster network?
@chewbaka14963 ай бұрын
@TheLAGopher Blue blood roughly two decades ago has zero impact on the present. Especially when Oklahoma had been way more relevant than USC during those span of time. Once he found out that Oklahoma would be joining the SEC, Riley high-tailed to a less competitive conference, that's all.

When you only have one team in the playoff from each you really don't answer much year to year. However, once you start putting possibly 4 teams in each conf in the playoff the talking is over and we start seeing on a regular basis who is beating who. Also, to McElroy's comments, I know there is a lot of passion for in the SEC markets. However, there is a reason the B1G gets such a huge TV deal is that 20% of Ohio is worth more than 100% of Alabama. Even people who are in business on a national basis in Alabama are likely to acknowledge that.
