HYYH was traumatic for a lot of ARMYs. The story itself was bittersweet and a lot of us related to it somehow. It was a genius move on BTS and Big Hit’s part, because kpop doesn’t tend to tap into emotional subjects the way BTS do. But even with that emotional impact, the musical impact, the system screwed them over and continues to do the same for artists from smaller companies. It’s why so many groups disband so early into their careers. BTS and ARMYs got very very lucky in that industry. Very lucky. It’s why we work so hard every time there’s a release or something. Because we can’t ever rest on our laurels. It’s an uphill battle.

And the sweetest thing is that we ARMY has always been there with all the trials & tribulations they went through. Their love & commitment to us and our forever love for them has made them who they are now and we as ARMY will be here FOREVER for them! GRATEFUL AND BLESSED BTS & ARMY!

FYI. Even Bang PD cried after watching INU MV at first time. If INU failed, they were desperate for first place because they could no longer maintain group activities. Idol groups that don't win first place in music shows are less likely to succeed as time goes by, so this INU's success was very important because of the problem of capital. Why this video started the intro with a description of half-famous idol group.

Someone said this already, but just reiterating...EXID was NOT part of BIG 3. Big Three privilege was real, but just like was said in the video, that doesn't mean the idols under those companies did not also work hard. They just saw more results for their efforts. Don't forget it's best to place blame on the systems, rather than tearing down individuals or groups who have no choice but to be a part of them. It was a once in a lifetime event that Bangtan was able to break through this monopoly, basically a miracle, fueled by their music, messages, and fans.

The never once said anything bad about EXID. He specifically said he was NOT doing that. He was complaining about the system and thats it. Even if he got the details wrong, he thought EXID was from the Big 3 it was not a slight to them as a group.
@kerryrg8816
@kerryrg8816 Жыл бұрын
@@Boraheartsss i understand that. i just wanted to clarify that Big Three privilege is shown in the exposure they can get for their groups (re: money they can sink into them). Yes, this leads to media manipulation and favoritism by networks, and the artists often benefit, but it shouldn't denigrate their work. There is a common misconception, especially among those who only follow one group, that the groups from Big 3 automatically are less deserving of their success, when it's so much more nuanced than that. I just want to shed light on that point. I also think that the statements made towards EXID were said in poor taste with a sentiment of "if they belong to Big 3, their win is less valuable." BTS does not exist in a vacuum; their story and success happened within and because of the kpop culture they grew up in. It's important to have an understanding of that culture, just like it's important to understand the past and present of western music to fully appreciate it. EXID"s story is fascinating and informative. In fact it totally speaks to the overwhelming power of fandom. Something I think BTS would know a little bit about.
@izzy523
@izzy523 11 ай бұрын
@@Boraheartsss They lowkey did though. Comparing EXID's song to BTS' and implying that they didn't deserve the win because of it? I like these guys but they shouldn't have mentioned EXID when they don't know the girls, their songs, or their history. Intentional or not, their comments come off as shade.

BTS and BigHit were literally nothing in the eyes of the South Korean idol music industry. BTS had no seniors to rely on for guidance or support and BigHit barely had any money. The company almost went bankrupt due to BigHit not having a lot of artists, due to how small and unknown they were, and because a previous artist they had got into a scandal this meant BigHit reputation went down, so no one wanted to go to them, so BigHit had even less trainees coming in, so less of a chance of creating more artists, you get the endless circle. Anyway, due to BigHit having no money that meant for BTS their training area was so small, BTS’ practice room mirror got fogged up from the member’s breathing and they had to wipe it up with newspaper, and due to the company building being small and in a bad neighborhood, the rooms with the equipment and dance training for BTS regularly got flooded, so BTS had to always scoop out water with buckets. BTS put any extra money they made towards their music videos, art, etc. hence why out of all the other small groups at the time, theirs had the video quality that rivaled those from richer and more well-known companies, but it is also why they didn’t have a lot of money for food. BigHit had no chance of becoming big, BTS had no chance of becoming big, or at least not compared to groups from the Big Three. The Big Three had so much money and influence from their name alone, that they had the media, tv channels, and other idol structure entities on their side. Therefore The Big Three could get their artists tons of media coverage and get their artists name out there and make people know who their artists are. And they had enough influence to keep it that way, just on them and their artists. The only people BTS had to support them, and the people which got BTS to where they are today, is ARMY, BigHit, and BTS themselves. Regarding Bang PD, is a MUSICIAN first and foremost, turned businessman. He didn’t start this business with business, money-making, and being in the favor of the government in mind, as most other idol companies did. He ran this business with making great music and caring for his artists and helping those who listen to BTS’ music in mind. THAT is the big difference between Bang PD and BigHit from all these other idol music companies, and it is VITAL to how BTS became so different from other idols since the beginning. This win for I Need U was the first step in BTS’ journey of demolishing the encroaching power and stronghold the Big Three had in idol music, and many people, fans of Big Three groups and Big Three company officials alike, did NOT LIKE IT. So you’ll see from here on out a rise in attacks on the BTS members, both professionally from corporate entities and media entities (since the companies had so much power over the media), and personally from fans of Big Three groups. The only people BTS had to support them, and the people which got BTS to where they are today, is BTS themselves, BigHit, and ARMY, no one else. I guess that’s why I get so annoyed with the statement that BTS benefited from Kpop’s success or when BTS is attached to the Kpop/idol music label, because it’s false. They hardly operated with common idol practices, such as being on tons of variety shows, being in lots of commercials, getting lots of screen time through television with performances or entertainment, etc. They COULDN’T, they were too small of a group at the time and from too small of a company to have influence over media at all. So through social media, blogs, vlogs, KZbin, BigHit hiring people who already have good groundwork for musical growth, booking BTS in whatever venue they could get, wherever, BTS and BigHit did everything they could, used whatever practices they had available to them, to have the ability to ACTUALLY participate in competition, and more importantly, to get known and have an actual audience to sing to!! That is why it’s such a frustration when people put BTS and Idol music together, or call BTS a Kpop group, because BTS never formed under the idol umbrella. Since the beginning BTS have been operating in OPPOSITION to the common idol practices of the idol music system. From the beginning they had social media presence, artistic freedom, and human connection between artist, label, fan. Through fair and caring management practices from the company, social media presence, and artistic creativity and freedom, BTS were operating outside of the idol music system!! BTS was operating OUTSIDE of it!! All of those things BigHit and BTS did, other idol groups and their companies did not do plenty of at all. BigHit and BTS did, and therefore because of operating outside of that common idol industry structure, and succeeding, BTS have benefited greatly due to using these different methods and idol practices, and yet have also gone through so much pain from others due to it. However, BTS also experienced beauty and love and freedom of expression through music and sharing it with other people that many others in bigger companies didn’t at the time. It is why they deserve so much more than the the idol music (Kpop) label put on them, because they are so much more than what the idol music industry gave to them, which is nothing. The only people BTS had to support them, and the people which got BTS to where they are today, is ARMY, BigHit, and BTS themselves, no one else. That is why BTS is so big. Their label, BigHit and CEO, Bang PD, formed BigHit and BTS in rebellion to the unfair practice of the idol music industry. In doing so, he made BTS stand out and become who they are today. That is why it’s such a frustration when people put BTS and Idol music together, because BTS never formed or operated under the idol umbrella. Because of operating outside of it, and therefore succeeding, BTS and BigHit have set a precedent for other companies to follow if they choose to, and therefore improve the lives and working conditions of idols all across the board. It is utterly astounding, astounding, and moving to realize how much improvement and good they have left for idols artists in South Korea in their wake. Bang PD and BigHit deserves so much respect. They helped give the ability for BTS to do all that they have done.

Agreed. And what is even more frustrating at the end of the day is that now most of the other companies and artists are trying to do what BigHit and BTS did by using social media. And it's interesting how other artists vlogs or behind the scenes feel scripted whereas BTS' were raw and natural. So while they are trying to copy BTS' road to success they still don't understand the nature of that success.

@@cnot4948 I’m not trying to deny their impact at all, I genuinely respect bts for everything that they’ve built till now. But things like videos in a vlog format and behind the scenes has been a big thing in the industry for a while. Especially cause Korea is a country that loves things like variety shows, idols involve similar things in their own way. I Have been into following the industry for a long time now and it’s up to you what you see, but those times are when you genuinely see idols enjoying each other as a group.

I Need U is so relatable on so many levels. That one song talks about abuse, depression, anxiety, feeling lost, confused & hurt. It's very overwhelming and therefore, one of my favorites. Every time I watch it, I still get chills when V stabs the man. But Nico is correct about how BTS had to go through it to be where they are today and knowing about their hardships on this journey makes us, ARMY, love, respect and admire them even more. L💜

Fun fact: the word "Girl" is actually old English; originally spelled "Gurle" or "Gerl" and it was a tern used to refer to a young person regardless of gender. It wasn't until the 14th century that the spelling was changed to "Girl" and was used to refer specifically to a young female or woman. RM stated that he replaced the word friend in the song "I Need You" with girl simply because it flowed better and sounded less awkward! Great to see you guys again! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🐳♾

I have been a k-pop stan for a long time, some of my stans are in the big three in this video but they do not make me feel like BTS does. All I do was listen to their music over the years. What I like about BTS is they deliver what they preached. You can see this in their performances. Each performance is always different and you can see that they work hard to improve themselves as an artist and also as human being. When they promised something to the ARMY they stay true to their words and deliver it promptly. Genuine, humble, and many more are what I admired about the guys. As a mother of 5 and a grandmother, this is the value I want to instill in my children and grandchildren. I have been with BTS since their debut time and have seen them grow, in a way it is like watching my children grow up cause they are the same age as my children. Thank you guys for the reaction, you guys are amazing and now I told my children I called you guys the Amazing three.

And add to that, to understand why big3 is that popular and influential you need to know this, because they not only have idols,they have writers/producers(for the tv shows), comedians(who host the shows),actors and make their own drama and program. For example if the company make dramas and tv shows ,they put their own MC to host the show,and call their own idols for guest, that is how they can get the generous promotions . To win the weekly music show win, every singers have to promote on tv shows to get "broadcasting score" And you can tell the idols of big comanies mostly treated well bcz they are all connected to the same company. When bts "had the opportunity to go on those tv shows" they were asked if they plagiarize other idols(who were the same company as the MC of the show), and even when bts won daesang and became the big thing in Korea, Korean radio pds gathered and did the podcast and giggled how bts' manager once literally kneeled down and begged to get bts on the shows and now they become this big is interesting...even though bts got this big, those PDs couldnt approve their success.. and it keeps going even by now and bts' daesangs are ripped off by other big3 compnay even though bts is getting the highest score

Re the buyback of their albums: what the instigators of that rumor carefully omitted was that Big Hit was not in a financial position to make the necessary purchases. Only a company that was making millions of won could *spend* millions of won to purchase back their own music and artificially inflate their chart rank. That point was raised repeatedly by fans, and was repeatedly blown off by hostile fandoms and indifferent media, who were much more about the scandal and knew who was buttering their bread. I think it's another of those Big Three Privileges, having a media that's sympathetic to you and hostile to your rivals... a situation that continues today. K-media is, by and large, unfriendly to BTS and likes to downplay and negatively report on them whenever they can't ignore them.

This is so frustrating, and it's no less so because it's commonplace. If anything, that makes it worse. And Blaze it right - it's in every aspect of the business of creation and entertainment. I'm an author, and before I was finally published, I was turned down multiple times by agents and publishers because what I was writing "would offend" certain big-name writers because "it's too good and it will challenge them too much". They always said my work was good, but that because of that, it would be buried. And it was. Even now, there are big name writers with aggressive fans, and the nonsense continues. I'm not comparing myself to the guys, not at all. I'm just saying that I understand. It's a credit to BTS that they never let themselves be bitter in response to this sort of unfairness, and that they never gave up and walked away because it was too hard. The temptation to abandon hope is strong, and it's because they had ARMY and each other that they were able to continue... and I will always be grateful to them for that.

this might be my favourite RoB episode ever. the narrative style is perfect for telling the story of what went down in 2015 and essentially birthed the BTS we know today: widely loved, widely hated, but resilient and humble either way; more emotionally open; more involved in the creation of their art; more fully committed to the team with their new look, sound, approach, concepts, opinions, and achievements, it's almost as if they debuted for a second time!

Thank you for talking about the different range of emotions experienced while validating it too when watching BTS's I Need U 18+ MV, you are right that people can relate to situations that the MV portrayed on many different levels as well as the music, Nico it's much appreciated 👍 I was in a similar situation a couple of times a few years before this MV was released but by sheer luck I chose not to do so yet it took me back to those very moments instantly. It kinda made me realize that despite the resentment and multi layered emotions I felt at the time I was happy and proud with myself for not following through with any of it which lightened my heart even if it was for a brief moment as I would of struggled even more with the consequences of the alternative 😌

What was so crazy about them being accused of faking their sales, was the company had no money to do that, they almost disbanded because they were a small company, running out of money. So it was a slap in the face, but the joke was on them, because that made ARMY go even harder.

Your reaction to I Need U was different because you were watching it many years later in a landscape where BTS were in a completely different position. Most of those people crying/reacting are reactions from that time. They were fans, knew them, knew kpop, and suddenly this video dropped. The impact it had I can only imagine, but it had to be shocking for many reasons (a story driven MV, no dancing, the subject, the violence, etc, completely anti-kpop). This is also highlighted by your expectation that that was BTS's 1st win, because you know the story, and you know they made it. But fans at the time were fighting hard to get them those wins. Please be aware of this difference in perspective (which is the point of this documentary I suppose).

Exid wasn't a big 3 group, their song was a bop, kpop industry is really competitive, even Exo and Big Bang lost against those girls, that's why we gotta appreciate bangtan's first win, because it's really difficult to achieve that, the industry is full of beautiful and talented people.

It think the reason why they have become successful is that, in their beginnings, if you are an ARMY, you get shamed by other fandom. BTS are aware of that. They used to say frequently, we will work hard that you will become proud that you are an army. With that goal, they pushed their limit in producing quality products may it be an album, mv etc

rant ahead... Some new kpop fans, or mainly armys hate on 2nd gen groups, and I don't understand that. I think they're mostly fake fans trying to stir drama, but aside from that, they say that bts paved the way and 2nd gen groups did nothing for groups like bts. Yeah, they did nothing for groups like bts and neither did bts. As someone who was deep into kpop way before bts came, 2nd gen groups did nothing to help or ruin bts, they just existed. Companies did, and most of the time it wasn't personal, they were just this new kpop group from this small company, like 100+ other groups at that time. The big 3 privilege exists, we can argue how fair it is, but that's how all industries work, and at that time the big 3 were like ivy leagues, you would want to get your money's worth if you manage to get into one. 2nd gen groups liked bts, and bts respected them. A lot of fans at that time tried to start unnecessary drama (with bigbang, and famously with exo). And to say that 2nd gen groups didn't do anything for kpop... man you just have to be delusional at this point. If they didn't, then a small broke ass company like bighit wouldn't see the profit and spending money to train and debut bts. What bts is did is, they did not change kpop, they used what was there and was already working and added sincerity and their personal stories to it. I remember when No more dream dropped, I was stunned, because I felt like they were directly talking to me and about me, plus they were around my age so I felt connected to them. As I got more into them (watching rookie king and their logs) I told my younger sister "They will be bigger than bigbang". That was my way of saying they'll be legends and succeed big, as bigbang were my favorites and kings of kpop at that time. Even though they were dirt poor and barely got any air time, I knew they would touch fans' heart. So when I said earlier that "neither did bts", I didn't mean that they didn't impact kpop, but still now so many groups debut and so many of then disband within a year. No group can change the industry because it is heavily based on profit. Bts found a way to survive without losing their autheticity and without having those privileges, and I'm so proud of them for that. And, I think fans noticed the "unfair" treatment that bts got mainly because they had a company that backed them up, and didn't settle for anything below what they deserved (bighit be petty af and I love it😂😂, gayo daejaejun perf anyone ?). anyway, I wrote too much, but this has been bottled up for a while now 🥲🥲. If you read this far, wow !! what do u think ?
