Big 12 RUMORS For Adding FSU & Clemson: Proceed With Caution | More Physical ACC In 2024

Rumors about Florida State and Clemson leaving the ACC for the Big 12 continue to gain steam. While there is little doubt that the Big 12 has made overtures to the pair, it’s important to remember that they would likely be a third choice landing spot for FSU and Clemson after the Big Ten or SEC. Ross Dellenger, who started the buzz with comments made at Big 12 media days, added the context that he was just hypothesizing. That hasn’t stopped aggregators from taking his comments and running with them. So, are we buying the rumors?

Uh, Kenton, the Big 12 had a different commissioner when TX/OU left and he wasn't pursuing private equity. They have a new commissioner now who is pursuing PE. Selling the Big 12 naming rights was an option 30 years ago. The big difference is that this commissioner wants to do it and the previous did not. And the SEC is not the richest conference in payouts. The SEC paid out $51 million last year while the B1G paid out $60 million each. You can't ask why didn't something happen in the past when things are radically different in the present. This is when you lose a lot of people with your takes because you're playing fast and loose with the facts. We get that you're adamant that there's this "process" in which things must happen for FSU and Clemson to leave. We're in uncharted territory in college sports so I hope you can also keep an open mind.

Lest not forget UT was allowed the Longhorn Network and uneven revenue sharing. Is B12 really going to repeat those mistakes again? I like how the ACC is moving to a performance based model. Just wish they had some more resources for the base payouts.

@@toast803 According to Big 12 talking heads, yes, they're willing to go to unequal revenue sharing to bring on FSU and Clemson even if it's temporary. They can either get a little more of something temporarily or all of nothing forever.

The big 12 didn't acquire its current resources and its promising resources until after OU and Texas inked the deal. Before you are 100% certain that the big 12 isn't the landing spot realize that the SEC already has a footprint in those 2 states (but still might take them) and realize that for the past 34 years and 8 schools worth of expansion the big 10 has only taken AAU schools. Don't get on the big 12's case because Clemson and Florida State seemingly did not think this through

@@elvangulley3210 Clearly you did not read the part about the AAU in my original post. I'm not bad mouthing Florida state and Clemson but the history is what the history is. The AAU is 8-0 since 1990 with Big 10 expansion. Anything is possible but common sense says don't hold your breath on the Big 10 for Clemson and FSU. The Big 10 wants Notre Dame which probably isn't happening. Rumors are they also want Texas A&M but they'd probably need some other school. Like Miami if available.

Private equity is not a loan. If an organization wants to borrow money, they can sell bonds (IOUs) Private equity means you sell off an ownership stake for cash- the private equity firm now owns shares and has a say in how you run things. The problem is most Universities and Collages do not operate on the profit model, and therefore they (and the football fans) don't realize all that money has to come from somewhere (check all the clickbait videos stating how much team x will get it they move to the Big10/SEC/Big12) and they think private equity, ESPN/FOX are all ATMS with unlimited cash withdrawals. Kenton, the college football revenue model is already unsustainable, and the fall off the cliff will come when ESPN, FOX, CBS, NBC can no longer sustain the payouts. Then the colleges will get buyers' remorse over the huge stadium expansions, Taj Mahal Facilities, 5star resort dorms and training facilities for athletes and all the Lazy Rivers. FASTER PLEASE

Anyone ever heard of Low-Profit Limited Liability Companies (L3C) used to help charitable organizations through investment? I recommend you look it up. I also recommend you look at Master Limited Partnerships. These are partnerships that are publicly traded and mostly associated with mining and oil drilling production. But, these publicly-traded entities can also offer value for L3Cs on the public stock exchanges.

Yormark is the difference! PE has been involved in other sports for a long time. PE is an investment in the conference. TV deals for any conference could shrink at any renegotiation… Nobody said they would make Clemson and Florida St the richest in the land or whatever. Most B12 fans don’t even think these teams are coming. Other teams from the ACC may end up in the B12 though!

Private equity absolutely was in play years ago. With the Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott was offered a private equity deal ultimately the conference turned it down.

It does not matter what people buy until it happens. All we are doing is waiting to see if the ink hits the contract and announcements to be made or not. Could it happen? Sure, there is always a level of probability to it. Has Brett Yormark gotten his way before now? I think there is a track record to answer that question. My point is...we will see whether the FSU and Clemson thing happens for the Big 12 or not!

ESPN & Disney are not going to renew their contract with the ACC after 2026-2027 season. The ACC IS DEAD 💀. The Tv 📺 networks will decide who gets a landing spot. In the Big 12, SEC or Big 10. There will only be 3 Power Conferences after 2027🏈

The B1G is going to add ND and Stanford for 20 teams total. Even if the B1G were to expand to 22 schools, no AAU accreditation means no offer. And the SEC, in order to financially compete against the B1G will need to add more large TV markets, which means UNC, UVA, Miami, Arizona, Colorado and even BC are better fits. If Clemson and FSU win their court cases, the ACC will collapse and will be poached leaving Clemson and FSU to either become independent, or stay in the P3 by joining the Big 12.

Since the portal changes and NIL, the ACC as a whole has started to diminish against the Big 12. In the last 5 years, the Big 12 has more ncaa basketball titles than the ACC and more overall tournament bids. The big 12 is winning head to head matchups against the ACC in football 10-6, and the Big 12 over the last 5 years has a better win to loss ratio in bowl games over the ACC. ACC is 21-28, Big 12 is 22-13. Played in less bowls and still have more wins. The Big 12 also went 38-31 vs. all other P5 conferences combined in head to head matchups over the last 5 years. The Big 12 has better leadership and with the 4 corner schools, I expect us to continue to be better than the ACC moving forward. ACC fans need to wake up.

Big 12 fans always against the acc, like the sec and big10 their afraid of. What did the acc do so bad that big 12 fans are always talking down to the acc. Are you worried about the money the sec and big10 get that you respect them that much. Bottom line acc and big12 are both financially way behind the sec and big10. Big 12 lost Oklahoma and Texas and the acc will loose fs and Clemson. College football is college football. Winning is the difference, and what build a conference. Every team play 1 game a weekend. However there are many other games on from many g5 and below that we watch. But best believe if the acc is playing that who I'm watching. I'm pretty sure the big12 who you will watch. I don't give a rats s about the big10, sec or big 12. Im, a UNC fan but I will watch BC and Wake Forest over Georgia Bama.
